Larry Fitzgerald isn’t officially retired from the NFL. But that might be just a formality as the Arizona Cardinals legendary wideout isn’t itching to get back to the field again.

Fitzgerald made this revelation during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s weekly radio show Let’s Go, which he hosts with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and sportscaster Jim Gray.

“For now, I’ll be a radio broadcaster,” said Fitzgerald when asked whether he would rather do radio or play in NFL. “To be honest with you, I just don’t have the urge to play right now.”

Fitzgerald did leave the door open for a potential change of heart, however.

“I don’t know how I’ll feel in September, October, November moving forward, but I just, today, I just don’t have the urge,” he added.

Larry Fitzgerald spent 17 years in the NFL, playing his entire career with the Arizona Cardinals and earning 11 Pro Bowl nods. He has 1,432 career receptions and 17,492 receiving yards, second only to Jerry Rice on the all-time list. Fitzgerald’s 121 receiving touchdowns are the sixth most in NFL history.

Fitzgerald is currently an unrestricted free agent after his contract with the Cardinals expired following the 2020 NFL season. Arizona previously indicated that they would love to have him back for one more year if he decides to do so.

Arizona Cardinals’ iconic wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald continues to make history. In Sunday’s 27-10 home defeat to Seattle Seahawks, Fitzgerald caught five passes which propelled him to the second place on NFL’s all-time reception list.

Fitzgerald entered the game sitting on the third spot with 1,321 receptions behind Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzales with 1,325 caught passes. He managed to get the five receptions he needed, with the last one coming less than two minutes left in the game on a 15-yard pass by Kyler Murray.

In order to get to the first place of NFL’s all-time reception list, Larry Fitzgerald would need to top the legendary San Francisco 49ers’ WR Jerry Rice who is at the top with 1,549 receptions. Fitzgerald is also second to Rice in all-time receiving yards, 16,579 compared to 22,895.

Despite this remarkable achievement, Fitzgerald downplayed the feat and was more focused on the outcome after the game.

“I don’t mean any disrespect to guys on the all-time list but it’s hard to take anything good from losing two in a row at home, three home games out of four, and we don’t come out with a win,” – said Fitzgerald. “That’s pretty depressing, so there’s not much to really be happy about.”

Cardinals find themselves in a tough spot following the first four weeks having 0-3-1 record. They will have the opportunity to get their first win next Sunday, when they face also winless Cincinnati Bengals.
