Following wideout Chad Beebe’s ankle injury, that will sideline him for several weeks, Minnesota Vikings decided to bring a familiar face. According to several sources, including ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, Vikings signed wide receiver Laquon Treadwell on Tuesday to fill in for Beebe.

With Beebe out, Vikings were left with only three WRs on their roster, so Treadwell will provide them badly needed depth.

Laquon Treadwell was Vikings first-round pick in 2016, but he never managed to meet the expectations in the pros. During his three years with the franchise, he only had 40 catches for 395 yards and one touchdown.

Treadwell’s struggles caused Minnesota to release him during the offseason, despite the fact that his 2019 salary was guaranteed. By bringing him back now, they will at least get some value out of their money.

Considering the fact that Vikings heavily rely on Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs as their first choice on wideout positions, Treadwell isn’t expected to make a significant contribution. Beebe, who was third on Minnesota’s WR depth chart, only had two receptions in the previous three games. It also doesn’t help that the Vikings heavily rely on the running game, and have thrown the fewest passes in the NFL so far.

Minnesota Vikings are finally giving up on wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, who was their first-round pick in 2016. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Vikings have made Treadwell available in trade talks and are actively shopping him around the league.

This is an expected turn of events, as Treadwell is considered to be Vikings’ fifth option on WR position. This significantly lowers his chances to make the roster, so Minnesota is trying to get something for the 24-year-old instead of releasing him outright.

There is no indication t how much teams would be willing to give up for Treadwell, but the Vikings are hoping they could get a fifth-rounder from someone. The fact that the player only carries a $1.8 million cap hit in 2019 might help them to achieve this.

After an electric junior season with Ole Miss, in which he had 82 receptions for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns, Laquon Treadwell entered the 2016 NFL Draft ranked as the second-best receiver in his class. Minnesota Vikings ended up drafting Treadwell 23rd overall with the intention of making him their WR of the future.

Treadwell, however, never managed to justify the high expectation in the pros as he made only one reception for 15 yards in his rookie season. Things didn’t turn for better in the next two years, as he struggled when given the opportunity.

In three years with the Vikings, Treadwell caught 56 passes for 517 yards and a touchdown.
