The Baltimore Ravens quarterback was unveiled as the recipient of the NFL Most Valuable Player award for the 2023 season. This is the second time in his career that Jackson has taken home the MVP honors.

Jackson missed out on unanimous selection by a single vote. He received 49 out of 50 first-place votes and had a total of 493 points. The lone remaining first-place vote went to Buffalo Bills’ signal-caller Josh Allen. Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott finished second in the voting with 152 points, while San Francisco 49ers’ running back Christian McCaffrey finished third with 147 points.

Jackson is now the youngest two-time MVP in NFL history, surpassing Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. He received his first MVP nod in 2019.

Jackson compiled his best career as a passer in 2023, completing 67.2% of his passes while throwing for 3,678 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 821 yards and five TDs on the ground while leading the Ravens to a league-best 13-4 record.

While taking the stage to receive the award, Jackson made sure to thank the Ravens’ for signing him to a new contract in the offseason.

“I want to thank my organization, the Baltimore Ravens, for finally getting the deal done,” said Jackson. “My offense [and] offensive line, I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done. I’m not out there blocking and catching the ball and doing everything. It’s a team thing for these awards.”

Expect the Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to throw the ball in 2023 much more frequently compared to the season prior. Speaking with the media over the weekend, Jackson said that he wants to throw for 6,000 yards this year and believes the Ravens have weapons on offense to achieve this.

The Ravens’ passing game has been one of the worst in the league in the past seasons. This was a result of several factors, including the Ravens’ reliance on the running game due to Jackson’s unique skills and lack of proven options at the wide receiver position.

Things should be different in 2023, as Jackson will have a more passing-friendly offensive coordinator in Todd Monken and a stacked wideout room at his disposal. The Ravens revamped their receiving core this offseason, adding Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. and veteran Nelson Agholor in free agency before drafting Boston’s Zay Flowers in the first round of this year’s draft.

“I want to throw for like 6,000 yards with the weapons we have,” Jackson told reporters. “I’m not an individual award-type guy or a stat watcher. I just want to do that because no one has ever done it, and I feel like we have the weapons to do it.”

Of course, Lamar Jackson would have a monstrous task ahead of him if he actually wanted to achieve this. Even with one extra game added to the schedule, he would have to average 353 passing yards per game to reach the mark. Jackson never threw for more than 3,127 yards in a single season, and his highest average was 240.2 passing yards per game in 2021.

Lamar Jackson will stay a Raven, after all. After a months-long saga, which included failed negotiations, a franchise tag, and a trade request, Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a five-year contract.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth $260 million and comes with $185 million in guaranteed money. It makes Jackson the highest-paid player in NFL history in terms of annual salary at $52 million per year.

Jackson’s new contract was a long time in the making. The two sides failed to agree to an extension before the 2022 NFL season started, setting up the former NFL MVP to become a free agent this offseason. The main issue, according to reports, was that Jackson wanted a fully guaranteed deal that would match the one Deshaun Watson got from the Cleveland Browns (five years, $230 million).

The Ravens were not ready to give Jackson that type of deal and ended up placing a non-exclusive franchise tag on him. This move allowed the player to negotiate with other teams while giving Baltimore a chance to match any deal he signed. Not long after being tagged, Jackson revealed that he requested a trade.

However, Jackson failed to have the market that he expected, largely because most NFL teams didn’t want to go through the trouble of negotiating the deal only to see the Ravens match it. There were also concerns about the 26-year-olds durability, considering his past two seasons ended prematurely due to injuries.

It turned out that both the Ravens and Jackson were each other’s best option, which was the thing that probably prompted both sides to make some compromises and get a new deal done.

“I feel that way sometimes with family; things can get tough … and there was definitely some emotion,” said Ravens’ general manager Eric DeCosta. “But in the end, we’ve been blessed to have Lamar as part of this organization for a long time. I think he feels this place is special, too. And it was business; it wasn’t personal.”

It seems as though the Baltimore Ravens are facing an uphill battle to keep their star quarterback Lamar Jackson. In a letter to fans posted on Twitter, Jackson revealed that he wanted to leave the Ravens and has submitted a trade request in early March.

“As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens have not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the super bowl, “Jackson wrote.

Jackson added that the Ravens fans are “great,” but that he needed to “make a business decision that was best for my family and I.”

After learning about Jackson’s tweet, Baltimore’s head coach John Harbaugh told the reporters that he still believes the two sides will come to a resolution and that the former MVP will be the Ravens’ starting quarterback in 2023.

“I’m pretty fired up about Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson is a great player. Lamar came back in great shape last year. He’s fired up to play. That’s the Lamar that I’m looking forward to seeing,” said Harbaugh.

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have been engaged in a contract standoff for a couple of seasons now. Reportedly, the player wants a fully guaranteed deal, while the Ravens made it clear they are not even thinking about giving him one. This resulted in Jackson seeing out the end of his rookie deal and Baltimore placing a non-exclusive franchise tag on him.

With the non-exclusive franchise tag, Jackson can negotiate a deal with any other team. After he signs the contract, the Ravens would have five days to match it or to let Jackson go and receive two first-round picks in exchange.

Jackson is coming off back-to-back years in which he finished the season prematurely due to injuries. He is 45-16 as a starter since entering the league and was named NFL MVP in 2019.

The Baltimore Ravens and their star quarterback Lamar Jackson failed to agree on a new contract before the NFL’s franchise tag deadline on Tuesday. As a result, the Ravens placed a franchise tag on Jackson in order to prevent him from entering free agency.

According to multiple reports, the Ravens opted for a nonexclusive franchise tag. This gives Jackson the ability to negotiate with other teams in the same way as if he was a free agent. If he agrees to a contract, the Ravens will have five days to match the offer or let the player walk while receiving two first-round picks in return.

The Ravens’ general manager Eric DeCosta issued a statement following the move, saying that the franchise intends to continue talks with Jackson on a long-term deal.

“We will continue to negotiate in good faith with Lamar, and we are hopeful that we can strike a long-term deal that is fair to both Lamar and the Ravens,” DeCosta said. “Our ultimate goal is to build a championship team with Lamar Jackson leading the way for many years to come.”

Jackson and the Ravens have been locked in negotiations for the past two seasons but have failed to find common ground. Reportedly, the biggest issue was that Jackson was looking for a fully-guaranteed contract, something that Baltimore’s front office had no intention of giving him.

There is no doubt that Jackson will have many suitors who will be ready to give him a better offer than the Ravens did. Despite struggling with injuries in the past two seasons, he still remains one of the most electric signal-callers in the game and has the ability to change the fortunes of a franchise for years to come.

The Baltimore Ravens are facing an uphill battle to lock their signal-caller Lamar Jackson to a long-term contract. According to a recent report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the two sides are $100 million apart when it comes to the overall value of the deal.

Fowler adds that the two sides are continuing talks but haven’t made much progress in recent months to bridge this massive gap. The most likely scenario is the Ravens placing an exclusive franchise tag on Jackson and buying themselves more time. The ESPN reporter also adds that Baltimore is also bracing for upcoming calls from teams interested in trading for the former NFL MVP.

Jackson and Ravens have been engaged in contract talks for almost two years now but never quite got close to hammering out a deal. One of the contributing factors to lengthy negotiations is that the player is representing himself and has been refusing to negotiate while the season is underway. The other is Jackson’s demands.

Multiple reports have indicated that Jackson is looking to become the highest-paid quarterback in the league. While this might not be such an issue for Baltimore, his wish to have a fully guaranteed contract like Deshaun Watson got from the Cleveland Browns is. The Ravens believe that Watson’s deal was an outlier and haven’t entertained the possibility of caving to Jackson’s demands.

Jackson was limited to 12 games in 2022 while dealing with a sprained knee. He finished the campaign passing for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while also adding 764 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

The Baltimore Ravens confirmed on Sunday evening that Lamar Jackson’s knee injury will not rule him out of action for the rest of the season.

“It’s going to be a number [of] days to weeks. We’ll see,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said after the team’s 10-9 victory over the Denver Broncos. “We’ll see if he can go back this week. If not, it’ll be sometime after that shortly.”

Harbaugh added that Jackson will undergo further testing on Monday and that the team would know by Wednesday how long he will be sidelined.

Jackson was injured while trying to elude the pass rush during the victory over the Broncos. Last year, he was also injured in December, with the Ravens sitting atop the AFC North standings then as well.

Filling in for Jackson was backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, who led a game-winning, 91-yard drive in the final minutes of regulation time. He finished the game 27-of-32 for 187 yards with one interception. According to Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, Huntley has exhibited plenty of confidence as well as the composure he needs to fill in for Jackson.

The clock is ticking on the Baltimore Ravens to come to an extension agreement with their star quarterback Lamar Jackson. Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Jackson said that he’d stop all negotiations once the 2022 regular season starts.

“We’re coming up to it. It’s coming up,” Jackson told reporters when asked whether there is a deadline for the deal to be made. “The season’s coming up. We’re going to be good for the season.”

If he doesn’t receive a new deal, Jackson will then play out 2022 on a fifth-year option that will pay him $23 million in salary. The former NFL MVP would then be set to become a free agent, although the Ravens have a franchise tag as an option to keep him in Baltimore.

Jackson doesn’t have an agent and is handling the extension negotiations himself. The two sides reportedly only started talking in June as the 25-year-old player previously didn’t show much interest in getting the agreement done.

If Baltimore and Jackson manage to find common ground in the next four weeks, the Louisville product is expected to become the highest-paid quarterback in the league. Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers is currently the top-paid QB with a $50.3 million annual salary.

Jackson, who was the Ravens’ first-round pick in 2018, has thrown for 9,967 yards, 84 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions so far in his pro career. He also added 3,673 rushing yards and 21 TDs en route to two Pro Bowl nods and an MVP award in 2019.

Lamar Jackson and his Baltimore Ravens finally managed to overcome the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs. In a Sunday night clash between the two AFC rivals, Jackson, who was previously 0-3 against the Chiefs, rushed for two touchdowns and added one passing score to propel the Ravens to a close-contested 36-35 win.

Things started badly for Jackson as he threw a pick-six on his third play of the game. Chiefs All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu intercepted the ball on a tough 3rd & 8 pass deep in Baltimore’s territory and managed to return it all the way to the end zone.

The Ravens managed to make things even on the following possession, although they did it in an unusual way. Running back, Ty’Son Williams fumbled the ball as he was trying to reach for the end zone, but wideout Devin Duvernay managed to pick it up in the air and score an unlikely touchdown.

The Chiefs then regained the lead thanks to a 33-yard pass from Mahomes to Demarcus Robinson, with Baltimore responding via newly-acquired back Latavius Murray after several punts by both teams. By the end of the first half, Kansas City put another seven points on the board while the Ravens had to be content with a 43-yard field goal by Justin Tucker.

The third quarter saw more of the same. The Chiefs scored on their first drive, and the Ravens immediately hit back on their first possession of the second half with a huge 42-yard play from Jackson to wideout Marquise Brown.

Kansas City responded with a 46-yard TD pass from Mahomes to tight end Travis Kelce to get a comfortable 35-24 lead.

Entering the fourth quarter, it seemed Mahomes and the Chiefs would remain unbeaten against the Ravens in the Lamar Jackson era. However, Jackson and Baltimore’s defense had other ideas.

The Ravens scored a TD to open the fourth quarter and then forced Kansas City to punt. Jackson used this opportunity to deliver another scoring drive that he capped off himself with an impressive flip into the end zone.

Baltimore now had a 36-35 lead but still had to stop Patrick Mahomes and a high-octane Kansas City Chiefs defense one last time. And they managed to do it in a spectacular fashion, with Odafe Oweh first forcing a fumble by Clyde Edwards-Helaire and then recovering the ball himself.

The win improved the Ravens to 1-1 and second place in AFC North, while the Chiefs are now third in AFC West with the same record.

Lamar Jackson finished the game with 239 passing yards and one passing touchdown adding 107 rushing yards and two TDs on the ground.

Mahomes, on the other hand, had 343 passing yards and threw for three touchdowns.

Baltimore Ravens’ second-year wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown isn’t happy with his role in the team’s offense so far in 2020. Brown has been especially frustrated with the lack of targets he has been receiving and recently even went on social media to express his displeasure after getting only two looks in Sunday’s 28-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, Ravens’ star quarterback Lamar Jackson decided to weigh in on the situation by taking the blame for the way Brown is feeling.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Jackson said that he “has to do a better job” in getting the ball to Brown.

“That’s one of our key players to our offense,” said Jackson. “I want to get him the ball, the easiest way and fastest way we can. I have to do a better job of getting it to him.”

Brown leads Baltimore with 27 receptions for 379 yards this season but has only been targeted 44 times in the past eight games. This ranks him 45th in the NFL, which is painfully low for a player that is considered his team’s No.1 option on the position.

It remains to be seen whether Marquise Brown’s public plea will help him get more looks as the season advances. Ravens have been more oriented towards rushing due to Jackson’s unique set of abilities, and it also doesn’t help that Brown is more of a deep threat rather than a wideout for short gains.

Brown was expected to have a big season in 2020, especially considering his encouraging production last year. He finished his rookie campaign with 46 catches for 584 yards and seven touchdowns.
