Baltimore Ravens finished the 2019 NFL season with the best record in the league and entered the playoffs as the biggest favorites to win it all. However, their road to the Super Bowl ended in the Divisional Round, where they suffered a 12-28 defeat to the Tennessee Titans.

Now, the Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson decided to offer an explanation for his team’s shocking elimination during a recent appearance on the Load Management podcast. According to Jackson, Baltimore underestimated the Titans, and it came back to bite them.

“That’s what happened in the playoffs, and we end up losing to the team people had us favored over,” said Jackson. “It’s any given Sunday. You can’t underestimate no team, no opponent, and that’s what we did.”

Jackson, who won the NFL MVP award in 2019, also admitted that he made a significant contribution to the loss. The 23-year-old signal-caller threw two interceptions and had a forced fumble that sealed Ravens’ fate in that game.

“I had a lot of mistakes on my behalf,” said Jackson. “Three turnovers—that shouldn’t happen. But [Tennessee] came out to play.”

The Baltimore Ravens are among the Super Bowl favorites this season as well, and there is no doubt that their players will be motivated to avenge the loss against Tennessee. Lamar Jackson especially.

Leading the Baltimore Ravens to a 42-21 win over New York Jets on Thursday, Lamar Jackson didn’t only help his team clinch the second consecutive AFC North title. He also became the NFL record holder for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season.

Against Jets, Jackson rushed for 86 yards, bringing his total for the season to 1,103. This was enough to top 1,039 yards record set in 2006 by legendary Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick.

After the game, Jackson said that “it’s an honor” he broke Vick’s record as he was his favorite player growing up.

“It’s pretty cool,” said Jackson. “My favorite player growing up. It’s amazing, and I’m gonna cherish that forever and just gotta keep it going. Records are meant to be broken, like he said, I heard him say that. It’s an honor for me to do it.”

Jackson previously also broke NFL record for most consecutive games with 100+ yards rushing by a QB, setting the new mark at four games. Considering there are still two more games to be played in 2019 regular season, don’t be surprised if the 22-year-old continues to write his name in history books.

Lamar Jackson is currently having a breakout season, in which he established himself as the favorite for the MVP award. Jackson led the Ravens’ to NFL best 12-2 record this season while putting up some spectacular numbers. He is currently completing 66.2 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2,889 yards and league-leading 33 touchdowns.

It only took Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson 10 starts in the NFL to establish himself as one of the best young QBs in the league. This has to do a lot with his ability to run with the ball, which makes him an excellent dual-threat and nightmare for the opposing defenses. But it turns out Jackson would rather settle in the conventional QB role.

Speaking with ESPN, Jackson recently revealed that he “hates running” and would prefer to score points by throwing the ball.

“I hate running,” – Jackson admitted. “Only if I have to, but my job is to get the ball to the receivers, the tight ends, running backs. If I have to run, I’ll do it, but I’d rather just sit back and pass it. I like throwing touchdowns instead of running them.”

In his rookie season, Jackson mostly relied on his feet to advance the ball up the field, having 17 carries per game. This year, however, he is down to nine rushing attempts and it seems like the 22-year-old is gaining more confidence in his passing game.

So far in 2019, Jackson managed to complete 63.0 percent of his passes while throwing for 863 and seven touchdowns. The impressive thing is that he also hasn’t thrown a single interception this season.

While improving as a passer, Jackson also remained efficient in the rushing game. He is averaging 6.37 yards per attempt and has one rushing touchdown.

Jackson is now working with his former high school coach Joshua Harris on his accuracy and is starting from fundamentals.

“Keeping a wide base, throwing out-breaking routes,” – he added. “Just trying to be spot-on with my accuracy, trying to work on every attribute I can.”
