We won’t be witnessing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s magic on MLS games anymore. LA Galaxy confirmed on Wednesday that Ibrahimovic will be leaving the club after spending two years with the organization.

It looked like Ibrahimovic and Galaxy would manage to work out a contract extension during the past several days, but the two sides ended up failing to find an agreement.

The 38-year-old first broke the story about his departure, posting a cryptic message on social media in which he thanked the club and the fans for “making him feel alive again.”

Shortly after that, the Galaxy confirmed the news.

“Since his arrival in 2018, Zlatan has positively influenced the sport of soccer in Los Angeles. We are grateful for his work ethic and passion.” – said LA Galaxy president Chris Klein in a statement. “We thank Zlatan for his professionalism and immeasurable impact on the Los Angeles community and the soccer community in North America as a whole.”

Ibrahimovic joined Galaxy ahead of the 2018 MLS season, and immediately asserted himself as one of the league’s best players. He ended up making 53 appearances with the club and scoring 52 goals while also dishing 17 assists.

According to several reports, Ibrahimovic will most likely continue his career in Europe with AC Milan and Napoli being mentioned as favorites for his signature.

LA Galaxy announced on Wednesday that they have agreed on a new one-year deal with English left back and former Chelsea and Arsenal star, Ashley Cole. The news has been confirmed on the team’s official Twitter profile.

We are very excited that Ashley will be returning to us in 2018. He’s been a tremendous leader for our club,“- said LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid. “He’s shown he can be successful in this league and we’re confident that will continue in the season ahead.

Ashley Cole started his soccer career with Arsenal, playing for the team from 1999 to 2006, winning five trophies including the English Premier League twice (in 2002 and 2004). In 2006, Cole was transferred to Chelsea, after rejecting a new contract with Arsenal, due to small wages. With Chelsea, he managed to win UEFA Champions League alongside UEFA Europa League and Premier League trophies.

Cole played in A.S. Roma from 2014 until January 2016 when he signed with LA Galaxy. With the Galaxy, he played 55 matches and scored on two occasions. Although he had troubles with discipline on few occasions, Cole is still one of the top defenders in the league and showed that, despite being 37 years old, he can still provide much for the team.

Signing back Cole, who occupied the team’s last foreign-allocation roster spot, was just one of the deals LA Galaxy made in the offseason. The team previously signed defenders Rolf Feltscher and Jorgen Skjelvik while also acquiring the draft rights on goalkeeper David Bingham. These moves by Galaxy mean that the team is looking to make up for the terrible 2017 season in which they finished the season in last place overall.

The LA Galaxy will open their season against Portland Timbers on March 4.
