With a 111-92 win over the Miami Heat, the Dallas Mavericks reached the 50-win mark in 2023-24. This ensured that the Mavs would finish the season as the fifth seed in the Western Conference but also brought a nice payout for their star point guard Kyrie Irving.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Irving had a bonus clause in his contract that required Mavs to pay him $1 million if they reach 50 wins this season and he plays at least 50 games.

Irving signed a 3 year, $120 million contract with the Mavs in the offseason. At the time, he revealed that he asked for several performance-based incentives in order to provide a bit of added motivation for himself.

“I wanted everything that was structured in my contract incentive-wise to be based on production, and that was wins and how many games I’m playing,” Irving said at the time. “…

So I just wanted to make sure that I had some friendly terms, but also some realistic expectations for myself going into the season, looking to just play as many games as possible.”

Irving played in 58 games this season, his most since the 2018-19 campaign. Still, he will miss out on another bonus, which he would be due if he plays 65 games in 2023-24, considering there are only two games left in the regular season.

Kyrie Irving played exceptional basketball for the Mavs this season, averaging 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 41.1% from three-point line.

The Dallas Mavericks revealed on Saturday that their star guard, Kyrie Irving, is dealing with a right heel contusion. According to the franchise, there is no timetable for Irving’s return.

Irving was hurt in the second quarter of Friday’s 112-125 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. The 31-year-old was fouled while driving to the basket and fell to the ground. At that point, his teammate Dwight Powell was trying to get a loose ball and ended up falling on Irving’s foot.

Irving thanked fans for their support in a post on X (former Twitter) while adding that he is “feeling better than I was yesterday, and for now, that’s all I can ask for. I’ll be fine.”

Kyrie Irving has been dealing with a lingering right foot issue since the start of the 2023-24 NBA season. This caused him to miss four games up to this point. He has already been ruled out for Monday’s clash against the Memphis Grizzlies.

When available, Irving has been playing well. He is currently averaging 23.0 points alongside 3.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals.

The Mavericks are currently third in the Western Conference with a 13-8 record.

Kyrie Irving would like to team up with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James this offseason. However, this doesn’t include him joining the Los Angeles Lakers as many predicted. Instead, Irving would like to have the reunion happen in Dallas.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Irving recently reached out to James to see whether he would like to play alongside him with the Mavericks.

It is interesting to hear that Irving is inviting James to Dallas, especially since it isn’t certain whether he’ll be there. Irving is a free agent this offseason, and even though the Mavs can offer him the most money, he might be looking elsewhere if an opportunity arises.

While the trio of Irving, James, and Luka Doncic would be widely entertaining to watch, the chances of that happening are slim to none. This is mainly because James would have to want to come to Dallas, and the Lakers would need to be willing to let him go. From there, the Mavs would need to strip down their roster just to fit the salaries of their Big 3 under the salary cap.

The more realistic option is that Irving and James join forces in Los Angeles. The Lakers would be able to sign Irving if he is willing to take less money or acquire him in a sign-and-trade with the Mavs.

Irving joined the Mavericks ahead of the NBA trade deadline from the Brooklyn Nets. He averaged 26.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in 20 games he played for the Mavs but failed to help the franchise make the playoffs.

After the Los Angeles Lakers missed out on trading for Kyrie Irving in February, many believed that the franchise is planning to revisit interest in an All-Star guard in the offseason. Irving is set to become a free agent in the summer and reportedly would like to play again with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James in LA. But according to ESPN’s NBA Insider Brian Windhorst, the Lakers have other plans.

Speaking on his The Hoop Collective podcast earlier this week, Windhorst said that the sources close to the Lakers had told him the team won’t pursue Irving when he hits the free agency.

“To my knowledge, and [from] what I’ve been told, the Kyrie ship I think has sailed,” Windhorst explained.

Windhorst added that the Lakers’ mindset at the moment is to keep the team as it is and try to retain their own free agents. They have nine players on their roster being set for free agency, including unrestricted free agents in D’Angelo Russell, Lonnie Walker IV, and Dennis Schröder.

The Lakers reportedly offered a package centered on former MVP Russell Westbrook and a first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving ahead of the NBA trade deadline. The Nets didn’t find this offer too attractive and instead went with the Dallas Mavericks’ package that consisted of Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, and two second-rounders.

Since arriving in Dallas, Irving is averaging career-high 28.4 points per game while adding 5.2 rebounds and 6.6 assists.

The Brooklyn Nets seem like they just can’t keep their stars happy. After James Harden successfully forced a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers and Kevin Durant requested a trade in the summer before changing his mind, now it’s the star point guard Kyrie Irving’s turn to look for a way out.

According to multiple reports around the league, Irving officially requested to be traded from the Nets on Friday. The move apparently came after the two sides couldn’t agree on a new contract extension. The 30-year-old player is set to become a free agent after the 2022-23 NBA season after picking up his $36.9 million player option in the summer.

Irving is eligible to sign a four-year, $198.5 million maximum extension with the Nets, but the franchise reportedly doesn’t want to tie up that kind of money in a player that was involved in a number of controversies off the court. Brooklyn was willing to make a deal but wanted to include partial guarantees and a series of conditions, something that didn’t sit well with the 8-time All-Star.

There are several teams reportedly interested in acquiring Kyrie Irving before the trade deadline on Thursday, including the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers are considered Irving’s preferred option, but it is unclear whether they can put together an offer that will appeal to the Nets.

Irving has been playing at a high level this season, averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. He has been particularly on a tear since mid-January, scoring 30+ points in six out of his last eight games.

All-Star guard Kyrie Irving decided not to seek the Brooklyn Nets exit anymore. Instead, Irving picked up his 2022-23 player option and intends to play for the Nets next season.

By opting in, Irving is set to earn $36.5 million in 2022-23. He will be an unrestricted free agent after that.

“Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow,” Irving told The Athletic about his decision. “I’ve made my decision to opt-in. See you in the fall. A11even.”

Kyrie Irving spent the past several days looking for a way to leave Brooklyn after he and the Nets reached an “impasse” in extension talks. The franchise proceeded to give Irving the green light to seek a sign-and-trade deal, but this proved to be a more complicated affair than expected. It turned out that only the Los Angeles Lakers were willing to take a swing for the 30-year-old, but the Nets were far from impressed with their offer.

Irving exercising his player option now nixes any sign-and-trade scenario. Brooklyn could still trade him at some point, but that looks unlikely at the time being. The most likely outcome is that the team runs it back with Irving and hopes for the best.

Irving had a turbulent 2021-22 campaign, having played only 29 games due to his decision not to get the COVID-19 vaccine. While he averaged 27.4 points when he was on the floor, his absence greatly affected the Nets and their chances to make a deep playoff run. Brooklyn ended up being eliminated in the first round by the Boston Celtics.

Prior to the 2021-22 NBA season, it was a foregone conclusion that superstar guard Kyrie Irving would be with the Brooklyn Nets for years to come. Now? Not so much.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Irving and Nets have reached an “impasse” in talks about his future with the franchise. As a result, the 30-year-old is now expected to test the open market during the offseason.

Irving has a $36.9 million player option for next season but is yet to make a decision on it. The seven-time All-Star previously reiterated his willingness to remain in Brooklyn on several occasions, but it now seems his plans have changed.

“I don’t really plan on going anywhere,” said Irving when asked about his future following a first-round playoff exit against the Boston Celtics.

If Kyrie Irving indeed becomes available, there are several teams mentioned as contenders for his signature. The list includes the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks, and the LA Clippers. The Lakers certainly seem like the most intriguing option as the move would reunite him with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James.

Irving played only 29 regular-season games in 2021-22. He averaged 27.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game while shooting a career-high 41.8 percent behind the three-point line.

Star point guard Kyrie Irving is so committed to playing with the Brooklyn Nets that he would rather retire than suit up for another team. At least, that is what Nick Wright of Fox Sports claims.

Wright, who hosts First Things First at Fox Sports 1, recently went on Twitter to share “some NBA news” with his followers. According to him, Irving’s agents made it clear to the Nets and everyone else that their client would “retire from the NBA” if he was to be traded.

The tweet caught the attention of Irving, who responded to Wright by labeling him as “a puppet.”

Wright then told Irving his “beef” is with his representatives and doubled down on his claim by writing: “You and I both know that’s what they’ve told people.”

Without questioning Wright’s credibility, it is hard to imagine Kyrie Irving walking from the NBA just because he got traded. It is even harder to picture the Nets wanting to trade him.

Throughout the offseason, Brooklyn brass repeatedly stated that they want to keep their superstar trio of Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden together for the foreseeable future. The franchise has already locked Durant to a long-term extension and plans to do the same with Irving and Harden.

Also, there is no reason for Brooklyn to make any major shakeups in their roster. They looked like the best team in basketball when they managed to have Irving, Durant, and Harden on the floor together in 2020-21 and are already the favorites to go all the way in 2021-22.

Brooklyn Nets will be without their superstar guard Kyrie Irving for this week’s three-game road trip. According to an official announcement on social media, Irving needs to “tend to a family matter” and won’t travel with the rest of the team.

Irving’s absence is another tough blow for the Nets, who are trying to catch the Philadelphia 76ers at the top of the East standings. Brooklyn is already without former MVP Kevin Durant and guard Landry Shamet, while All-Star James Harden is dealing with neck soreness and is questionable for the upcoming games.

Kyrie Irving has been exceptional for the Nets this season, averaging 28.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. The issue for the Nets, however, is that Irving wasn’t exactly reliable so far in 2020/21 and has missed a total of 12 games.

Irving first took an unexplained absence in January, being away from the team for two weeks. He also had issues with the COVID-19 protocol breach and sat out additional four games due to injuries.

Nets, who are currently the No.2 seed with a 29-14 record, will open the road trip against Portland Trail Blazers before visiting Western Conference leaders Utah Jazz. They end their journey in Detroit against the Pistons.

Brooklyn Nets’ hired Hall of Famer Steve Nash as their new head coach last month, but it appears that the two-times NBA MVP might have some trouble to exert his authority in the locker room. Especially since his two main players feel like they don’t have a head coach.

Kyrie Irving recently made an appearance on his teammate Kevin Durant’s The Etcs podcast, where the two All-Stars discussed the hiring of Nash.

“I don’t really see us having a head coach,” said Irving. “KD could be a head coach, I could be a head coach [some days].”

Durant followed up on Irving’s comment by saying that a number of people, including assistant Jacque Vaughn, could take on the role at some point.

“It’s a collaborative effort,” he added.

Despite not perceiving Steve Nash as an authoritative figure, the duo spoke candidly about the former Phoenix Suns guard.

“Steve is great, and I have a relationship with him that’s going to build over time, bro,” Irving added. “Steve don’t know me from anything he heard or he’s heard someone else. We’ve worked out one time in 2014, but it’s grown as just a respectful relationship from afar.”

Despite not having prior head coaching experience, Nash worked with several successful NBA organizations in various roles since retirement. The Nets now hope that he can use that experience and his leadership capabilities to bring success to a talented team that will most certainly have title aspirations next season.
