When the late Kobe Bryant won his first NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers, he decided to give his father, Joe Bryant, an NBA championship ring identical to his. Now, this ring has been sold for $927,000 at an auction organized by Goldin.

According to Goldin, the sale included 43 bids and set the record for the most money spent on an NBA Championship ring. The previous record holder was the championship ring belonging to legendary Bill Russell from 1957. The overall record for all championship rings is held by Babe Ruth’s 1927 World Series title ring, which sold for $2.093 million back in 2017.

It is important to note that this isn’t the ring that was given to Bryant after he won the NBA Championship. Instead, Bryan had the exact same replica made for his father. He also gave one in smaller size to his mother. That was the only time Bryant gifted his parents replicas of his championship ring.

Goldin also pointed out that the ring was sold by Joe Bryant through an auction in 2013 for $173,000. The person who bought the ring back then is the one who sold it this time.

The Los Angeles Lakers will honor the late franchise legend Kobe Bryant with three statues situated in front of the team’s Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers unveiled the first of those statues earlier this week during a ceremony attended by Bryant’s widow, Vanessa.

The 19-foot statue features Bryant wearing a No. 8 jersey and pointing his finger up in the air while being surrounded by five NBA championship trophies. It captures the moment as Bryant walked away from the court after the 2006 game versus the Toronto Raptors, in which he scored 81 points.

“For the record, Kobe picked the pose you’re about to see,” Vanessa said as the statue was about to be revealed. “… This moment isn’t just for Kobe, but it’s for all of you who have been rooting for him all of these years.”

Considering that Bryant’s Hall of Fame career was filled with big moments and amazing achievements, the Lakers and Vanessa couldn’t settle on just one statute. Together, they made a decision to have three statutes in order to better capture Bryant’s legacy.

The second statue will show Bryant wearing the No.24 jersey, while the third one will feature him alongside his daughter Gianna. The unveiling date for the remaining two statues is yet to be determined.

“When I found out there was going to be three statues, I just said, ‘That’s fitting,’” said Lakers’ general manager and Bryant’s longtime agent Rob Pelinka. “Because it’s just how the City of Angels feels about Kobe. He deserves something that no other athlete that’s ever played here deserves.”

All-Star Donovan Mitchell netted 71 points to lift the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 145-134 overtime win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night. In addition to being the highest score by a single NBA player in 17 years, Mitchell’s 71 points tally also set a franchise record for the Cavs.

This is the most points scored by an individual player in a single game since Kobe Bryant’s 81-point haul for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Toronto Raptors on January 22, 2006. The highest-ever tally in NBA history still belongs to Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points for Philadelphia against New York on March 2, 1962.

“To be there in the record book with guys like Wilt is truly humbling,” Mitchell commented after the game. “I always believed I could be one of the best players in the league. I’m speechless and blessed to be in the company of that greatness.”

Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff labeled Mitchell’s performance as being one of the greatest in NBA history, while also commending the player for putting himself out there for his team.

With that victory, the Cavs remain in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings, safely within reach of a playoff spot.

The jersey worn by the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in his rookie season was recently sold at an auction for $2.73 million. The auction was organized by SCP Auctions and finalized on Sunday.

Announcing the winning bid, the SCP Auctions said that both seller and buyer wished to remain anonymous.

The jersey in question was worn by Bryant in multiple games during 1996–97, including two postseason games. It was in the seller’s possession for more than 25 years. The estimated price before the auction was between $3 million and $5 million.

Despite the steep price, this isn’t the most expensive Bryant’s jersey. Back in 2021, another of Bryant’s rookie season jerseys made it to the auction. That one was sold for $3.69 million—the highest price ever paid for a basketball jersey. It was not only worn by Bryant but also had his autograph.

During his rookie season with the Lakers, Kobe Bryant played mostly as a backup and averaged 7.6 points per game. Despite the lack of playing time, he made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Bryant also made nine appearances in the playoffs in his first year as a pro, scoring 8.2 points on average.

Bryant would go on to win five NBA championships with the Lakers while being named NBA MVP in 2008. The 18-time All-Star retired following the 2015–16 NBA season. He died in a tragic helicopter accident on January 26, 2020.

Ever since the tragic death of the late great Kobe Bryant in early 2020, players have delivered endless tributes to the Laker Legend. The most recent of them came from none other than Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant.

In an Instagram story, Durant shared a photo of Bryant guarding him back when Durant played for the Seattle SuperSonics (now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder). On the photo, Durant wrote the caption, “Bean always hackin’ man”.

There’s no secret that Kobe was a relentless defender. In addition to his incredible ability to score, the Black Mamba made the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times, and the All-Defensive Second Team three times throughout his career.

So why did Durant share this story? Some might say that Durant was just trolling. Some might say that Durant was trying to make excuses for how he might’ve performed against the Mamba.

But those who know how much Durant looked up to the five-time NBA Champion know very well that his Instagram post was clearly done out of love. When the world lost Kobe, it was devastating for his family, friends, and fans—but also for his fellow NBA players.

We all have different ways of coping with loss, and this seems to be KD’s way of doing it.

The Philadelphia Eagles have unveiled a new mural at their practice facility that pays tribute to the late basketball player Kobe Bryant.

The NovaCare Complex’s new wall art features three pictures of Bryant: one in his Los Angeles Lakers uniform, one in an Eagles uniform, and one in a Lower Merion High School uniform, the local school that Bryant attended as a teenager.

The centerpiece of the mural is a list of “Kobe’s 10 Rules,” which the NBA legend preached whenever asked about what it takes to succeed, in sports or otherwise.

Bryant was a Philadelphia native and a life-long Eagles supporter. After spending some of his earlier childhood years abroad, Bryant returned to the area and gained national attention at Lower Merion High School, where he was a starter on the varsity basketball team during his freshman year.

The five-time NBA champion and 18-time All-Star died in a helicopter crash in January.

Philadelphia’s newly-signed star defensive back Darius Slay recently announced that he would be wearing No. 24 this year in honor of Bryant.

Kobe Bryant has been honored with a spot as a cover athlete on the NBA 2K21 video game in the aftermath of his death in a helicopter accident in January.

The NBA 2K series, one of the highest-selling sports video games on the market and the only officially-licensed NBA game for the PlayStation and Xbox, has added Bryant as the third option alongside the Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard and the New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson.

2K is set to offer a “Mamba Forever” edition on both current and next-gen platforms in the fall in order to honor the life and legacy of the former Lakers star.

Bryant, a five-time winner of the NBA title, the 2008 Most Valuable Player, and an 18-time All-Star, will be featured as this year’s legend cover, an honor which has previously been given to players such as Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal.

The “Mamba Forever” edition of the game is set to include exclusive content related to the career of one of the biggest stars in the history of the National Basketball Association.

This year’s game is expected to be released on September 4th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and will be released later for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series when they hit the market this fall.

The names of basketball legends Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and Tim Duncan won’t make it to the Hall of Fame just yet. According to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame chairman Jerry Colangelo, the induction ceremony for the Class of 2020 will be postponed for next year.

The induction ceremony was scheduled to take place on August 28-30, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the board of governors is considering other dates. Several alternative dates were in play this year before the Hall finally settled on the spring of 2021.

“We’re definitely canceling,” Colangelo told ESPN on Wednesday. “It’s going to have to be the first quarter of next year. We’ll meet in a couple of weeks and look at the options of how and when and where.”

Colangelo also explained that the 2020 and 2021 class of inductees will receive its separate ceremonies, with both taking place next year.

“We won’t be combining them,” he added. “The Class of 2020 is a very special class and deserves its own celebration.”

The Class of 2020 is one of the most star-studded lineups in the history of Hall of Fame and features recently deceased Los Angeles Lakers’ legend Kobe Bryant, San Antonio Spurs’ great Tim Duncan, and Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics’ superstar Kevin Garnett. Between themselves, Bryant, Duncan, and Garnett have 11 NBA titles, four NBA Most Valuable Player awards, and close to 50 All-Star appearances.

Besides Bryant, Duncan, and Garnett, this year’s class of inductees also includes former Houston Rockets’ coach Rudy Tomjanovich, Four-time Olympic gold medalist Tamika Catchings, and Baylor women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey among others.

LeBron James is one of the most accomplished players in the history of the National Basketball Association. On Saturday night, he added yet another milestone to his list of feats, passing the late former Lakers guard Kobe Bryant for 3rd place on the league’s all-time scoring list.

James went into Saturday night’s clash with the 76ers at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia needing 18 points to eclipse Bryant’s career mark of 33,643. The Sixers didn’t make things easy for the King, but he finally got close to the mark in the third quarter.

He took off towards the basket and completed a running layup, accomplishing the feat in Bryant’s hometown. At the next timeout, the arena gave James a standing ovation in honor of his achievement.

LeBron was effusive in his praise of the former Laker great, saying, ” I’m happy just to be in any conversation with Kobe Bean Bryant, one of the all-time greatest basketball players to ever play, one of the all-time greatest Lakers. The man has two jerseys hanging up in Staples Center. It’s just crazy.”

The only two names remaining for James to pass on the all-time scoring list are Karl Malone (36,928 points) and Kareem Abdul-Jabar (38,387 points), two names that appear well within reach for the Akron, Ohio native.

James finished the night with 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists in his team’s 108-91 loss to Philadelphia.

Despite all of his achievements, Los Angeles Lakers’ legend Kobe Bryant never managed to challenge Michael Jordan for the “greatest of all time” title in basketball in the eyes of the fans.

Still, there is a significant number of people who think Bryant was a better basketball player than Jordan. As it turns out, Washington Wizards’ center Dwight Howard is one of them.

Howard recently appeared on Gilbert Arenas’ “The No Chill Podcast” and decided to weigh in on the GOAT conversation. “I think he [Kobe] is better than Jordan. Everything Jordan did, he did it better.”

Dwight Howard’s pick of Kobe Bryant as a GOAT is definitely surprising stuff especially since the two didn’t get along during Howard’s stay in Los Angeles in 2012 and 2013. Howard complained that Bryant was shooting too much and didn’t give him the ball enough, which eventually led to strain relations between the two. Bryant ended up forcing Howard to reject the Lakers contract offer and sign with Houston Rockets.

While Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant were similar when it comes to the style of play, there is no doubt that Jordan had a more accomplished career. Jordan has six NBA titles and five MVP award compared to Bryant’s five championships and one MVP award. Jordan was also NBA scoring champion 10 times while Bryant led the league in scoring just twice. We don’t know about you, but for us, this pretty much clears the confusion.
