The Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love is currently in discussions with the team over a potential contract buyout. This comes after sources revealed that Love formally requested to be bought out on Wednesday.

The last remaining player from the Cavs’ 2016 NBA Championship-winning team, Love has spent nine seasons with the team. While he is currently in the final year of his contract with a $31.2 million salary, Love is looking to depart Cleveland after falling out of favor with the team. No longer relied upon in the Cavs’ rotation, Love has not featured in any of the team’s past 12 games.

Given that the Cavs have gone 9-3 during Love’s omission, it is unlikely that he will feature for the team again in the short term unless an injury arises. To date, Love has averaged 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 41 games this season.

While unusual for a team like the Cavaliers to release a veteran midway through the season, the long-shared history between Love and the Cavaliers makes it more likely for them to accept his request.

The Cavs currently rank fourth in the Eastern Conference, putting them on course to another playoff berth.

The Cleveland Cavaliers shared an optimistic update about the recovery of their All-Star forward Kevin Love. According to the team’s announcement, which was shared on Wednesday, Love resumed individual basketball activities this week and should soon return to team practices.

The Cavs added that Love’s condition will be assessed on a daily basis, and his participation in full-contact drills will depend on this. If everything goes well, the next step for a 32-year-old star should be playing NBA games.

Love hasn’t played since late December after aggravating a right-calf strain in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers. He made two appearances in 2020-21 and is averaging 9.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.5 points per game.

Despite Love’s absence, Cleveland has played really well this season. The young roster, led by Colin Sexton and Darius Garland, is hovering around .500 and has a 10-12 record. This is enough for No. 7 in the Eastern Conference at the moment.

With Kevin Love back, the Cavs should become instantly better and might have a legitimate chance to challenge for the playoffs. Cleveland missed the postseason in both of the previous two seasons while having the worst and second-to-worst records in the East, respectively.

Cleveland Cavaliers star power forward Kevin Love is back on the sidelines once again. Love aggravated an existing calf injury in a 118-94 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday and will be out for three to four weeks while recovering.

The Cavaliers confirmed the news after Love underwent an MRI test on Tuesday. According to the team’s statement, he will begin the rehab process immediately, and his status will be updated once he is ready to return to action.

Love initially got injured during the preseason, causing him to miss the Cavs’ season opener against the Charlotte Hornets. The 32-year-old veteran made his return in the team’s second game, putting up 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists against the Detroit Pistons.

Losing an important player like Love is a tough blow to the Cavs, especially after a promising start to the season. Cleveland achieved a 3-0 start, hinting at a possible turnaround for a franchise that finished at the bottom of the East in the past two seasons.

With Love out, the Cavs will most likely turn to Larry Nance Jr. as the starter at the power forward position. Nance played some great all-around basketball since the new season started, averaging 8.7 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

After a season and a half of misery following LeBron James’s departure from Cleveland, it appears that the Cavaliers are considering dealing away the final key piece of James-era team.

Kevin Love, according to multiple records, could be on the move due to the Cavaliers’ newfound interest in trading him away from a beneficial package of young players and/or draft picks.

Love, who is 31-years-old, has been with Cleveland since the 2014-15 season after he was acquired in a three-team deal from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He played a key role in the Cavaliers’ four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals and their 2016 championship during the golden mid-decade for the long-suffering franchise.

Despite James’ departure, he signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the Cavs prior to the 2018-19 season.

The UCLA alum is a five-time NBA All-Star who owns a career average of 18.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. He has missed large chunks of two of the past three seasons with injury problems, but has remained an effective player while healthy.

Love is averaging 16.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the miserable Cavaliers this season, just slightly below his career averages.

Keep an eye on Love to see if a contender decides to swing a deal for him before next February’s trade deadline.

It’s safe to say that Cleveland Cavaliers will not be competitive anytime soon, given the fact that they are in complete rebuild mode. But it seems like this won’t get Cavs’ five-time All-Star Kevin Love to lose faith in his team and starts searching a way out.

Although Love has been a subject of numerous trade rumors in recent months, which link him with championship-contending teams, the 31-year-old isn’t keen on leaving Cleveland.

“I do want to be here. I always have,” – said Love in an exclusive interview with cleveland.com. “I say that knowing it’s the NBA and it’s a business. I think especially after seeing last year, the summer leading up to last year and this summer, the changeover is like unprecedented so you don’t know what is going to happen.”

Love is aware of the talk about his future, but doesn’t intend to let that affect his commitment to the Cavs or the way he approaches the upcoming season.

“I know things come up, you would see certain things or people would ask me and I would just be like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t have a call. Nobody has been having this conversation with me.’ Until that time comes just keep my head down and keep moving.” – he added.

After LeBron James’ departure, Cleveland Cavaliers decided to sign Kevin Love to a four-year, $120 million extension in order to remain competitive in the East. Love, however, managed to play only 22 games, in which he averaged 17.0 points and 10.9 rebounds, as he struggled with a foot injury. This led Cleveland to rethink their strategy and give the opportunity to younger players, which resulted in a third-worst record in the league last season.

Cleveland Cavaliers could really use the help of their All-Star forward Kevin Love, but the 30-year-old is still a long way from returning to court.

Love, who is still recovering from a foot surgery he underwent in November, recently told reporters that he is still “weeks away” from doing on-court work and could be out until after the All-Star break in February.

“I don’t know,” – Love said when asked about his return. “It’s really tough for me to say because I don’t know how my foot is going to respond. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later.”

Although he doesn’t know when he will be back, Love knows that he doesn’t want to sit out the entire season.

“That’s never really been the thought process–at least for me,” – he added. “I want to play. I want to be out there with those guys. I feel like I would be letting my teammates down, and letting (coach) L.D. (Larry Drew) and the coaching staff down if I didn’t get out there and play and get out there and play as soon as I could — so long as I’m healthy.”

After LeBron James left Cleveland to join the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Love decided to remain with the franchise and sign a four-year, $120 million contract extension. He supposed to be a cornerstone for a Cavs’ team that had hopes of getting back to the playoffs even with James not being around. Still, after Love went down with the injury, the Cavaliers started playing atrociously, and currently find themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with 8-32 record, which is the worst in the NBA.

Love played only four games this season, averaging 19.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Although LeBron James is out of town, Cleveland Cavaliers are still not thinking about rebuilding. Cavs just gave their only remaining All-Star Kevin Love a four-year, $120 million extension and showed that they are looking to be at least competitive for several more years.

The extension will kick in at the start of 2019-20 season since Love opted out of the last year of his five-year, $145 million deal signed in the summer of 2015.

I’d like to thank the Cleveland Cavaliers organization, [owner] Dan Gilbert and Koby Altman for having their trust in me and believing in our future,”- said Love during a signing ceremony held at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. “When I got traded here a few years back, I was committed to being here long term and I was committed to our culture, excellence in playing the game of basketball. And I think who we have on our team and who we have moving forward really reflects that.

After losing James in the free agency this summer, Cavs decided to keep the team in the playoff mix and started working on a deal with Kevin Love.

We are very excited to announce Kevin’s long-term commitment to the Cavaliers and Cleveland,” – said Cavs’ general manager Altman in a statement. “This quickly became a partnership the second we began these discussions. Collaboration and winning matter greatly to Kevin and that was reflected in this extension.”

Kevin Love started entered the NBA in 2008 when he was selected fifth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies. He was, however, traded on the draft night to Minnesota Timberwolves in an eight-player deal. After becoming an All-Star player with Timberwolves, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team trade. He won an NBA Championship with the Cavs in 2016.

The biggest upset in the first round of 2018 NBA Playoffs so far was the 98-80 win Indiana Pacers had against the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to the Cavs All-Star forward Kevin Love, this was a wake-up call for his team.

It’s like that sometimes,” – said Love after practice on Tuesday. “Sometimes you need to get hit in the mouth and that will wake you up pretty fast. That will make you pay attention. So we did that, we fought back, gave ourselves a chance, cut the lead down to single digits, but at that point, they just had a ton of confidence. They’re a good team. They’re a really good team, well-coached with guys who do a lot of different things, so we’re going to have to read and react, continue to watch film, see where we can get better and make sure that our coverages are on point.

Although the entire Cleveland Cavaliers team had a bad night on Sunday, Kevin Love especially struggled on the offense. Although the 29-year-old had 17 rebounds, he also ended the game with just nine points. Love recognized the issues he had in the first game and will enter the Game 2 prepared.

I think part of it is on me just to be more aggressive, to get post touches,” – he said. “Sometimes I fall into my own trap of just spacing everybody. That allows other guys to get downhill, Bron to play his game. But I think just mixing it up even when he’s not in the game, getting in the post a little bit more, getting offensive rebounds, getting more touches in there, not even to shoot it in some cases, but just to feel the ball down there and guys to maybe get different looks in two-man game or in second-side action. That’s partially on me too with just coming out and attacking first and being more aggressive.

The problems keep piling up for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Besides playing horrendously in January, they have now lost their second best player on the team. Kevin Love fractured his left hand in the 125-114 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday and will likely be out for six to eight weeks.

The injury occurred few minutes into the first quarter of the game when he made contact with Pistons’ Anthony Tolliver trying to catch a pass from Jeff Green under the basket. He tried to stay on the court for a few more possessions but had to leave the game and head straight to the locker room. The Cavs will provide further information about his injury after additional examination, while Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reports that “need for surgery is still uncertain.” It is worth noting that Love already had a surgery on his left hand in 2009.

It’s just unfortunate for our team,” – said LeBron James after the game. “Obviously with everything [that’s] been going on as of late with our ballclub, just trying to figure out how we’re going to play every night, different lineups and getting everybody into the flow, we don’t need to have Kev go out like that. He’s going to be out for quite a while — maybe two months — so it’s just tough.

So far in the season, Kevin Love has been averaging 17.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

With Love out, the Cavs will have to find a way to overturn their longs stretch of bad games and it will be on newcomers Jae Crowder and Isaiah Thomas to step up their game. Even before Love got injured, the Cavs were looking for a trade to boost their roster, and now they might be even more active on that field.

Cleveland. Thank You. Let’s get it.
