Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant won’t return to action anytime soon. Durant, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, has been ruled out indefinitely, according to his head coach Steve Nash.

While talking to reporters on Wednesday, Nash said that Durant needs to undergo further tests on his hamstring and is potentially looking at a lengthy break.

“We were expecting the potential for this to be a month or whatever it may be,” Nash told the media. “So who knows? Who knows what the scan says? Who knows where this takes us and how soon he’s back?”

Nash added that the Nets would be “very cautious” with Durant moving forward and won’t rush him back until he’s fully ready.

Durant initially missed three games in early February before returning in a 134-117 win over the Golden State Warriors with a 20-point, five-rebound, and six-assist performance.

However, the 31-year-old superstar was shut down again after the game and hasn’t played since. He missed the 2021 All-Star game as well despite being the captain of his team.

After missing the last season with an Achilles tear, Kevin Durant made a triumphant return in 2020-21. He was the Nets’ best player when on the court, averaging 29.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. The issue, however, is that he only managed to play 19 games so far.

Brooklyn can afford to give Durant more time to recover, especially since they have All-Stars Kyrie Irving and James Harden playing at a high level. They are currently second in Eastern Conference with a 24-13 record and one game behind the leading Philadelphia 76ers.

Brooklyn Nets’ superstar Kevin Durant recently decided to put an end to speculations he could return this season. In a chat with ESPN’s The Undefeated, Durant confirmed that he wouldn’t play in 2019/20 even though the end of the season was pushed back several months due to the coronavirus.

Durant was ruled out for the entire season due to an Achilles tendon injury he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals. But because the season will now extend into fall due to the pandemic, many believed that the 31-year-old forward will be ready to return to court and help the Nets make a deep playoff run.

However, although Durant confirmed that his recovery is going as planned, he doesn’t feel ready to handle the intensity of competitive basketball. “It’s just best for me to wait,” Durant said. “I don’t think I’m ready to play that type of intensity right now in the next month. It gives me more time to get ready for next season and the rest of my career.”

Durant confirms that he had already made the decision not to return until 2020/21 and intends to see it through despite the changing circumstances.

“My season is over. I don’t plan on playing at all,” he added. “We decided last summer when it first happened that I was just going to wait until the following season. I had no plans of playing at all this season.”

Many believe that Kevin Durant is making the right move considering that the Nets wouldn’t be a contender at the moment anyway, even with him on the court. Brooklyn doesn’t have a permanent head coach after Kenny Atkinson was released earlier this year, while their second All-Star player Kyrie Irving is out with a knee injury.

In the meantime, Durant decided to use his time away from basketball to explore business opportunities. One of them was investing in soccer, as he recently purchased a stake in MLS side Philadelphia Union.

With the NBA season suspended possibly until summer, rumors recently surfaced that Brooklyn Nets’ superstar Kevin Duran could still find a way to play for his new team in 2019/20. Durant is currently rehabbing from ruptured Achilles tendon and was originally set to miss the entire season.

And while the possibility of Durant’s return certainly sounds exciting, it also doesn’t appear as a likely option. According to Rich Kleiman, Durant’s business partner, the chances of him making a comeback this season are “not very realistic.”

“Honestly, not very realistic from my standpoint, and not even spoken about,” Kleiman commented on these speculations during his appearance on ESPN’s Golic & Wingo.

“It feels like (Durant playing in the 2019-20 season) clearly was not something that was in the cards prior to all this,” he added. “And now, I think just like the rest of the world, it’s hard to take anything more than day by day.”

Kevin Durant’s return this season is also unlikely due to all the major events that shook up the Nets’ organization this season. Brooklyn’s second superstar Kyrie Irving is ruled out for the season after a shoulder injury, while the team also decided to fire their head coach Kenny Atkinson. This is why his comeback in 2020/21 is still the most likely option.

Duran spent the previous three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, helping the team win two NBA titles. He signed a max contract with the Nets in the summer, teaming up with Irving and DeAndre Jordan.
