The Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has responded to Hall of Famer Charles Barkley’s comments about him not being a leader in a recent interview. According to Durant, Barkley and people who question his leadership don’t have the full insight into everything he does “behind the scenes.”

Barkley was making an appearance on TruTV’s alternative broadcast of the All-Star game this past weekend and decided to share his opinion on Durant and his leadership skills.

“No disrespect to Kevin. Kevin’s a follower. He’s not a leader. He’s proven that on all his stops,” Barkley said.

Barkley’s comments have become a hot topic in the NBA in recent days, prompting Durant to address them during an interview with his media platform, Boardroom.

“I don’t feel like I want people to call me a leader, but I also don’t want people to say I’m not one either because they don’t see what goes on behind the scenes of what I talk about or my intentions or relationships that I’ve built with my teammates and my support staff,” Durant said.

Later in the interview, Durant also shared why those like Barkley may view him differently.

I’m not as charismatic as my peers; I don’t have a personality that’s fit for TV like my peers. You’ve got to sell what you’re doing as well, and I haven’t sold it enough,” Durant added.

Durant has been in great form for the Suns this season, averaging 28.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. He earned his 14th All-Star appearance as a result.

Brooklyn Nets’ superstar Kevin Durant recently decided to put an end to speculations he could return this season. In a chat with ESPN’s The Undefeated, Durant confirmed that he wouldn’t play in 2019/20 even though the end of the season was pushed back several months due to the coronavirus.

Durant was ruled out for the entire season due to an Achilles tendon injury he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals. But because the season will now extend into fall due to the pandemic, many believed that the 31-year-old forward will be ready to return to court and help the Nets make a deep playoff run.

However, although Durant confirmed that his recovery is going as planned, he doesn’t feel ready to handle the intensity of competitive basketball. “It’s just best for me to wait,” Durant said. “I don’t think I’m ready to play that type of intensity right now in the next month. It gives me more time to get ready for next season and the rest of my career.”

Durant confirms that he had already made the decision not to return until 2020/21 and intends to see it through despite the changing circumstances.

“My season is over. I don’t plan on playing at all,” he added. “We decided last summer when it first happened that I was just going to wait until the following season. I had no plans of playing at all this season.”

Many believe that Kevin Durant is making the right move considering that the Nets wouldn’t be a contender at the moment anyway, even with him on the court. Brooklyn doesn’t have a permanent head coach after Kenny Atkinson was released earlier this year, while their second All-Star player Kyrie Irving is out with a knee injury.

In the meantime, Durant decided to use his time away from basketball to explore business opportunities. One of them was investing in soccer, as he recently purchased a stake in MLS side Philadelphia Union.

It appears that Kevin Durant made his free agency decision earlier than he needed to. According to Durant, he knew he was leaving the Golden State Warriors midway through the past NBA season.

Durant, who is currently recovering from an Achilles injury, discussed his free agency decision during his recent appearance on Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson’s All the Smoke podcast.

“I knew just about the halfway point through the year,” Durant admitted. “I could feel, you know, the separation between the two. Everybody was just waiting on me to make a decision on free agency — coaches, to my teammates, to the media — it’s like January, and I’m like, ‘Yo, I’m just trying to hoop.”

Still, despite his decision, Durant didn’t change his approach and was hoping he could help Golden State win another championship.

“But I was really focused on the end goal, which was to win the third championship in a row,” he added.

Kevin Durant didn’t manage to reach this goal, as he suffered an Achilles tear in the playoffs, which sidelined him for this season. Despite this, Durant got a max-contract offer from the Brooklyn Nets, where he teamed up with Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan.

Durant won two consecutive NBA titles with the Warriors, while also being the NBA Finals MVP both times. He averaged 26.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game last season.

Draymond Green played a big part in convincing Kevin Durant to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016. And as it turns out, Green also played a role in Durant’s decision to leave the franchise three years later and join the Brooklyn Nets.

Durant, who won’t play this season due to an Achilles injury, made an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, where he discussed several topics, including him leaving Golden State for Brooklyn. At one point, host Stephen A. Smith asked Durant whether the altercation he had with Green last season had something to do with his decision.

“A little bit, yeah for sure,” – Durant responded. “Yeah I mean, your teammate talks to you that way, you think about it a little bit. Definitely, for sure, I’m not going to lie about it.”

Kevin Durant and Draymond Green confronted after losing a game to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first part of the 2018/19 NBA season and were caught on camera yelling at each other. The argument continued in the locker room, and it ended up creating a negative atmosphere around the team. While Durant and Green ended up fixing their relationship, it looks like KD didn’t completely forget this incident.

Elsewhere in the interview, Durant further explained why he left the Warriors, saying he felt like he “needed a switch.”

“I felt like a lot of stuff in Golden State had reared its head,” – he added. “I felt like it was going to be the end no matter what, especially for that group.

Despite everything, Durant’s time with Warriors was highly successful. In three years with the franchise, he helped the team to reach three NBA Finals and win two titles, while also winning two Finals MVP awards.

In a surprising move, Kevin Durant decided to leave Golden State Warriors at the end of June and sign with Brooklyn Nets where he teamed up with All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. Now, in a rare interview with Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Durant revealed the reasons for this somewhat unexpected decision.

“Because I wanted to,” – Durant told Haynes. “The basketball was appealing.”

Through the majority of the past season, Durant was linked with heading to New York Knicks, but as it turns out, they never were an option.

“If I was leaving the Warriors, it was always going to be for the Nets,” – he added. “They got the pieces and a creative front office. I just like what they were building.”

Kevin Durant spent three years with the Warriors, winning two NBA titles in three years. His departure from the franchise, however, ended on a bitter note as he suffered Achilles injury in Game 5 of the NBA Finals series against Toronto Raptors which will cause him to miss the entire next season rehabbing.  Although many think that Durant was talked into playing in the series, despite spending previous two months rehabbing from an ankle sprain, the 30-year-old says that’s not the case.

According to Durant, Golden State did nothing to influence his decision to return to court, and that he wanted to play in that game.

“Nobody was responsible for it. It was just the game.” – Durant explained.

Golden State Warriors’ All-Star Kevin Durant is going to be a free agent once again next summer, and he realizes that this means a lot of questions about his future. While Durant had several different approaches in the past when it comes to free agency, this time he says he will be honest and transparent about the process.

Just be honest,” – Durant told ESPN when asked about the free agency. “I was honest with my decision, but just like outwardly if people ask me about it, don’t be ashamed to talk about why I decided to move teams and switch teams because it’s not the end of the world. I didn’t do anything against the law, you know what I’m saying? That’s what I thought happened the first time.

Kevin Durant caused a big shake-up in NBA in 2016 when he decided to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and sign with Golden State Warriors. Besides the fact that the Warriors had three All-Stars on the team, the element of the surprise was even bigger because Durant didn’t give any indications that he might leave OKC.

If he decides to switch teams once again, his decision will once again create a lot of buzz. But, at the moment, Durant is trying not to think about it and wants to focus on basketball.

I dealt with it before,” – he added. “I just try to be as honest as I can. I’m not going to tell people what I’m thinking. … Some days I think about my free agency, some days I don’t. Some days I think about what my future looks like, some days I don’t. I’m just human. That’s just natural for me. But I can’t sit down and talk to people about it because I want to keep playing, I want to focus on the season.

Since joining the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant won two consecutive NBA title while getting NBA Finals MVP award both times.

You can think anything you want about Kevin Durant, but there is no doubt that he is the second best basketball player in the world right now. His performance in the 2017 NBA Finals and Finals MVP Award should be enough to prove that. Still, there are many who question Kevin Durant’s ability and most of all, loyalty. This is mostly because Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder after eight years and joined the Golden State Warriors who were already a championship contender without him. Speaking for Bleacher Report recently, Durant said that there is no more loyalty in NBA.

Ain’t no such thing [as loyalty],” – Durant said. “You see disloyalty in different ways, but that’s one of the most underrated parts of the game. We scream loyalty, but we don’t expect it from the people writing the checks because they’re writing the checks. [People say] ‘You should be fine with it because you’re getting paid.’ I liked it better when I was naive about the NBA business, how f–ked up it is. That was better for me that way. … You put money and business into something that’s pure, it’s going to f–k it up.

Among other things, Durant also discussed his former team, saying that his former teammates still mean a lot to him, and thinks that he will be on speaking terms with them again.

Those people really mean a lot to me to this day,” – Durant said. “No matter if they talk to me or they’re mad at me. Whether it’s Sam Presti or Troy Weaver or Russell Westbrook or Nick Collison. Whether it’s Wilson Taylor or Clay Bennett and his family, I love them from the bottom of my heart. We’re not talking, but eventually, we will.

Durant added that he was hurt when the OKC gave his old jersey number to the rookie P. J. Dozier but has come to understanding team’s decision.
