Toronto Blue Jays moved a number of their key players at the trade deadline, including Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez, but it turns out that the team had even more business in mind. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Blue Jays also intended moving star closer, Ken Giles.

Rosenthal reports that Blue Jays had advanced talks with New York Yankees about Giles, and had a trade in place which would give them three prospects in return. The team even informed other suitors that the 28-year-old is unavailable as he is going elsewhere.

As it turns out, Yankees ended up backing out of the deal, and Toronto didn’t have enough time to find another trade partner for Giles.

Although Ken Giles will play out the 2019 MLB season in Toronto, it is likely that he will be on the move in the offseason and the Blue Jays are undergoing a rebuild. There is a chance that they could be in for even a better package than the Yankees offered, seeing as Giles has been playing exceptionally since the trade deadline.

Overall, Giles has played 44 games this season and has 2-3 record while posting 2.05 ERA with 73 strikeouts. He also allowed four home runs.
