New England Patriots are making a change at kicker position for the third time this season. The team confirmed on Friday that they have released Nick Folk and signed Kai Forbath as his replacement.

Forbath last played in 2018, when he made three appearances for Jacksonville Jaguars. He converted four out of five field-goal attempts and made all three extra points he took.

Patriots found themselves in a need of a kicker in Week 5, when their longtime kicker Stephen Gostkowski underwent season-ending surgery. They first brought in Mike Nugent, who ended up playing four games before being released following two missed FGs in a game against Cleveland Browns.

New England then replaced Nugent with Folk, who lasted three games in which he went 7-of- 9 on FGs and made all three extra-point attempts. The 35-year-old underwent appendectomy this week, which forced Pats to go on a kickers market once again.

Since entering the league in 2011, Kai Forbath spent time with six different organizations. He stayed with Washington Redskins for the longest, playing there between 2012 and 2015. Forbath attempted 140 FGs in his career, converting 120 of them for 85.7 field goal success rate.
