Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons extended his loyalty to the Denver Broncos by agreeing to a new long-term contract with the franchise.

The Broncos still haven’t made the official announcement, but Simmons already confirmed the news on social media.

According to multiple reports, Simmons inked a four-year deal that keeps him around through 2024. The overall value of the agreement is $61 million, meaning that the 27-year-old player is now the NFL’s highest-paid safety with an average yearly salary of $15.25 million. The previous record was held by the Arizona Cardinals’ Budda Baker, who earns $14.75 million a year.

The deal with Simmons was a top priority for Denver in the offseason, and getting it down will now allow the franchise to make other moves with less pressure on its shoulders. They have not only kept one of their leaders and best performers on the field, but also a player who is beloved by the community and fanbase.

For Simmons, getting a new deal means he will avoid playing on the franchise tag for the second year in a row. He gets long-term security while getting to stay in a familiar system and around the organization he feels comfortable with.

Justin Simmons entered the league as Denver’s third-round pick in 2016. He played 74 games in a Broncos’ jersey, totaling 385 tackles, 37 pass deflections, and 16 interceptions. Simmons earned All-Pro honors in 2019 and was a Pro Bowler in 2020.
