The New York Yankees have not given up on pursuing San Diego Padres’ star outfielder Juan Soto. According to MLB Insider Andy Martino of SNY, the Yankees and Padres recently saw a breakthrough in their talks that included “exchanging” names of the players that could be also included in the trade.

Soto will become a free agent after the 2024 MLB season, and the Padres, looking to cut down on their spending, are unlikely to sign him on a long-term contract. This prompted the organization to field calls from interested teams in order to avoid losing the 25-year-old for nothing next offseason.

The Yankees are believed to be one of the most aggressive suitors, opening exploratory talks with the Padres shortly after the 2023 season ended. The San Diego team’s initial price was believed to be significantly higher than the Yankees were looking to give up, but there is hope that the two sides can get closer in the coming weeks.

Martino reports that the Yankees are aware that Soto would be a one-year rental, but that isn’t discouraging them from making a move for the three-time All-Star. The franchise wants to return to the playoffs after a disappointing campaign and believes Soto would help them do so. It doesn’t hurt that his attractive style of play would bring even more fans to the stands.

Soto finished the 2023 season batting .275 with a career-high 35 homers and 109 RBIs. He earned his third All-Star and fourth-consecutive Silver Slugger Award.

Not long ago, the Washington Nationals claimed that there is nothing that could make them trade their superstar outfielder Juan Soto. But according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Nationals are now sending a different message to the rest of the league.

Rosenthal recently reported that the Nationals changed course on Soto and are now willing to listen to offers for their prized star. The thing that triggered this sudden shift was the fact that the 23-year-old player rejected the team’s most recent contract offer.

Reportedly, Washington presented Soto with a 15-year, $440 million deal last week but it was swiftly rejected. This was despite the fact that it would be the largest deal in MLB history in total value and without deferrals, which was standard practice for the team so far. The issue was probably that the value wasn’t there for Soto in terms of average annual salary, which would be the 20th largest in league history.

There is now a feeling among the Nationals’ brass that the deal can’t be made, which is why the franchise is now moving towards trading Soto. They are expected to speed things up, considering that the sooner they trade the player, the more value they can extract.

Soto, who is a two-time All-Star, is batting .250 with 20 homers and 43 RBIs this season. He is under contract with the Nationals through the 2024 MLB season.

The Washington Nationals would be foolish to trade All-MLB outfielder Juan Soto, right? After all, he’s arguably the Nationals’ best player and one of the best young hitters in the league? Well, it still might happen.

According to ESPN’s Buster Onley, the Nationals might be willing to trade Soto after a recent breakdown in extension talks between the two sides. He adds that most rival executives believe the Nationals will pick up the phone if someone calls about Soto.

However, Washington’s asking price will most certainly be steep and then some. They have Soto under contract through this season and at least two more, so they can sit back and wait for the best offer. And we saw before that teams are willing to mortgage their future just to get a superstar like Soto in the building.

Despite being only 23, Juan Soto already has an impressive resume. He has three All-MLB honors in just four seasons in the majors while also getting selected to the All-Star game and winning two Silver Slugger Awards. Soto’s career stats include a .298 batting average, 105 home runs, and 322 RBIs. When he got his 100th homer earlier this season, he became the youngest to reach the century mark in Nationals’ history.

No team has ever come back from 3-0 in the World Series and the Houston Astros didn’t want to be the first team to try to do that. Behind clutch hitting and great pitching from Zack Greinke and the bullpen, they made winning the series much more doable by putting the series at 2-1.

After leading the majors with 107 wins and putting together one of the most complete teams in baseball history, Houston looked very beatable in Games 1 and 2 with Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander losing at home.

While Houston made a couple of critical fielding errors and couldn’t hit with runners in scoring position in the first 2 games, it was Washington who copied those mistakes in Game 3. Juan Soto, celebrating his 21st birthday, made a couple of defensive miscues, and the Nats went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12.

The Astros scored in 4 different innings behind Michael Brantley’s 2 RBIs and Robinson Chirinos’ home run off the left-field foul pole. They didn’t overpower the Nationals, but the first win in any series is critical, and the 4-1 win is enough to get the team back on track.

After losing the first World Series game in the nation’s capital since 1933, the Nats will look to take a 3-1 series lead behind prized free agent Patrick Corbin who is scheduled to start. The Astros will counter with rookie Jose Urquidy and probably go to their bullpen early in an effort to even up the series and send it back to Houston.

Game 1 matchup of Gerrit Cole vs. Max Scherzer was the much anticipated Fall Classic pitching firepower everyone was looking forward to. Two of the best strikeout pitchers of the decade facing off in the World Series should add up to an exciting pitching duel, but the Nationals got to Gerrit Cole and handed him his first loss since May 22.

Although the Astros struck in the first off a 2 run double by Yuli Gurriel, the Nats came answering back. It was fitting that 35-year-old Ryan Zimmerman hit the first World Series home run in franchise history, while 20-year-old sensation Juan Soto followed up with a homer and 3 RBIs.

Max Scherzer didn’t dominate the Houston offense, but he labored through 5 innings and managed to get the win while only giving up 2 first-inning runs.

The shaky Washington bullpen, the teams biggest concern all year, let up 2 earned runs in relief, and although they had the team on the edge of their seats, the relievers got the job done, including a 4 out save from Sean Doolittle.

With a 19-0 record in his last 25 starts and a minuscule 0.40 ERA in 22 2/3 postseason innings, Cole proved that he is human by letting up 5 earned runs. Houston has no cause for concern, however, as they lost by only 1 run and have co-ace Justin Verlander slotted for Game 2 at home.

For the first 7 innings, the Brewers seemed poised to win the game the way they have been doing all year. It couldn’t have been a better script for manager Craig Counsell as great pitching and a couple of clutch home runs put them up 3-1. Washington seemed to be done for the season as the ball was handed to Josh Hader, one of the top relievers in the game.

After years of losing in the playoffs and not being able to win elimination games at home, Juan Soto and the Nationals finally turned the script around. After Victor Robles struck out swinging to start the 8th, Hader hit pinch-hitter Michael A. Taylor with a ball that also cracked the knob of his bat. After a challenge by the Brewers, the controversial call was upheld.

Trea Turner, who hit a solo home run in the 3rd, then struck out on a high 97 mph fastball from Hader. Only one out away from heading to the 9th with a 3-1 Milwaukee lead, Ryan Zimmerman hit a bloop single and Anthony Rendon walked to load up the bases for Juan Soto.

20-year-old Soto, appearing in his first playoff game, lined a single to right that probably would have scored 2, but the ball got by Trent Grisham and all 3 runs scored easily. Nobody in the stadium seemed to care that Soto was thrown out at 3rd, as the Nats went wild with celebration and took a 4-3 lead.

Daniel Hudson finished off the Brewers in the 9th and the Nats will head to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in the NLDS.
