Veteran third baseman Josh Donaldson seems like he isn’t too eager to get off the free-agent market despite the increased interest in his services. Donaldson entered 2020 as an unsigned player despite recent reports that he has contract offers in the range of $100 million from three MLB teams.

Donaldson had a great season with the Braves, playing 155 games and batting .259 with 37 home runs and 94 RBIs. Entering the offseason, he was considered the second-best third baseman available on the market after Anthony Rendon.

According to MLB Network Mark Feinsand, Donaldson received a four-year, $100 million contract offer from Atlanta Braves, with whom he spent the 2019 season. Minnesota Twins and Washington Nationals have also put the similar offers for the 34-year-old while Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers being in the race as well.

Prior to joining Braves in 2019, Josh Donaldson also played with Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, and Cleveland Indians. He has three All-Star appearances and two Silver Slugger Awards to his name while winning American League MVP back in 2015.

Donaldson’s career stats include .273 batting average, 219 homers, and 645 RBIs.

The Washington Nationals and Patrick Corbin agreed to a six-year, $140 Million Contract on Tuesday, league sources said.

Corbin, 29, was arguably the best free agent this offseason AFTER Clayton Kershaw agreed to renew his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier in November. And numbers show that. Last season, the 29-year-old made 246 strikeouts. He was ranked as MLB’s fourth-best pitcher, three spots behind Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.

For many in the league, Corbin was destined for New York to play for his boyhood club the Yankees. New York certainly could have needed his skills but the two-time all-star opted for the highest bidder.  Philadelphia was also an option for the left-hander but the Nationals were prepared to do what it takes to get Corbin’s signature.

The Nationals had the extra cash thanks to the expiry of Bryce Harper’s, Gio Gonzalez and Matt Wieters’ contracts—freeing more than $62 million in payrolls. Corbin also aided in completing the deal by allowing Washington to defer some of the money in his contract.

Elsewhere, the Atlanta Braves signed Josh Donaldson in a one-year $23 million contract. The New York Mets committed Edwin Diaz and Robinson Cano to their team.

Free-agent third baseman Josh Donaldson signed a one year, $23 million contract with the Braves on Monday despite missing out two-thirds of the 2018 season with shoulder and leg injuries.

Donaldson’s deal is one physical exam away from being finalized and the move could see Atlanta become a World Series contender next season. In 2015, the then Blue Jays player was voted the American League MVP and played in that year’s All-Stars game as a starter.

The third baseman spent the following two years in and out with injuries. His situations worsened in late 2017 and sat out this year’s season for the better part. The 32-year-old logged 33 homers in 2017 and only 52 games last season.

Yet, the Braves are now confident the once fierce slugger could help spur them to the World Series of 2019. Of course, Atlanta are full of talent keeping in mind they are the defending champions in the East. Donaldson will play alongside Johan Camargo in the third. Freddie Freeman will retain his position at first base. Ozzie Albies will remain at second and Dansby Swanson will play at short.

With a contract of only one year, Donaldson is betting on his performance next season. If he turns out to be great, he will be in for a massive pay day in the 2019 offseason. If things don’t work out, he may be forced into early retirement.
