Josh Allen overcame an injury scare to help the Buffalo Bills to a 24-18 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. Allen’s first injury concern came with 11:51 remaining in the second quarter when he was tackled to the ground by linebacker YaYa Diaby. He landed on his right throwing shoulder, yet was able to get back to his feet and shake off the discomfort.

“Took a little, little fall on it and felt a little funky about it, but you know, just trying to keep it warm and keep it loose,” Allen explained after the game. “I’ll be sore for a couple of days, but we’ll be fine.” While backup Kyle Allen was prepped to take his place, the first-choice quarterback was able to continue playing.

Allen’s health is of utmost importance to the Bills and the player has become less involved in rushing as a result. His shoulder was previously injured in the Bills’  14-9 win over the Giants in Week 6 after which he was listed on the injured report.

After leading Buffalo Bills to a 4-0 start in the first four weeks, quarterback Josh Allen became a hot pick for this year’s NFL MVP award. But Allen will now have a tough time remaining in the MVP talks after delivering a struggling display in the 26-17 loss to Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

Allen finished the game against the Chiefs by completing just 14 out of 27 passes attempted while throwing for 157 yards. The 24-year-old Allen did have two touchdowns but tarnished this by having an interception and making costly overthrows.

“We weren’t good enough—I was not good enough,” said Allen after the game. “I got to do a better job, it’s plain and simple, I didn’t play very good tonight. I know that. I understand that. This team can’t afford to have me play poorly.”

After delivering inconsistent performances in the 2018 and 2019 season, it looked like Allen took a step forward this year and will remove any doubts about his status of Bills’ QB of the future. Throughout the first four games in 2020, the University of Wyoming product threw for impressive 1,326 yards while adding 12 touchdowns. He was also completing an impressive 70.9 percent of his passes and had just one INT next to his name.

However, Josh Allen’s game fell apart in Week 5 against Tennessee Titans, when he completed just 63 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions. The outing against Kansas City is arguably even worse, causing the doubts about Allen’s ability to become a factor in the league to surface once again.

Of course, it would be too soon to write off Allen or Bills after just two poor games against Super Bowl contenders. A lot more telling will be the Week 7, when they meet the winless New York Jets.

This could be a perfect chance for Allen to have a bounce-back performance, but also a red alert for Buffalo if he continues to struggle.

There were many people who weren’t too happy with the way Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen played in his rookie season and are already calling him a “bust.” But if you ask Bill’s new wide receiver Cole Beasley, they just didn’t watch enough film on the young QB.

Beasley, who recently joined the Bills on a four-year, $29 million contract, recently  talked about Allen and said that the 22-year-old doesn’t deserve the criticism he receives.

“[I watched the] film. You can see it,” – Beasley said according to NYup.com. “It doesn’t matter what people say. You can tell what a guy’s about by watching him play. I’ve seen clips of him. I’ve seen him do things with his legs and the way he throws the ball. I just want to come here and help him as much as I can.”

According to Beasley, Allen was one of the reasons he chose the Bills in the first place.

“[He’s] a good dude,” – he added. “I love that [he was the first to call]. It’s just the willingness to get better and work. You always can get better no matter what stage you are in your career. I could tell and hear it through the phone that he was hungry and eager to get better. He wants to do this thing the right way and turn this thing around.”

Josh Allen, who was taken seventh overall by Buffalo in 2018 NFL Draft, started the last season as a backup to Nathan Peterman. He quickly assumed the starting QB position after Peterman was benched in Week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens when he posted 0.0 passer rating.

Allen ended up playing 12 games in his rookie season, showing big inconsistency but also flashes of his talent and amazing arm strength. He finished the year completing 52.8 percent of his passes for 2,074 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 631 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

The Buffalo Bills are expected to sign Derek Anderson on Monday as a backup to rookie Josh Allen, who has been the team’s main quarterback this season.

Coach Sean McDermott has been preparing to sign a backup quarterback, and Steelers’ Landry Jones and Anderson were two of his favorite players. The coach is, however, familiar with Anderson, as they both worked for the Carolina Panthers in the past. Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane also worked in North Carolina with the coach and the player.

Before trading Tyrod Taylor to the Browns, McDermott had planned to have Allen, AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman as the team’s quarterbacks. McCarron was injured in the offseason and got traded to the Raiders, leaving the Bills in need of a quality QB.

35-year-old Anderson is a free agent but may have to wait until the Bills make a roster move to create space for him. The Bills need an experienced quarterback, especially one that could also mentor Allen. Anderson is also an accomplished player, having made it to the 2007 Pro Bowler team with 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Apart from the Bills, several teams have paired young quarterbacks with experienced counterparts to increase team depth. The Browns paired Baker Mayfield with Taylor and Drew Santon. The Jets paired youngster Sam Darnold with Josh McCown. The Ravens’ rookie Lamar Jackson will work alongside Joe Flacco and Robert Griffin III.

Although rookie quarterback Josh Allen is undoubtedly the future of Buffalo Bills, he will have to wait a while to get a taste of NFL regular season game. Bills announced on Monday that Allen, seventh overall pick in the 2017 draft, won’t be the team’s Week 1 starter and that Nathan Peterman will take the job instead.

Nate has earned the right,” – said Bills head coach Sean McDermott while speaking to reporters. “I thought his total body of work, all the way back from the spring through the summer and fall camp to this point — he has certainly earned the right.”

Nathan Peterman played exceptionally well in the offseason, completing 33 out of his 41 passes for 431 yards, and managing three touchdowns. But the Bills’ fans won’t be too excited, considering Peterman’s antics last season. The 2017’s fifth-round pick received several opportunities to start for the Bills last season, and he wasn’t able to deal with the pressure. The most memorable feat of Peterman’s 2017 season is Week 11 game against the LA Chargers in which he threw five interceptions in the first half alone and ended up being benched. Maybe things will be different this time?

Josh Allen, on the other hand, showed flashes of his talent in the preseason, but that wasn’t enough to win the starting job. He started the Bills’ third preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals but had a poor showing which included completing 6 of 12 passes for 34 yards while getting sacked five times.

According to coach McDermott, the team is now focused on Allen getting used to the NFL and developing in the right direction.

“Josh is on schedule,” – he said. “I’ve been very pleased with the way he’s developed to this point in time. Listen, you learn a lot from the first game of the regular season, whether you’re playing or not playing when it’s your first time. I can just go back to my first time and being a part of the first game in my career. You learn an awful lot. But that being said, I expect that Josh will be ready to go when his number is called, whenever it is called. That’s his focus right now.
