The Houston Astros are taking a cautious approach in managing star Jose Altuve’s oblique injury. Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Houston’s general manager Dana Brown said that the team wouldn’t rush Altuve’s return to action.

Altuve experienced issues with his oblique during Tuesday’s batting practice. The team decided to sit him out as a precautionary measure and will decide how to progress after getting test results on the injury.

According to Brown, the team doesn’t expect the injury to be a major one, but they intend to give Altuve enough time to recover.

“I don’t think there’s any rush to bring him back,” Brown said on Wednesday. “I’ve talked about this before with the obliques of some of the other players. These injuries are really complicated, and so sometimes the best thing is rest.”

Jose Altuve was limited to only 32 games this season due to a combination of injuries. He is batting .264, his career-worst aside from the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, and has six homers and 18 RBIs.

Despite Altuve’s limited impact in 2023, he is still a leader in the clubhouse and an important player for the Astros. It makes sense for the team to minimize the risk of bigger injury and ensure he is ready to help them during the final stretch of the season.

The Astros are currently second in AL West with a 49-38 record and 2.5 games behind the leading Texas Rangers.

The Houston Astros’ 2020 season looks like it is going to be filled with controversy after the revelation of sign-stealing scandal that rocked baseball during the offseason.

In Houston’s first away game of Spring Training, they got a taste of what is sure to await them throughout the season as the shockwaves from the scandal reverberate throughout the game, frustrating and angering teams and fans alike.

Jose Altuve, one of the stars of the team and a vocal defender of his teammates and the franchise in the wake of the scandal, was booed loudly in Houston’s visit to Joker Marchant Stadium to take on the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon.

Fans cheered loudly when Altuve struck out in his first at-bat, showing how the diminutive second baseman and former MVP has quickly gone from one of the game’s most beloved and respected players to a villain.

The Venezuela native doubled in his second plate appearance, but things got quite interesting the third time he stepped to the plate.

Tigers reliever Nick Ramirez grazed Altuve with a pitch, hitting him on the foot. Many have theorized that teams could exact their revenge on the Astros by hitting them with pitches.

Nothing more came of the incident on Tuesday, but it seems inevitable that this scene will repeat itself throughout the 2020 season every time the Astros show up to the park.

The reigning American League MVP Jose Altuve has successfully negotiated a contract extension with 2017 World Series champions Houston Astros. According to the reports, Altuve got a five-year deal worth around $151 million, becoming the highest paid player in franchise’s history. He also became only the sixth player in MLB history to earn $30 million or more per year.

Altuve previously expressed his desire to stay with the franchise until the end of his career, making the Astros the only organization he played for.

I want to stay here,” – said the 27-year-old in February. “If we talk about the city in Houston, I love the city. If we talk about the fans, I love the fans.

Jose Altuve was among the best Houston Astros players for some time now while playing on a cheap contract. He received a four-year, $12.5 million extension in 2013, which meant he was set to earn $6 million in 2018 and $6.5 in the next season.

I have played four years on my current contract, and obviously I’ve had some success,” – Altuve recently said. “I’m not thinking about it. I don’t think — I don’t know [about] next year. It’s hard to not think about your last year when you are in your last year. But, right now, I’m good.

The money Jose Altuve will receive in the future is well earned. Since his debut in MLB in 2011, he won three batting titles, was five times an All-Star, and became the first player in history to lead the AL in hits for four straight seasons. In 2017, on the road to the World Series title, Altuve had the best batting average in the league with .346. His stats included 204 hits, 24 home runs, and 81 RBIs. Altuve’s career statistics include .316 batting average, 1,250 hits, and 84 home runs.
