Former Green Bay Packers’ wideout Jordy Nelson seems to be enjoying his time away from football. In a recent interview with ESPN Wisconsin, Nelson addressed the rumors about his return and said that he’s “not coming back” to the NFL.

After spending the 2018 season with Oakland Raiders, Nelson signed a one-day contract with Packers last year so he could retire as a member of the franchise. Asked now whether he would consider a comeback, especially with Green Bay needing a wide receiver, the 35-year-old gave a definitive answer.

“We’re not coming back. There’s no doubt about that. We’re done,” Nelson told ESPN Wisconsin.

According to Nelson, he talked about returning to Green Bay with Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers last season, but things didn’t proceed past that.

“I don’t know how serious they got, just because there’s only so much control that we had over it,” he added. “I think (Rodgers) knew deep down that if there was an opportunity right after Oakland, I probably would have (come back). But obviously, it’s not up to us.”

Joining the Packers as a second-round pick in 2008, Jordy Nelson established himself as one of the team’s most dependable receivers during his time with the franchise. During his nine years in Green Bay, Nelson racked up 604 receptions for 8,516 yards and 74 touchdowns while helping the team win Super Bowl XLV. He also has one Pro Bowl appearance while leading the NFL in receiving touchdowns in 2016.

Veteran wide receiver Jordy Nelson is retiring from the NFL after 11 years. Nelson, who spent the majority of his career with Green Bay Packers, was a free agent after Oakland Raiders released him on March 14.

The news about Nelson’s decision was first reported by NFL Network analyst James Jones, who played with him in Green Bay between 2008 and 2013.

“We want to congratulate Jordy on an incredible career that included achievements that will result in his eventual induction in the Packers Hall of Fame,” – said Packers GM Brian Gutekunst in a statement. “He is one of the greatest receivers in franchise history and played a vital role in the team’s success with not only his play on the field but also for what he provided as a great teammate and leader. We wish the best to Jordy, his wife, Emily, and the rest of their family.”

Packers took Jordy Nelson in the second round of 2008 draft, and he went on to establish himself as one of the franchise’s cornerstones while developing a special bond with team’s quarterback Aaron Rodgers. During his 10 years in Green Bay, Nelson had 550 receptions for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns while winning a Super Bowl ring and earning one Pro Bowl appearance. He and Rodgers currently hold Packers’ franchise record for most touchdowns by a receiver-quarterback duo with 65.

Green Bay Packers decided to cut him following 2017 after the two sides failed to find an agreement on a pay cut, so Nelson decided to sign with the Raiders. In his lone year in Oakland, he had 63 receptions for 739 yards and three touchdowns.

Wide receiver Jordy Nelson left the Green Bay Packers after spending 10 years with the franchise and signed a two-year, $14.2 million deal with the Oakland Raiders. Speaking to ESPN Milwaukee on Monday, Nelson decided to reveal the details of this surprising move.

According to the 32-year-old, he had a chance to remain with the Packers before he was released on March 13 but was offered a significant pay cut compared to $10.25 million in salary and bonuses he supposed to make in the last year of his four-year, $39 million. He also added that he considered the pay cut, but after meeting with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst, he felt undesirable in Green Bay.

I think the number was part of it, but also the conversation I had in the meeting,” – said Nelson. “I met with Brian and had a discussion because I had to get a feel for not just the pay cut but what their plans were going forward. After that meeting, there wasn’t, I don’t think, much desire there. I think with the combination of both, we decided what was best for myself and my family [just] as they decided what was best for them and the Packers.”

After being one of Packer’s most reliable wide receivers in the past years, Jordy Nelson saw his performance declining in 2017 season. He ended the season with 53 catches for 482 yards alongside six touchdowns but was convinced that he could help the team in the future.

I think the hurt part was, to be honest, was the unwillingness to try to make it work,” – he added. “But then again, it’s a business, and they have to do what they think is best. What they need to do is to be able to move forward and prepare for the future of the Packers. But I think that was just part of it, but that’s the way it is. I’m definitely not the only one that’s been cut or released when you don’t think it’s going to happen, and it’s not what you want to hear when you go into a meeting with them. But we’ve moved on.

Green Bay Packers fans won’t be seeing quarterback Aaron Rodgers throwing pinpoint passes to his wide receiver Jordy Nelson in the end zone anymore. The Packers have decided to release Nelson on Wednesday, but the 32-year-old didn’t spend a lot of time as a free agent since he agreed on a two-year, $15 million deal with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday. According to ESPN, Nelson’s contract includes $13 million guaranteed.

Jordy Nelson spent 10 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and helped the team to reach eight postseason appearances and a Super Bowl win in 2010 NFL season. During his time with the Packers, Nelson formed a prolific partnership with Aaron Rodgers, and together they set a franchise record for a quarterback-receiver duo with most touchdowns with 65.
Although Nelson started the 2017 NFL season in a great fashion, catching six touchdowns in five games, his production dropped when Rodgers went down with a collarbone injury. He ended up failing to catch a touchdown pass in the next 10 games and ending the season with 482 receiving yards, fewest since 2009.

Aaron Rodgers issued an emotional statement on his Instagram profile following Nelson’s departure.

Hard to find the right words today to express what 87 means to me.” – wrote Rodgers. “No teammate exemplified what it means to be a packer quite like him. From living in GB full time, his incredible contributions to the city, state, and region, to his consistent, reliable play on the field. Definitely a sad day and the toughest part of this business. There will never be another quite like white lightning.

Getting Jordy Nelson didn’t mean Oakland Raiders were done doing business. The team also added running back Doug Martin, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in February. There were also some departures since the Raiders parted ways with wide receiver Michael Crabtree.
