U.S. international striker Jordan Pefok (full name Theoson-Jordan Siebatcheu) will continue his soccer journey in Germany. Pefok’s new club will be Union Berlin, which finished fifth on Bundesliga standings last season and will play UEFA Europa League in 2022-23.

Pefok joins Union after spending the previous two years with Swiss powerhouse Young Boys. The 25-year-old scored 22 goals in the Swiss Super League in 2021-22 and finished as the competition’s top scorer.

The German club confirmed the transfer on Thursday and presented Pefok via video on social media.

Pefok is expected to receive a chance to star in Berlin and further advance his career. He will most likely step into the role of the team’s primary attacking threat after Taiwo Awoniyi’s departure earlier this month.

“Jordan is a striker who will suit us well with the way he plays soccer and who can play in different systems,” said club managing director Oliver Ruhnert. “We’re looking forward to him, his goal threat, and the fact that he has chosen Union.”

Jordan Pefok spent his early career in France, where he played for Reims and Rennes, among other clubs. He initially came to Switzerland on a loan deal but convinced Young Boys to make the move permanent after scoring 15 goals in all competitions in 2020-21. Pefok followed that with 27 goals 2021-22 campaign.

Pefok was born in Washington, D.C., to Cameroonian parents but grew up in France. He initially chose to represent France on the international level, making two appearances for the country’s U21 team. In 2021, he decided to switch his allegiance and commit to the United States men’s national team.

Man United entered the match as an overwhelming favorite and it didn’t take long to show why. Portuguese star forward Cristiano Ronaldo found the net in the 13th minute to give the English club the lead, and it seemed like it would be smooth sailing moving forward. Even when United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off towards the end of the first half, not many people believed the Young Boys had a chance for a comeback.

Still, the Swiss powerhouse soldiered on and took the game to United’s part of the field. This paid off in the 66th minute when winger Nicolas Ngamaleu used a sharp pass from Silvan Hefti to give his side an equalizer.

Young Boys continued to attack well into the stoppage time, but it seemed that Man United would manage to hold on to a draw. But Pefok had other ideas, managing to pick up one loose ball and score a goal with almost no time left on the clock.

This was the fourth Champions League goal for Jordan Pefok this season, counting the qualifiers and seventh overall in 12 games.
