Philadelphia Eagles and wide receiver Jordan Matthews have said their goodbyes for the third time. Eagles announced on Monday that they have released Matthews, parting ways with the veteran just two weeks after they signed him.

Needing some depth for their receiving core, which was depleted by injuries, Eagles decided to turn to a familiar face and bring in Matthews for his third stint with the team. The 27-year-old was a free agent after being released by San Francisco 49ers earlier in the season.

Matthews had a disappointing debut for Eagles, catching just one pass in Week 11 games against New England Patriots. He bounced back with three receptions for 27 yards in Week 12 against Seattle Seahawks, but that obviously wasn’t enough to keep his job.

Jordan Matthews started his career with Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, spending three years with the organization and registering three 800+ yards seasons. Matthews returned to Philly in 2018 for a second stint, recording 20 receptions for 300 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.

Matthews’ release likely means that Eagles are preparing for the return of their starting duo Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor. Both Jeffery and Agholor spend significant time out with injuries in 2019.

Philadelphia Eagles are turning to a familiar face to help their injury-depleted receiving core. According to NFL Networks Ian Rapoport, Eagles have signed wide receiver Jordan Matthews on Wednesday.

Eagles found themselves in need of a WR following the surgery of DeSean Jackson, who will now miss the remainder of the year. Matthews looked like a natural fit, as he wore Eagles’ jersey on two previous occasions.

Matthews started the year with San Francisco 49ers and he ended up being released during the final roster cuts. He was resigned in late October, but played only three snaps before being released once again.

Philadelphia Eagles were Jordan Matthews’ first team in NFL, drafting him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Matthews played three years in Philly before being traded to Buffalo Bills ahead of the 2017 season.

After a poor showing with the Bills and unsuccessful stint with New England Patriots, Matthews returned to Philly in 2018. He ended up having 20 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Jordan Matthews didn’t stick long with the New England Patriots. After signing a one-year, $1 million contract in April, the 26-year-old was released by the Pats on Wednesday after suffering a right hamstring injury. Matthews was injured on Sunday’s practice, and will likely miss the majority of the season.

The Patriots decided to place Matthews on injured reserve first, and then reach an injury settlement with the player, thus allowing him to play for another team if he returns before the season ends.

Before joining Patriots, Jordan Matthews played for Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills. In the 2017 season, he had 25 catches in 10 games for 282 yards and one touchdown. Considering the fact that Pats’ primary wide receiver Julian Edelman will serve a four-game suspension at the beginning of 2018, many people thought Matthews has a shot of earning a more extended stay with New England.

In order to fill the wide receiver position, New England Patriots decided to invite veteran free agent Eric Decker to workouts. Former third-round pick from 2010 NFL Draft by Denver Broncos, Decker also played for New York Jets and Tennessee Titans. He played a total of 111 NFL regular season games, managing 439 catches for 5,816 yards and 53 touchdowns.

It looks like the New England Patriots are getting a badly needed addition to their wide receivers core. After trading away Brandin Cooks to Los Angeles Rams, and losing Danny Amendola in the free agency, the Patriots are now reportedly working on a deal to sign former Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews. According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the Pats have offered Matthews a one-year deal, and the signing should be made official in the upcoming days.

Jordan Matthews spent the 2017 season with the Bills, but due to various injuries, he played only 10 games. The 25-year-old ended the season in December when he decided to undergo surgeries on his right ankle and left knee. He had 25 catches for 282 yards alongside one touchdown, all career lows.

Philadelphia Eagles drafted Jordan Matthews in the 2014 NFL draft with the 42nd pick, after trading up to get him. He played in all 16 games in his rookie season and had 67 catches for 872 yards alongside eight touchdowns. After another good season, Matthews’ form dropped in his third year with the Eagles, so the team decided to send him to Buffalo Bills alongside a third-rounder in exchange for cornerback Ronald Darby.
