Jon Jones has once again reminded the world why he’s considered the best mixed martial fighter in the history of the sport. After not having a single fight in more than three years, Jones walked into the octagon at UFC 285 on Saturday night and took care of the business against Ciryl Gane in the first round to take home UFC’s heavyweight title.

The fight against Gane was Jones’ heavyweight debut, but he sure didn’t seem like he was breaking new ground. He immediately started using his new size to put pressure on Gane and managed to get him in a guillotine. And just like that, the fight was over after two minutes and four seconds.

“I’m so excited,” Jones said after the fight. “I’ve been working for this for a long time. A lot of people thought I wasn’t coming back. I was reading that all the time. But I was faithful to the goal and faithful to the mission.”

Jones will now get some time to enjoy his heavyweight belt, but there will soon be other coming for it. Even before Jones versus Gane fight, the UFC boss Dana White said that whoever wins it would have to defend it against former champion and UFC legend Stipe Miocic.

Jon Jones has been the undisputed UFC Lightheavyweight champion for almost a decade. He won his first belt at UFC 128 in 2011 and never lost it in a fight. Jones vacated the title in 2020 in order to make a move to heavyweight. After Gane fight, Jones now has a 27-1 record and is on an 18-win streak.

Jon ‘Bones’ Jones successfully reclaimed the light heavyweight title after a lengthy absence with a defeat over Swedish Alexander Gustafsson Sunday morning.

Jones came into the fight amidst media scrutiny over a failed drug test that forced the bout be relocated from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. He survived all the talk—and in the ring, proved why some consider him the greatest UFC fighter of all time.

The Swede started on a high note, throwing elbows and punches that left Jones defending more than he attacked. In the third round, the American took control of the fight. He took his opponent down, rained elbows and punches on him until referee Mike Beltran ended the bout as a TKO.

Sunday’s UFC 232 fight was a rematch of the famous 2013 bout in which Jones won. This time round, both opponent entered the ring after long periods without action. But at the end of the fight, the favorite to win emerged victorious.

After the win, Jones was quick to call out his long-term rival Daniel Cormier for a fight, including mocking him for relinquishing the title.

United States Anti-Doping Agency spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the B Sample of UFC’s light heavyweight champion Jon Jones came back positive. Drug test occurred on July 28 in Anaheim, California prior to UFC 214. On the event, Jones reclaimed the title. After it was reported in August that the A sample contained anabolic steroid called Turinabol, Jones hoped that the B sample will clear him out. However, B sample rarely provides different results than the A sample.

“Mr. Jones ‘B’ sample has confirmed the ‘A’ sample findings. Importantly — as previously stated — due process should occur before drawing any conclusions about this matter.” – the USADA’s spokesperson said.

Jones denied taking the substance and his team is currently investigating how the substance entered his system. Jones received support from some of his teammates, including Frank Lester who wrote on his social media account the following: “This is a set up, straight up, no athlete would test clean his entire fight camp, and then randomly take some cheap f—king oral steroid between weigh-ins and fight night knowing he would be tested once he got done fighting. This is a straight set up. They are trying to ruin this kids life.”

Because Jones’ B sample came positive, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) took his win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 and turned it to no-contest. UFC still didn’t make a decision to strip the title of light heavyweight champion from Jones, but that should be expected soon. Since this is a second time Jones has been tested positive for banned substances, he could face a maximum of 4 years suspension. Last year, he was positive for Letrozole and Clomiphene, which caused him to pull out from UFC 200, and get 1-year suspension while being stripped of his title. Jones claimed that these substances came from a sexual enhancement pill.

UFC released a statement on Tuesday saying that “UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Jon Jones of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an in-competition sample collected following his weigh-in on July 28, 2017.“

According to TMZ sources, Jones was positive for an anabolic steroid called Turinabol. Although UFC president Dana White said Jones isn’t stripped of the title, that looks imminent. Jones’ camp issued an official statement that you can read in full below.

“We are all at a complete loss for words right now. Jon, his trainers, his nutritionists and his entire camp have worked tirelessly and meticulously the past 12 months to avoid this exact situation.
