According to reports around the league, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross has asked the team for a trade as the Week 8 trade deadline approaches.

Ross will become a free agent after the 2020 season, but reports claim that he would rather go to a different team and have a fresh start with a different organization before hitting free agency.

Ross hasn’t been getting much playing time or many targets this season with the Bengals. He only has two receptions for 17 yards through six weeks.

Ross was supposed to be the speedy deep threat that rookie quarterback Joe Burrow was going to rely on in his first season, but that role has been given to rookie Tee Higgins.

Ross was picked in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Bengals after becoming a star at the NFL combine by posting a blazing 4.22 second 40 time, the fastest ever by an NFL prospect.

However, he hasn’t been able to stay healthy and on the field, which is why the Bengals declined his fifth-year option earlier this year.

At this point, the Bengals probably won’t be able to get much for Ross in a trade but could look to get at least a conditional late-round pick instead of allowing him to walk for nothing in free agency.

The Cincinnati Bengals, who are off to a miserable 0-4 start to the 2019 NFL season, got some discouraging news on Tuesday after their Monday Night Football loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wide receiver John Ross, who has been one of the few bright spots in Cincinnati’s poor start to the season, is set to miss a few games after injuring his right shoulder in the 27-3 loss.

Ross was tackled by Steelers cornerback Joe Haden after making a first down reception in the fourth quarter of the game. He was forced to leave after landing hard on his right shoulder, finishing the night with only 3 passes caught for a total of 36 yards.

The Washington alum has gotten off to the best start of his career, catching 16 balls for 328 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first four games of the year. In fact, his yardage total this season has already eclipsed the marks he had set in the first two disappointing seasons of his career, both of which were marred by injury.

The former #9 overall pick in the 2017 Draft has missed time earlier in his career with a left shoulder injury and a groin strain.

While the team has not officially released a timetable for Ross’s return, they hope to have him back for the month of November according to reports.
