The number of firings in the NFL is on the rise as the end of the 2018 regular season nears. The latest team to make a personal shakeup are the Minnesota Vikings, who decided to let offensive coordinator John DeFilippo go. The move was made after Monday night’s 7-21 loss against the Seattle Seahawks, which put 6-6-1 Vikings in the danger of missing the playoffs.

Kevin Stefanski, who served as the team’s quarterbacks coach, will assume the interim OC duty and handle the play calling.

After DeFilippo’s firing, Minnesota’s head coach Mike Zimmer addressed the media via conference call and said that the decision was made after he felt the team’s offense didn’t make enough progress in the recent weeks.

“I don’t want the season to be wasted now,” – Zimmer told the reporters. “Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. But these three games are very, very critical and we need to play good.”

“I just felt it was in the best interest of our team to make this move now,” – he added.

John DeFilippo started his NFL coaching career with the New York Giants in 2005, serving as an offensive quality control coach. He then served as a quarterbacks coach with the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets, before getting a shot to be an OC for the Cleveland Browns in 2015.

DeFillippo ended up spending just one year in Cleveland, before joining Philadelphia Eagles as a QB coach. He took the OC job with the Vikings in February, four days after winning Super Bowl LII with the Eagles.
