Carolina Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera is putting pressure on his struggling kicker Joey Slye. Rivera told reporters on Monday that the team might work out other kickers after Slye’s misses cost them the win against New Orleans Saints in Week 12.

Slye missed two extra points against Saints but earned a chance to redeem himself with 1:56 left in the game. The result was 31-31 and Carolina managed to secure a favorable 28-yard field goal attempt which would give them the lead.

Slye cracked under pressure and ended up missing the field goal turning the ball over to New Orleans. Saints quickly marched down the field and set up an FG for their kicker Wil Lutz, who converted and gave his team a win.

After the game, Rivera was asked whether the Panthers will bring another kicker. 

”Those are things that we are certainly going to discuss,” said Rivera. ”It’s about doing your job and Joey is well aware of that. It’s something that we’re going to talk about.”

After going undrafted in 2018, Joey Slye earned the spot of Carolina Panthers’ starting kicker following a season-ending injury of starter Graham Gano. Slye had a big start of 2019, converting 10 out of 11 field goals, with five of them being 50+ yards. Since then, however, he only hit nine of 15 FGs while missing an alarming four PATs.
