The Philadelphia Phillies, according to sources, have found the man that they believe is right to lead them back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Philadelphia hired veteran manager Joe Girardi, who spent one year managing the Florida Marlins before managing the New York Yankees for a decade, as their new manager according to multiple media reports on Wednesday.

The Phillies, who dismissed former manager Gabe Kapler at the season’s end after only two seasons on the job, opted for the safe choice. Girardi is an experienced manager who has spent decades in the Majors as both a player and a manager, and he will now take his veteran know-how to the City of Brotherly Love.

The terms of Girardi’s contract were not immediately made available, but the organization is expected to announce more information about the specifics of the hiring over the next couple of days.

Girardi was highly successful with the Yankees, winning one World Series title in 2009, and making six playoff appearances during his decade at the helm. His career managerial record stands at a respectable 988-794.

Girardi will now be tasked with leading a talented team that has underachieved recently back to the glory that it has been unable to find for the better part of the past ten years.

After a beginning to the baseball offseason which has been full of managerial turnover, former Yankees manager Joe Girardi has seen the writing on the wall and is expected to pursue one of the several vacancies in the league.

He decided this week to leave his current job as the manager of the Team USA baseball team in order to focus on his pursuit of an MLB managerial position during this offseason.

Scott Brosius, formerly of the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees, has been tabbed as his replacement in Olympic qualifying.

Girardi took over the position as Team USA manager on August 9th after spending the 2018 season out of coaching.

The former MLB catcher spent ten seasons at the helm of the New York Yankees prior to his Team USA gig, taking over for managerial legend Joe Torre for the 2008 season. He had spent the previous season managing the Florida Marlins

Girardi accumulated a 910-710 record in ten seasons as Yankees manager, winning three AL East titles, three Wild Card berths, and one World Series title in 2009.

The 55-year-old has been speculated as a possible hiring for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, among other teams.

Former New York Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi is ready to get back into the game. Girardi, who currently works as an MLB analyst, recently expressed interest in filling the vacant managerial role for the Chicago Cubs.

Cubs decided to move on from Joe Maddon after this season, and are currently making a list of potential candidates they will consider for the job. While the team’s former catcher David Ross emerged as a favorite in recent days, Girardi is letting the organization know that he would be up for the challenge as well.

“Any manager that has managed would love to come to Chicago. It’s always been perceived as a good job,” – said Girardi in a recent interview with NBC Sports Chicago. “A big reason is because of the fans and the opportunity to work at Wrigley Field all the time, and the excitement Cubs fans have brought for many many years.”

This isn’t the first time that Joe Girardi is in the race for Chicago Cubs’ managerial position. He first interviewed for the job in 2006, but the Cubs decide to go with Lou Piniella. Then in 2013, Girardi was also in consideration, but opted to sign an extension with the Yankees.

So far in his managerial career, Girardi worked with Marlins and Yankees. He won NL Manager of the Year award for his work with Marlins in 2006 and has a World Series championship with Yankees from 2009.

Former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is getting a lot of job calls lately, but he isn’t keen on taking them if they are not coming from Chicago. According to Fancred’s Jon Heyman, Girardi has recently decided to turn down opportunities to manage Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers and is waiting for a job opening at one of Chicago teams, either White Sox or Cubs.

There is no guarantee that Joe Girardi might get the opportunity he is looking for anytime soon. Chicago White Sox have only hired their current manager Rick Renteria in 2017, giving him a three-year contract. Renteria’s start in Chicago was shaky, and the team missed playoffs in both seasons he was a manager, but White Sox might have a bit more patience with them considering they are rebuilding.

Chicago Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon also has one more year left on his contract, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he gets an extension soon. Cubs are playing good baseball under Maddon, and he even managed to lead them to World Series victory two years ago. This is reportedly the team Girardi wants more, since he played for the organization at the start of his professional career, but one he will have fewer chances of getting.

After a short stint with the Florida Marlins in 2006, Joe Girardi took over the New York Yankees in 2008 and managed to win World Series title just a year after that. The rest of his time in New York was filled with ups and downs, and the Yankees decided not to extend his contract following the end of the 2017 season. Girardi’s managerial record is 988 wins and 794 losses.

The New York Yankees have recently made a decision  that they won’t bring back Joe Girardi and will enter the 2018 MLB season with a new manager. Obviously, that came as a surprise to many, especially to Girardi himself. Now, in his first interview after the Yankees’ decision, Girardi said the news left him “surprised” and “disappointed” since he wanted to finish the job he started with the team.

It was fairly quick,” – Girardi said to The Athletic. “Brian told me as an organization they had decided to go in a different direction. We talked for a few minutes and we talked later on for a little bit longer. For me, there was disappointment because I kind of wanted to finish what we had started this year. And I was looking forward to the growth of the organization, the young players, the more young players with the veterans we had.”

Asked what about his post Yankees plans, Girardi said that he is open to taking another managing job, but wouldn’t have anything against working in MLB operations or returning to TV.

I truly love this game — the strategy of the game, the relationships in the game, the passion I have for getting the most out of people,” – he said. “I want everyone who has an opportunity to be able to experience what I’ve experienced in this game, all the good things that have happened to me because of this game.

After a successful playing career with the team, Joe Girardi spent last 10 years as a manager of the New York Yankees. During his managerial tenure, the Yankees had six playoff appearances and won the World Series in 2009. This season, Girardi led the Yankees to the 91–71 record and American League Championship Series where they narrowly missed out on the World Series appearance.

The New York Yankees have announced on Thursday that their current manager Joe Girardi won’t return for the next season. The team confirmed this news on their official Twitter profile.

According to the ESPN’s sources, general manager Brian Cashman was the one to recommend the manager change to the Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner. Still, Cashman was full of respect for Girardi in his statement to the media.

I want to thank Joe for his 10 years of hard work and service to this organization,” Cashman said. “Everything this organization does is done with careful and thorough consideration, and we’ve decided to pursue alternatives for the managerial position. As Hal Steinbrenner and I mentioned to Joe directly this week, he has been a tremendous Yankee on the field and away from it, as a player, coach, and manager. He has a tireless work ethic, and put his heart into every game he managed over the last decade. He should take great pride in our accomplishments during his tenure, and I wish Joe and his family nothing but success and happiness in the future.

Joe Girardi served the final year of his 4-year, $16 million contract. This season, he lead the Yankees to the American League Championship Series, where they faced Houston Astros. In a 7 game series, Yankees narrowly missed out on participating in the World Series.
Girardi had a successful career as a baseball player, playing catcher for five teams winning the World Series three times with the Yankees. He began his managerial career with the Florida Marlins in 2006, leading the team to 78–84 record and winning the NL Manager of the Year award. Despite success, he was fired by the Marlins in the same year. Girardi became Yankees manager in 2008, and since then won one World Series and made the playoffs six times.
