Baltimore Ravens are officially Lamar Jackson’s team moving forward. According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Ravens have agreed to trade quarterback Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos, clearing the way for Jackson to retain his place as the starting quarterback.

Since no deal can be processed on March 13th, when the new NFL season officially kicks off, neither teams can’t make a confirmation or comment on the terms of the deal. According to sources, however, Broncos will send a mid-round pick to Broncos in exchange for Flacco.

For the Ravens, this trade means that they are fully committed to Lamar Jackson as their franchise’s quarterback. Jackson, who was 32nd pick in 2018 NFL Draft, stepped in for Joe Flacco in Week 9 and turned around the team’s season leading Baltimore to an unexpected playoff appearance. After this, the Ravens decided to move on from Flacco, who was struggling with production in recent years.

Denver Broncos, on the other hand, are admitting that their experiment with Case Keenum has failed. Broncos signed Keenum to a two-year, $36 million contract in 2018 after his productive season with Minnesota Vikings. Still, the 30-year-old was unable to replicate the same level of play in Denver and ended up tied for second-most interceptions in the league.

Joe Flacco spent his entire career with the Baltimore Ravens, who selected him 18th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was named the team’s starting quarterback in his rookie season when he led them to AFC Championship Game. During his 10 years with the franchise, Flacco added five more playoff trips while leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl win in 2012.

The 2018 NFL season didn’t turn out the best for Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco. After being injured in early November, the 33-year-old was forced to sit out a couple of games with rookie Lamar Jackson taking over at QB. After he recovered from the injury, however, Flacco remained on the bench because Ravens’ managed to put on a great stretch of games under Jackson and get into playoffs.

Now, as Baltimore is preparing to face Los Angeles Chargers in a wild-card game on Sunday, Joe Flacco finds himself being a backup just six years after leading his team to a Super Bowl Championship and he isn’t thrilled about it.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be any more different or not,” – Flacco told the reporters when asked how different it is not being the main guy entering the playoffs for the first time in his NFL career. “It’s definitely not the most fun position in the world. It is what it is.”

It is expected that Baltimore Ravens will move on from Flacco in the offseason, which could mean that Sunday’s game might be his last at home as the member of the organization.

“I haven’t really thought too much about it, to be honest with you. It is what it is,” – he said. “We’re a No. 4 seed. There’s always a possibility that in the final round before the Super Bowl you can come back here. So you never know.”

During his 11 seasons in Baltimore, Joe Flacco played 163 regular season games in which he completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 38,245 yards and 212 touchdowns. In 15 postseason games, Flacco had a completion percentage of 56.6, passing for 3,233 yards and 25 touchdowns.
