Joaquin Torres’ good performances during the 2021 season has convinced CF Montreal that the Argentine winger deserves a permanent stay at the club. The MLS side confirmed on Thursday that they have exercised their option to acquire Torres on a permanent deal. The 24-year-old was previously on loan from Newell’s Old Boys.

According to Montreal, Torres has signed a two-year deal that runs through the 2023 MLS season. The agreement also has club options for 2024 and 2025.

Newell’s Old Boys were the ones to reveal the financial details of the deal. According to the Argentine club, Montreal has paid $350K in order to make Torres’ move permanent.  Newell’s will also get 10 percent from any future fee.

Joaquin Torres has become one of the most important players for Montreal since arriving at the club in February. He played 24 games in 2021, scoring four goals and adding six assists.

“We are happy with what he has done so far this season, and we are confident for the future. He is a player who is motivated to be in Montreal, and he feels good at the Club,” said Montreal’s sporting director Olivier Renard in a statement.
