Green Bay Packers won’t be giving tight end Jimmy Graham another chance to prove himself. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Packers plan to cut Graham by the end of the week.

Graham signed a three-year, $30 million contract with Packers in 2018, but ended up having a disappointing season. Green Bay reportedly thought about cutting him last offseason before deciding to give him another year.

Graham responded with even more underwhelming campaign in 2019, catching only 38 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns. Considering that he would have the second-biggest cap hit in NFL in 2020 with $11.6 million, Packs opted to move on from him and get a fresh start.

Following the reports about his release, Jimmy Graham went on Twitter and shared some words about his time in Green Bay.

With Graham out of the door, Green Bay Packers will free up $8 million in the salary cap. They are expected to invest this (and a bit more) in order to try and land his replacement in free agency. So far, Atlanta Falcons’ standout Austin Hooper emerged as the most mentioned name according to reports.

Hooper, who has Pro Bowl appearances in the last two years, will is set to become a free agent after Falcons opted to let him test the market. The 25-year-old had 75 receptions for 787 yards and six TDs last season.

Green Bay Packers hoped that tight end Jimmy Graham will be a versatile offensive weapon when they signed him for a three-year, $30 million contract back in 2018. Things didn’t turn out that way, as Graham underperformed last season and was even on the brink of being cut by the team. Still, the 32-year-old will be given another chance in Green Bay, and it looks like he intends to make the most of it.

Speaking with told Kelly Price of NBC 26 Green Bay on Sunday, Graham admitted that he didn’t have a good year in 2018 and that he needs to get better.

“Obviously last year was disappointing for everybody. I’m not used to losing. I don’t think anybody here is, you know?” – said Graham. “And for me, it was not a good year. I’m completely focused on putting my best foot forward and being the player that I am: Scoring in the red zone and being that big threat on third down. I mean, I gotta get back to that. And I take it serious. It’s something that eats at me every single day, not making the playoffs and sometimes not making the plays that I should have. So you better believe I’m gonna be ready.”

After catching just 55 passes for 636 yards and two touchdowns in his first season with the Packers, Graham wishes to show that he “still can run” and aims to “prove a lot of people wrong” in 2019.

“I mean we all have our ups and downs,” – he added. “Obviously there was a lot going on last year for all of us in the building. But all that’s in the past. I know the player that I am and I know I still have juice, I know I still can run. I’m gonna go prove a lot of people wrong.”

Graham, who also played with New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks, has 611 caught passes for 7,436 yards and 71 TDs over the course of his career. His career highlights also include five Pro Bowls and First-Team All-Pro appearance.

After he had an underwhelming 2018 season, it looked like tight end Jimmy Graham is poised to leave the Green Bay Packers after just one season. However, things have changed in the recent weeks, and now it appears that Graham will have a chance to redeem himself in 2019.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapaport, Packers will enter the offseason having Graham in their plans, and they intend to pay his $5 million roster bonus in March.

Jimmy Graham joined Green Bay last offseason and was one of the team’s marquee free agent signings. He supposed to fill the team’s need on the tight end position, but the 32-year-old failed to make an immediate impact. Graham played all 16 games, but only caught 55 passes for 636 yards and two touchdowns.

These bad performances caused analysts to believe that Packers will release Graham in the offseason, saving themselves close to $6 million in cap space. However, it appears that the Packers’ new coach Matt LaFleur thinks otherwise and is willing to give the player another chance.

After being selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, Jimmy Graham quickly established himself as a Pro-Bowl tight end. Besides leading NFL in touchdown receptions in 2013, he also had three Pro-Bowl appearances and one First-team All-Pro selection during his five years with the organization.

In 2015, Graham was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, where he continued with his exceptional performances, adding two more Pro Bowl appearances. His career stats include 611 caught passes, 7,436 receiving yards and 71 receiving touchdowns.
