San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has a new look on the ACL injury that limited him to just three games in 2018. According to Garoppolo, his injury was “blessing in disguise” as it enabled 49ers to get Pro Bowl pass rusher Nick Bosa.

The 2018 season supposed to be Garropolo’s first as a full-time starter, but he ended up tearing his ACL in Week 3, which ruled him out for the season. In his absence, San Francisco struggled and finished the year with 4-12 record, which got them the No.2 overall pick in 2019 NFL Draft. The team used it to draft Bosa, who had an immediate impact on the team in his rookie season.

Bosa finished this regular season as a Pro Bowler and PFWA Rookie of the Year, tallying 47 tackles, 9.0 sacks, and one interception. Seeing this big contribution of the young defensive end for his team, Garoppolo doesn’t have so many regrets about the time he missed in 2018.

“Things have a way of working out,” said Garoppolo during a press conference on Wednesday. “I always told myself it was a blessing in disguise, the ACL.”

“We got (Nick) Bosa out of it. That’s a pretty good trade-off, I guess. But yeah, things have a way of working out I guess. This ride is crazy,” he added.

With Jimmy Garoppolo healthy, 49ers managed to put together an impressive season in which they won the NFC West with 13-3 record that also got them the No.1 seed in their conference. 49ers will now face Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game after previously beating Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round.

San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looks to be on the right track recovering from an ACL injury that cost him the majority of 2018 season, is looking good. Although he wasn’t able to take a full part in 49er’s offseason programs so far, Garoppolo expects to be ready once the team’s training kicks off on July 26.

“I’m sure hoping so,” – Garoppolo told Pro Football Talk when asked whether he will be ready for training camp. “The training staff, the coaches, we’ve kind of put together a plan and everything like that. We’ll kind of assess the situation as we get closer to it.

“I’m good to go. Finally.” – he added.

After leading San Francisco 49ers to five wins in just as many starts in 2017, Jimmy Garoppolo signed a massive $137.5 million extension with the team during the 2018 offseason. He was expected to bring back 49ers to the playoffs in his first full year with the team, but things took a bad turn when he tore his ACL during Week 3 game against Kansas City Chiefs. Garoppolo was sidelined for the rest of the season, finishing the year with 718 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Without Garoppolo, 49ers went on to post 3-10 record and end the season third in the NFC West.

Since coming into the league, Garoppolo played in 26 games (10 as a starter) with New England Patriots and 49ers. His career statistics include 65.4 percent pass completion for 2,968 yards and 17 touchdowns.

While we already knew for some time that San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has torn his ACL and won’t be playing football anymore this season, now we have the official confirmation. 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Garoppolo underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee on Wednesday morning.

Shanahan didn’t reveal any further details about the procedure and couldn’t give a time frame about Garoppolo’s return to the field.

It’s way too early,” – said Shanahan. “When he wakes up and I talk to the doctors who did it, we’ll get some clarity.

Sources close to 49ers, however, say that the 26-year-old will be out at least seven to nine months. He will join running back Jerick McKinnon, who also tore his ACL in the preseason and is looking towards a lengthy recovery.

Jimmy Garoppolo joined the San Francisco 49ers in October 2017, who sent a second round pick to New England Patriots in order to get him. He had five starts in 2017 season, winning in all five games and ending the year with 1,560 passing yards and seven touchdowns. In the offseason, 49ers signed Garoppolo to a five-year, $137.5 million extension, making him the highest paid player on an annual basis at the time.

In three games he played in 2018, Garoppolo completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns. After his injury, 49ers’ turned to backup C.J. Beathard, who passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s loss against the LA Chargers, which brought down San Francisco’s record to 1-3.

Things don’t look good for the San Francisco 49ers after Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. They did not only lose the game 27-38, but there is a possibility that they have lost their quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the rest of the season.

Late in the fourth quarter, the 26-year-old made a 13-yard run down the left sideline before meeting the Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson. While Garoppolo had a chance to step out of bounds earlier, he extended the run for a few moments and took an awkward step before ramming into Nelson.

Soon after the play, Jimmy Garoppolo left the game and did not return. According to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, the team is afraid that Garoppolo tore his ACL.

With Jimmy, we’re fearing ACL. We’ll find out tomorrow. I haven’t had a chance to talk to him yet. I feel for him.” – said Shanahan after the game.

Garoppolo will undergo further tests on Monday to know the extent of his injury. But the 49ers are already preparing for the worst.

Anytime you lose your starting quarterback, that is a big deal,” – Shanahan added. “It was when we lost our starting running back [Jerick McKinnon] too. So obviously, I feel for him personally. I know how disappointed he is. I haven’t got a chance to see him yet. I feel for him.

With Jimmy Garoppolo out, the third-round pick from 2017, C.J. Beathard, will most likely step in as a starting quarterback. Beathard played seven games in his rookie season, passing for 1,430 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions.
