Free agent running back Dalvin Cook is set to become a New York Jets player, sources familiar with the matter confirmed early Tuesday morning. The 28-year-old player is expected to sign a one-year contract worth $8.6 million.

Cook was released from the Minnesota Vikings on June 8 after spending four straight Pro Bowl seasons with the team. The Jets pounced on Cook’s availability soon after, with coach Robert Saleh recently admitting, “Obviously, you don’t want to say no to a great player.”

In addition to being a talented and experienced option, the running back provides the Jets with some much-needed depth as number one choice back Breece Hall continues to be eased back into action upon recovering from ACL surgery. While the Jets are optimistic about Hall’s availability for the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills, time is running out as he remains on the PUP list.

New York received the funds they need for Cook’s arrival when Aaron Rodgers agreed to take a $35 million pay cut. Cook is also a capable playmaker who could form a strong partnership with Rodger, boosting the Jets’ creative options.

The New York Jets are confident that Zach Wilson has avoided a season-ending injury ahead of the quarterback’s MRI exam on Saturday. Wilson appeared to injure his right knee while participating in the second offensive series during the preseason when his knee buckled as he scrambled out of the pocket. Following this non-contact injury, Wilson limped off to the locker room, unable to continue.

Ahead of Wilson’s scheduled MRI, coach Robert Saleh remained mostly untalkative when asked about Wilson’s injury, except to say that Wilson’s ACL is “supposed to be intact”. Early indications suggest that he may have reinjured his right PCL; a sprain that forced him out of action for four weeks last season.

Having won their preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21, the Jets remain unsure about Wilson’s return date. “I’m going to let the MRI play out and we’ll figure it out [Saturday],” Saleh commented after the game.

Should Wilson remain out of action, the Jets have three potential replacements at quarterback – Joe Flacco, Mike White and Chris Streveler. Flacco is widely expected to be the first-choice replacement, with Saleh remarking, “You guys know how I feel about Joe. Everyone does, the whole world knows. Joe is a phenomenal football player. The New York Jets are mixing it up at the quarterback position once again. According to the team’s head coach Robert Saleh, veteran Joe Flacco will start under center for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. This will mark the third different starter for the Jets in 2021.

The Jets opened the season with rookie Zach Wilson handling the starting duties. The 2021’s second overall pick got hurt in Week 7, which allowed fourth-year player Mike White to take over. White impressed on several occasions, most notably in 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but had an ugly outing last week that saw him throw four picks in a 17-45 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

During a chat with reporters on Wednesday, Saleh insisted that White isn’t being demoted due to poor performance against the Bills. Instead, he believes that Flacco’s experience will give the Jets a better chance against the blitz-heavy Dolphins defense.

“Joe’s got a history,” Saleh said via. “He’s in the record books all over the place. He’s a world champion, so he’s got a history of playing good ball. One drive didn’t solidify anything; it’s his history more than anything. He’s seen these type of defenses many times over.”

Flacco joined the Jets in late October, arriving in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. He saw his first action in 2021 against the Bills, stepping up in the fourth quarter and completing all three passes he attempted while throwing for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Speaking about his chance to start a game again for the first time in almost a year, Flacco said that he wants to prove that he still belongs in this league.

“When you’re a backup, and you get traded, all kinds of things run through your head,” he added. “You want to play. Not only that, but you want to prove again to yourself that you can play. A lot of emotions come up.”

At a star-studded event in Manhattan on Thursday night, the New York Jets revealed their new uniforms. This wardrobe change marks the first time that the Jets will don new uniforms in over two decades, since 1998.

The Jets revealed three jerseys and three pants that are all interchangeable and all come in white, green, and black.

In addition, the Jets have debuted a new helmet that replaces the old green on white one that they used to wear. This time, the Jets will wear a green helmet with white lettering featuring their logo.

The franchise also debuted a slightly-altered logo that modernizes and makes the old version sleeker.

The uniform redesign was carried out by Nike, whose signature touch for the uniform was to introduce a shade of green known as “Gotham Green” that they help will be the Jets’ defining color.

The new jerseys, pants, and helmets were modeled at the event by current Jets players. The list of models included quarterback Sam Darnold, safety Jamal Adams, and wide receiver Quincy Enunwa.

Darnold was candid in his evaluation of the new threads, stating that “If we don’t play well, the uniforms are going to look crummy. If we play well, they’re going to look awesome.”

The uniform redesign is part of the Jets’ new invigorated vibe. Several roster changes and a new head coach have the team looking very different heading into the 2019 season.

After a truly bizarre 2018 season, running back Le’Veon Bell has finally found a home in the NFL.

Bell was let go by the Pittsburgh Steelers and let go earlier this month after refusing to play in 2018 after a contract feud that let to him missing the entire season.

The New York Jets agreed to a 4-year, $52.5 million contract with Bell on Wednesday. The agreement between the two parties will give Bell $35 million guaranteed, and the contract could be worth over $60 million if he fulfills incentive clauses.

Bell was considered one of the top running backs in the league before sitting out 2018.

The Michigan State alum was a first-team All Pro selection twice with Pittsburgh, in 2014 and 2017. He was also named a second-team All Pro in 2016.

Bell was given these accolades due to his fantastic performances with the Steelers. He set the Steelers’ franchise record with an 86.3 yard per game average and scored 42 rushing and receiving touchdowns in his four years wearing the black and gold.

Now, Bell will join a young New York Jets team that was one of the worst in the NFL last season.

The Jets hope that Bell will help their offense improve and lead them into playoff contention for the first time in several years.
