Veteran guard Jeremy Lin is going to China. After failing to land a contract with an NBA team, Lin decided to sign with Beijing Shougang Ducks with the team announcing the deal on Tuesday.

Lin himself also confirmed that he is heading to China, posting a photo of himself in Ducks’ jersey on social media. Captioning the photo, he thanked the NBA and its fans while saying he is “excited about the next step in his career.

“To challenge stereotypes, make history, rep Asians at the NBA level and pave the path as others have done for me has been an absolute privilege.” – Lin wrote on Instagram. “I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for each person who has been with me each step of the way. “

Jeremy Lin going to China was an expected turn of events, as NBA teams showed little to no interest in him during the offseason. He split the last season between Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors, winning an NBA title with the latter team. Lin, however, wasn’t the biggest contributor to Raptors’ championship run as he only played 3.4 minutes per game in the postseason and averaged 1.1 points.

Lin is best known for his breakthrough performances with New York Knicks in 2011/12 when he had a stretch of high-scoring games and became an NBA sensation. After that, he became a journeyman in the league, playing for several teams including Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets.

It looks like Canada might experience Linsanity as well. According to ESPN, Atlanta Hawks’ guard Jeremy Lin is finalizing his contract buyout with the team and intends to sign with the Toronto Raptors once the process is over.

Lin’s agents Jim Tanner and Roger Montgomery confirmed the news, saying that the 30-year-old, who is owed $13.8 million for the 2018-19 season, is expected to finish the buyout on Monday and sign with the Raptors around midweek.

Jeremy Lin played a total of 51 games with Atlanta Hawks this season, averaging 10.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, with most of his contributions coming from the bench. He is expected to provide significant depth to the Raptors’ bench as well, especially considering the fact that they’ve traded away several key role players in order to acquire Marc Gasol. In Toronto, Lin will probably share his minutes with Fred VanVleet, with the pair taking roles in acting as Kyle Lowry’s backup.

Jeremy Lin played for several NBA teams during his career, including Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets. He played his best basketball, however, in 2012, when he managed to average 14.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.

Linsanity is about to come to Atlanta since Brooklyn Nets decided to trade guard Jeremy Lin to Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night. Hawks will send 2020 second-round pick from the Portland Blazers and rights to Isaia Cordinier. Cordinier was drafted 44th overall in 2016 NBA Draft but remained to play Europe.

Besides Jeremy Lin, the Nets will also send a 2025 second-round pick and the right to swap picks in 2023 to Hawks. Lin confirmed the trade by posting a photoshopped photo of himself in the Atlanta Hawks jersey.

Following the trade, Nets minority owner Joe Tsai went on Twitter and expressed his appreciation for Lin writing that “he represents the underdog in all of us — truly first class on and off the court” and that “he sets an example for perseverance and leadership.”

The move benefited both teams. Atlanta Hawks got some pick and put their free salary cap space in good use by absorbing Jeremy Lin’s $12.5 million expiring contract. They will also get a replacement for Dennis Schroder, who is expected to be traded soon.

On the Brooklyn Nets side, they got some salary cap space which they will probably use to take on salary dumps which will get them more draft picks and/or young talents. They will not feel Lin’s absence that much since they have D’Angelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie to take on guard roles.

Jeremy Lin joined the Nets in 2016, signing a three-year, $36 million contract. Struggling with injuries, he managed to play only 36 games, in which he averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. Injuries prevented him from playing in the last season as well since he suffered ruptured patella tendon on the right knee in the opener against Indiana Pacers and was ruled out for the entire season.

After Gordon Hayward of the Boston Celtics suffered a horrific injury in the Tuesday’s game vs. Cavs, another player was seriously injured on Wednesday. Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin landed awkwardly after a drive in the fourth quarter of the game vs. Pacers and crumbled on the court. He left the game with an injury, but no one was certain about its severity. Lin left the game with 18 points scored and 4 assists.

On Thursday, the Nets revealed that Lin has been diagnosed with a ruptured patella tendon and is expected to miss the 2017-18 season.

Jeremy worked tremendously hard during the offseason and in training camp and was excited for the prospects of the team this season.” – said Nets general manager Sean Marks. “We feel awful that the injury will cost him the season, however, our entire organization will be there to support Jeremy in every way possible throughout his recovery. Jeremy remains an important part of this team and will continue to contribute in a leadership role.”

Jeremy Lin was selected to start at point guard for the Brooklyn Nets this season, although the team has acquired talented D’Angelo Russell, who plays the same position. The idea of the Nets was to start Lin at point guard this season and have Russell play shooting guard. With Lin out, Russell will likely move to his natural position, while another new addition to the team, Allen Crabbe, will take the shooting guard position.

After a breakthrough spell with the New York Knicks, Jeremy Lin became something of a NBA journeyman. He finally settled with the Nets in 2016, signing a three-year contract, worth around $36 million. His first season with the team was spoiled by injuries, and he managed to play only 36 games. Lin averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals during that time.
