Veteran center JaVale McGee didn’t have to wait too long to find a new team after being waived by the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Just a few days later, McGee agreed on a deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.

Reportedly, McGee will ink a one-year minimum contract. This would guarantee him a salary of around $3 million in 2023-24, considering he has more than 10 years of experience in the league.

McGee joined the Mavericks on a multi-year contract with a reported annual salary of $7 million ahead of the 2022–23 season. He was a starter to begin the campaign but eventually lost his place in the rotation. The 35-year-old ended up playing only 42 games, averaging 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds.

JaVale McGee could turn out to be a good pickup for the young Kings team. He has 15 NBA seasons under his belt, having played for eight different franchises. McGee, who averaged 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds throughout his pro career, won two NBA Championships with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018 and added another title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

McGee will likely fight for the backup center job behind All-Star Domantas Sabonis in Sacramento. He faces competition from veteran Alex Len, who served in that role last season.

The Denver Nuggets are finally getting All-Star Nikola Jokic some help at the center position. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday that the Nuggets acquired JaVale McGee in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In order to get McGee, the Nuggets gave up German power forward Isaiah Hartenstein and two second-round picks in 2023 and 2027. The 2023 pick is protected between No.31 and No.46, while the 2027 selection is unprotected.

This is a great deal for the Cavs, as they were looking to trade McGee for a while now. With the 33-year-old veteran out of town, the organization can now give a bigger role to their young center Jarrett Allen while also getting valuable assets for their rebuild.

Denver, on the other hand, got themselves a solid backup center. Despite his age, McGee brings rebounding and defensive awareness and should be a great addition to their second unit.

The deal will see JaVale McGee returning to the Nuggets after previously playing in Denver between 2012 and 2015. This season, McGee is averaging 8.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.

Isaiah Hartenstein is in his third NBA season and has played in 30 games for the Cavs in 2020/21. He is averaging 3.5 points and 2.8 rebounds while spending 9.1 minutes on the floor.

It isn’t much of a secret that most of the signings that the Los Angeles Lakers made this off season was according to Lebron James’ wishes. It turns out that one of the players that James really wanted to play with in Los Angeles was former Golden State Warriors center JaVale McGee, and he ended up getting his wish fulfilled by the Lakers’ front office.

Now, in case you are wondering why would the best basketball player in the world want to play with McGee, James decided to offer an explanation.

I played against him in the last two NBA Finals,” – LeBron James told The Associated Press. “And I wanted him on this team because I know what he brings. It’s his energy, his energy level, his ability at the rim and his ability to protect the rim. If you don’t have that on your team, you’re not going to have much, man. You need to have people with a high IQ, which he’s got. That’s why I wanted JaVale to be part of this.”

It turns out that James knew what he was doing since JaVale McGee was more than solid for the Lakers so far. In 20 games he played in this season, McGee averaged a career-high 12.7 points and 2.9 blocks per game while grabbing 6.2 rebounds.
