Philadelphia Eagles decided to give Jason Peters a pay rise after the veteran decided to switch from right guard to left tackle earlier this week.

Peters initially re-signed with the Eagles in July on a one-year, $6 million deal, to play right guard following Brandon Brook’s season-ending injury. However, after Philly also lost left tackle Andre Dillard for the season, the 38-year-old offensive lineman opted to switch back to his natural position.

According to new terms, Peters’ new contract will now be for $8 million. This includes 4 million guaranteed and a $2 million signing bonus.

Reportedly, right tackle Lane Johnson helped salary cap-limited Eagles to work out a new deal for Peters. Johnson reworked his contract and converted a major part of his $7.785 million salary into a signing bonus.

Jason Peters joined the Eagles back in 2009 and has manned the left side of the offensive line ever since. He played 140 games in the past 11 years in Philly, helping the team win a Super Bowl in 2017. Peters also earned seven Pro Bowl selections and four All-pro honors during that period.

Philadelphia Eagles and legendary left tackle Jason Peters are reunited. The Eagles announced on Tuesday that Peters returned to the franchise on a one-year deal.

According to NFL Network, Peters’ deal is worth $3 million, but he could earn up to $6 million through incentives.

As part of his return, Peters will switch positions and play the guard position. The Eagles expect the 38-year-old veteran to step in for right guard Brandon Brooks, who’s out for 2020 with Achilles tear. While Peters never played guard before, the Eagles are reportedly convinced he can do a better job than the other options that were available on the market.

Jason Peters has been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2009, joining in a trade from Buffalo Bills. Since then, he made 140 starts for the franchise, was at seven Pro Bowls and helped the team win Super Bowl in 2017.

Still, Eagles opted to not extend Peters’ contract in March, wanting to rejuvenate their offensive line and give 2019’s first-round pick Andre Dillard a chance in the first team. At the time, the team’s general manager Howie Roseman stated that the veteran could still get back for another season if “the situation was right.” And after Brooks got injured, Roseman knew who to call first.
