New Orleans Saints have decided to keep corner Janoris Jenkins around for several more years. Two sides reportedly agreed on a two-year extension, worth $16.75 million.

Jenkins is now under contract through 2022. He had one year left on his five-year, $62.5 million deal he signed back in 2016 with New York Giants.

Saints picked up Jenkins towards the end of 2019 NFL season after he was placed on waivers by Giants for using inappropriate language on Twitter. He ended up playing three games in New Orleans, contributing with 15 tackles, one interception, and 0.5 sacks.

Before arriving in New Orleans, Janoris Jenkins played for four years with Rams and Giants each. His best season came in 2016 when he had 49 tackles, 1.0 sacks, three interceptions, 18 pass deflections, and one forced fumble. This earned him both Pro Bowl selection and Second-team All-Pro honors.

Jenkins has a reputation of a lock-down corner who can take the opponents’ best receiver out of the game when on his best. While he is obviously past his prime, there is no doubt that Jenkins can still be a valuable piece in Saints secondary, especially since he has a quality supporting cast. There is no doubt that this deal works for both sides.
