The Denver Nuggets didn’t take long to start wheeling and dealing under new general manager Calvin Booth. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nuggets have shipped veteran JaMychal Green to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal that also included a swap of picks.

As part of the trade, the Thunder will also get a protected first-round selection in 2027. On the other hand, Denver received no. 30 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and two future second-rounders.

Green has been playing in Denver for the past two seasons. He made 67 appearances in 2021-22, averaging 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

The value of this deal for the Nuggets isn’t just an extra selection in this year’s draft, and future second-round picks. By moving Green, they also get a salary-cap relief and save $20 million in salary and luxury tax. They also created an $8.2 million trade exception that they can use to make additions to their roster in the future.

On the other hand, OKC was motivated to shed one of their many picks this year and push it further in the future. The Thunder was set to have three first-round selections in 2022 before making the Nuggets’ deal. They still held onto no. 2 and no. 12 picks.

JaMychal Green previously also played with the San Antonio Spurs, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Los Angeles Clippers. His best season as a pro came in 2017-18 in Grizzlies’ jersey, when he averaged 10.3 points, 8.4 boards, and 1.4 points per game.

Los Angeles Clippers are continuing to have a busy offseason. After getting Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the team now decided to address their roster depth and re-sign forward JaMychal Green to a two-year, $10 million deal.

According to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, who first reported the deal, Green had far more lucrative offers on the table but turned them down in order to try and win an NBA championship with the Clippers.

Green joined the Clippers midway through last season, in a deal which sent Avery Bradley to Memphis Grizzlies. He ended up playing 24 games during the regular season in LA, averaging 8.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. His production increased in the playoffs, as he managed to average 11.0 points in a six-game first-round exit against the Golden State Warriors.

Although JaMychal Green is now an established veteran, his road to the NBA wasn’t an easy one. After going undrafted in 2012 NBA Draft, Green spent time in the D-League and overseas, before getting a chance to play with San Antonio Spurs in 2015. The Spurs released him after just four games, but he ended up landing with Memphis Grizzlies where he became one of the core members of the team’s famous “Grit and Grind” era.

Green’s averages over the course of the six years of his NBA career include 8.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

NBA teams are slowly wrapping up their roster businesses. The reports are saying that Memphis Grizzlies and restricted free agent JaMychal Green agreed on a 2-year, $17 plus Million Deal. Green’s return was confirmed by the Grizzlies on their official Twitter account.

Grizzlies offered a contract to Green before July 1 but didn’t manage to make a substantial progress until recently. With the new deal, Green will make more than $8 million per year, which is one big jump compared to the $800 per week that he earned by playing in NBA Development League at the beginning of his career.

Playing college basketball for Alabama, JaMychal Green made First-team All-SEC (2011) and Second-team All-SEC (2012) selections, on top of being named McDonald’s All-American in 2008. Green declared for 2012 NBA draft but went undrafted. He joined the San Antonio Spurs for the NBA Summer League before being acquired by the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League. He played 44 games for Toros putting up some good numbers and averaging 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. In 2013 he played again in the NBA Summer League, this time for the Los Angeles Clippers. He was signed by the Clippers but then waived. Green also played in France for Chorale Roanne, appearing in 25 games in 2013–14 season and putting up some remarkable performances.

After failing to secure a multi-year deal with the Spurs once again, Green managed to get it from the Memphis Grizzlies. After a mediocre first season, Green developed into a productive bench player in his second year with the Grizzlies. The 2016-2017 season was Green making an even bigger progress, appearing in 77 games (75 as a starter), and averaging career highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals as well as 3-point and free-throw percentages.
