The MLS announced on Monday that Rochester NY FC will join the MLS NEXT Pro developmental league which will commence in 2022. In addition to Rochester, the league will consist of 20 teams that are affiliated with MLS clubs.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who is one of the owners of the club, expressed his joy for Rochester to be presented with such a lucrative opportunity.

“I think that the massive thing is obviously the development side. that’s one thing we want to do. We’ve been looking at MLS NEXT [MLS’s affiliated youth league] players and we think there is quite a few of them that got potential to come in and play for us straightaway in 2022. So to go into the MLS NEXT Pro league, it was kind of a no-brainer,” Vardy explained.

Having rebranded from the Rochester Rhinos, the club previously played in the USL Championship before going on hiatus in 2017. The club is famously remembered as the only non-MLS club to win the U.S. Open Cup since the launch of the MLS.

Rochester is expected to announce a new head coach in the coming days while also beginning the search for new players.

Leicester City’s striker Jamie Vardy is the Premier League Golden Boot winner for the 2019/20 season. Vardy claimed the honor despite failing to score in Sunday’s 0-2 defeat against Manchester United.

Vardy entered the last game of the season with 23 goals on his tally and a comfortable lead ahead Southampton’s Danny Ings (21) and Arsenal’s  Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (21). However, both Ings and Aubameyang made a late run for the trophy.

Ings scored a late goal in the 3-1 win against Sheffield United, while Aubameyang scored two goals in the 3-2 win against Watford and had an entire half to chase a hat-trick. Still, neither managed to find their way to the net once more to usurp Vardy.

By winning the Premier League Golden Boot at age 33, Jamie Vardy became the oldest player to do so in the history of the competition. He is also the first Leicester City player with this award.

“I’m delighted, but it’s all about the team,” said Vardy. “I wouldn’t have been in the position l am with the goals if it wasn’t for them, and luckily I’ve put a few of them away.”

Vardy joined Leicester in 2012 and has since scored 123 goals in Premier League and 130 goals in all competition. He was crucial to the team’s Premier League title-winning campaign in 2015/16 when he scored 24 goals and was named Player of the Season.

Jamie Vardy scored the Premier League’s first goal of 2019 as Leicester beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Tuesday.

In a low-quality match that displayed Everton’s poor form, Vardy took advantage of errors from Theo Walcott and teammate Ricardo Perreira to score the game’s first goal in the 58th minute.  Vardy celebrated in his usual somersault manner before resuming with the search for a second game.

The game ended 1-0, allowing Leicester to celebrate their third win in the last one month. The 2016 EPL champions beat Chelsea and Manchester City over the festive season, solidifying their position in the top half of the EPL table.

Everton have only won once in the last eight matches and were awful for the better part of Tuesday’s game. They only had one serious attempt at the goal, but made a little bit more effort in the first half compared to the second.

Coach Marco Silva described the game as “a stranger afternoon” and “disappointing.”

“It was a strange afternoon for us, the coach said. “It was a disappointing result and not a good performance. We wanted to give good feelings to our fans and we didn’t achieve that.”

Despite their poor performance, Everton are ranked 10th on the EPL table while Leicester moved up one position to rank seventh.
