Despite numerous transfer rumors surrounding James Rodriguez last summer, the Colombian international remained with Real Madrid. However, it appears that this was only because the La Liga giants didn’t want to let him leave for a competitor.

In a recent interview with Colombian media outlet Gol Caracol, Rodriguez admitted that he was close to leaving Santiago Bernabeu before the start of the season. The 28-year-old agreed to terms and thought the move was all set before Real stepped in.

“There was a very good proposal from a Spanish team, which Real Madrid rejected. I’d prefer not to say the name of the team,” said Rodriguez. “I thought it was a done deal, but they didn’t let me go to the club I wanted to join. They wanted me to go to another team.”

According to recent reports, the Spanish team Rodriguez is referencing could be Atletico Madrid.

Rodriguez added that there were also offers for him from Italy and China, but that he didn’t want to go there and ended up staying put. He ended up playing 14 games in all competitions in 2019/20, contributing with one goal and two assists.

James Rodriguez joined Real Madrid in 2014 after a spectacular performance in the FIFA World Cup during which he earned the Golden Boot award as the tournament’s top goalscorer. Rodriguez had a promising first season in Spain but ultimately failed to meet the big expectations laid in front of him.

After two mediocre seasons, Rodriguez was sent to Bayern Munich on a two-year-long loan. Although he hoped to resurrect his career with this move, he ended up struggling in Germany as well. Rodriguez played 67 games and scored only 15 goals over the course of his stint with Bundesliga giants.

David Beckham is reportedly working with his old club Real Madrid in order to secure a major transfer for his MLS club Inter Miami. According to Goal, Beckham reached out to Real’s president Florentino Perez with the intention to make a move for Colombian star attacker James Rodriguez.

Rodriguez hasn’t been in Real’s plans for some time now, spending previous seasons on loan with Bayern Munich. After Bayern declined to make a permanent move, the 28-year-old returned to Madrid where he only made seven appearances in 2019/20 La Liga season.

Real would reportedly be willing to do business with Miami, considering that Rodriguez has just one year left on his deal and could walk for free next summer. Inter, on the other hand, previously failed to bring in a high-profile player for their inaugural MLS season and are now trying to make amends.

Beckham, who owns Inter Miami and is the club’s current president, is also in touch with James Rodriguez’s representatives in order to see whether the player is interested in MLS move. Reportedly, a firm offer is yet to be made.

While Rodriguez’s arrival in MLS would be a huge thing for US soccer, it would be a surprise if the move goes through. He is still in his prime, and a number of big European clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Everton are interested in his services. But, it is okay to dream, right?

Real Madrid and Colombia national team midfielder James Rodriguez has been diagnosed with a knee sprain and is expected to miss the next three to six weeks of action.

Rodriguez suffered the injury last Thursday while with the Colombia national team in the squad’s preparation for a friendly match against Peru, returning afterward to Madrid for testing.

It’s a disappointing development for Los Blancos, who held Rodriguez out of action since October 22nd due to a different leg injury. He was finally allowed to play with his national team, but it didn’t take long for him to fall victim to another injury.

He had shown some promising details during his first few games back with the massive Spanish club after a couple of years on loan with Bayern Munich. He’ll now have to wait for a bit to get back on the pitch, however.

Rodriguez scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in 9 competitive matches this season for Real Madrid. He played in about half of his club team’s games.

The 29-year-old is expected to miss a minimum of three weeks with his injury. Depending on how the recovery process goes, he could be out until at least January.

After spending the past two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich, it appears that attacking midfielder James Rodríguez is set to stay at Real Madrid for the 2019-20 season.

Los Blancos have apparently made the decision to keep James due to the serious knee injury suffered by Marco Asensio earlier in the preseason. While the club’s original plans included the sale of Rodríguez during the summer window, it now appears that they will need to keep him around at least until next summer.

The move is especially surprising after coach Zinedine Zidane’s public comments about Real Madrid’s desire to move away from James. Despite scoring 28 goals in only 77 career matches with the club, many feel that he hasn’t lived up to the hype after his signing in 2014.

Rodríguez has found a home in Germany over the past two seasons, where he’s been a key part of a Bayern Munich squad that has won the Bundesliga in both of James’s seasons there.

It now appears that James will have a second lease on life at the Santiago Bernabéu, whether the club’s current coach likes it or not. It might be James’ last chance to impress with the club, or else he could be sent elsewhere in the near future.

With only two and a half weeks to go until European club soccer gets going, the summer transfer window is quickly coming to a close. Teams still have some time to make additions and subtractions in order to tailor their rosters, but some ongoing sagas appear to be reaching their ends.

Here are my predictions on where the five remaining hottest transfer targets will end up at the end of the window.

Paul Pogba: Real Madrid

It’s been clear ever since June that the French midfielder wants out of Manchester United. Pogba said himself that he is “ready for a new challenge” and it’s been a poorly-kept secret that he’d love to play for Los Blancos. Florentino Pérez has the cash to pay for him, and Real Madrid could use a player like Pogba. Bet on him ending up in the Spanish capital.

Gareth Bale: Tottenham Hotspur

The Real Madrid-Gareth Bale marriage simply isn’t working anymore. With Zinedine Zidane back, the club has publicly acknowledged that a transfer would be the best option. Although high-value proposals have already arrived from the Chinese Super League, why wouldn’t Bale go back to North London where his career took off? Spurs reached the Champions League final in May, and while he might have to take a pay cut to go there, he’d be happiest at home in the UK.

Neymar Jr.: Paris Saint-Germain

Neymar might not be happy in the French capital, but it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to go elsewhere this summer. Barcelona seems to have cooled on the idea of re-acquiring their former star, and after they added Antoine Griezmann, it seems even less likely. The Brazilian forward might have to stay in Paris for another season before trying to make an exit next summer.

James Rodríguez: Atlético Madrid

The Colombian attacking midfielder got his career back on track on loan at Bayern Munich last season, scoring 7 goals and notching 4 assists in 20 Bundesliga matches. He still has tons of quality in his boots and appears to be keen on a move back to Spain. Atlético’d like to help replace the departed Antoine Griezmann, and James would make a lot of sense for Los Colchoneros.

Leroy Sané: Bayern Munich

Man City head coach Pep Guardiola has been public about his desire to keep Sané, but the 23-year-old left-winger doesn’t want to renew his contract with the team. While he’s been an integral part of the two-time defending Premier League champions, a big money move back to his native Germany appears to be the most likely ending for this season’s Leroy Sané saga.
