In a move that surprised absolutely nobody, the New York Jets decided to fire their head coach Adam Gase.

Gase leaves the franchise after overseeing consecutive losing seasons and posting a 9-23 record as the Jets’ head coach.

The team confirmed the news on social media on Sunday, making the move official shortly after the Jets suffered a 28-14 loss to the New England Patriots in their final game of 2020.

Gase was considered to be on the hot seat last season as well, but the promising finish of 2019, which saw the team win six out of their final eight games, made the franchise believe they could be on the right track.

However, this turned out to be an anomaly, as the Jets opened 2020 with 13 straight losses, setting the record for the longest winless streak in franchise history. Gase also failed to live up to his reputation as an offensive genius, considering that the Jets were the worst-ranked offense in the league for the second year in a row.

Gase’s time with the Jets was also marked by his bad relationship with some of the team’s high-profile players, including safety Jamal Adams and running back Le’Veon Bell, both of whom left the franchise on bad terms. He also reportedly played a big part in the firing of general manager Mike Maccagn.

Reportedly, the Jets’ search for a new head coach will be headlined by CEO Christopher Johnson, general manager Joe Douglas, and team president Hymie Elhai. Douglas is expected to make the suggestion, but Johnson will have the final say.

New York Jets’ star safety Jamal Adams continues to do his best to alienate himself from the organization in an attempt to force a trade. This time, he decided to take a jab at his head coach Adam Gase.

In a recent interview with New York Daily News, Adams criticized Gase and said that he isn’t the right leader for the Jets organization.

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” said Adams. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.”

Adams didn’t miss the opportunity to voice his displeasure with general manager Joe Douglas as well, blasting him for the way he handled the recent contract negotiations.

“It was very insulting,” Adams added.

Jamal Adams officially asked the New York Jets to trade him back in June after the organization didn’t give him a contract extension he wants. However, Jets have been taking the slow and steady approach with the matter, as they have him under contract for three more years with the franchise tag included.

Reportedly, Jets are willing to consider offers for the All-Pro but expect a big return that would include at least two first-round picks and several more assets. The list of interested teams includes Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, and Dallas Cowboys.

Adams finished the 2019 season with 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, seven pass deflections, one interception, and one touchdown. He earned his second Pro Bowl selection and was selected First-Team All-Pro for the first time in his career.
