After being released by Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, it looks like running back Jamaal Charles won’t bother searching for a new job. Charles, who played for 11 seasons in the league, recently posted a message on his social media, hinting that he is considering retirement from professional football.

I’m so thankful and grateful. Thanks Jaguars for opportunity. It probably was my last chance putting on a jersey again,” – Charles wrote while posting a photo in Jags’ uniform.

Jaguars signed Jamaal Charles on October 9th, after the team faced with lack of depth on the running back position due to injuries. The 31-year-old ended up playing only two games, in which he had six carries for seven yards. Jags decided to walk away from Charles after they acquired Carlos Hyde from Cleveland Browns last week.

Jamaal Charles entered the league in 2008 when the Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the third round of that year’s draft. He spent nine years with the Chiefs, during which he made four Pro Bowl selections and earned two First-Team All-Pro honors. In 2017, Charles signed with the Denver Broncos, who declined to offer him a contract extension in the preseason.

Charles played a total of 118 NFL games during his career, managing to rush for 7,563 and 44 touchdowns. He was also a threat as a receiver, catching 310 passes for 2,593 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Veteran running back Jamaal Charles is looking his way out from Denver. Speaking to The Denver Post recently, Charles said he would like to be released by Denver Broncos in order to find a spot on a playoff team where he could play for a change.

I ain’t playing. Might as well,” – said Charles. “No reason for me to just sit around and look at people play. It is what it is. I’m still going to be supportive of everyone on the team no matter what. I mean, they got my rights right now.

Although the player might want to sign with another team, Broncos coach Vance Joseph commented that Charles’ release “has not been a thought for us.

Charles signed a one-year, $900,000 deal ($3.75 million with all the bonuses) in the summer, and had a nice start in the first three games of the season, having 28 carries combined. But since Devontae Booker returned from the injury in Week 4, Charles’ role was diminished and he had only seven carries in six games. The Broncos will also miss the playoffs this year, so they have decided to give a rookie running back De’Angelo Henderson a chance.

At the end of the day, I just got to see what’s the future for me.” – added Charles about his situation. “That’s the next step. If it’s somewhere else or if somebody wants to pick me up … I want to play. I feel like I never got a chance to show people that I can carry the load, so I still want to (show) that I can carry a team. I want an opportunity. That’s all I want.

Jamaal Charles spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs, before joining the Broncos. He is NFL’s all-time leader in career yards-per-carry among the running backs, so he supposed to be a big addition to the Broncos offense. It looks like coach Joseph had something different in mind.
