Restricted free agent J.T. Compher is staying in Colorado. The 24-year-old forward agreed to a four-year deal with Avalanche, which will keep him with the organization at least until 2023.

The Athletic reported that the two sides came to an agreement on a contract worth $3.5 million annually on Wednesday, thus avoiding an arbitration hearing.

The deal was later confirmed by Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic, who praised Compher’s versatility on ice and hinted that he could have an expanded role in the following season.

“J.T. has been one of our most versatile forwards over the past two years,” – said Sakic in a statement. “He plays on our power play, kills penalties, and has played up and down our lineup. He has scored some big goals late in games and we are counting on him to have an even more expanded role moving forward. We are excited to have him under contract for the next four seasons.”

Compher is coming off a career season in which he had career highs in both goals (16) and assists (16). He was also a major contributor in the Stanley Cup playoffs, as he provided four goals and two assists.
