The Phoenix Suns announced that they are signing veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas to a contract until the end of the season. Thomas previously played on two 10-day contracts with the franchise.

Thomas hasn’t played much so far with the Suns, spending 14 minutes on the floor in four games combined while scoring five points and adding two assists. However, the Suns reportedly want additional backcourt depth for the postseason while also appreciating his leadership and presence in the locker room.

Isaiah Thomas, who has two NBA All-Star nods to his name, last played meaningful basketball in 2021-22 when he averaged 8.4 points and 1.5 assists in 22 games with the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Charlotte Hornets. Thomas remained unsigned in 2022-23 and only returned to basketball this past March after signing with NBA G League side Salt Lake City Stars. He averaged 32.5 points and 5.3 assists in four games with before receiving a call-up from the Suns.

“I just spoke it into existence the last couple years,” Thomas said in a chat with reporters after signing the deal. “I spoke everything that’s happened in my career into existence, so it’s definitely not a surprise for me … I’m super grateful as always, appreciative of the opportunity. The Suns gave me an opportunity when no one else would.”

Veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas still hasn’t given up on playing in the NBA again. Thomas recently told Yahoo Sports Chris Haynes that he is “in communication” with multiple teams and looking to get back on the court.

Thomas last played with the Washington Wizards early in the 2019-20 NBA season. He was traded to the LA Clippers in February and was then waived shortly after. The 32-year-old guard failed to find a new team and decided to undergo hip surgery in hopes that he would be injury-free in 2020-21.

Thomas made 37 starts last season with the Wizards, averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

While the injuries and inconsistency tarnished Isaiah Thomas’ reputation in recent years, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he landed a roster spot in the near future. Plenty of teams around the NBA are in need of quality depth due to the coronavirus and injuries, and Thomas might be a valuable bench piece for most of them.

Thomas had his best performances in a Boston Celtics jersey, making two All-Star appearances with the franchise. He was especially productive during 2016–17 when he was an MVP candidate and averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Isaiah Thomas’ stint with Denver Nuggets in 2018/19 was all but successful, as the veteran point guard played only 12 games for the team in the whole season. Still, it seems like he wasn’t without meaningful contributions to the Nuggets organization despite warming the bench most of the time.

Nuggets head coach Mike Malone recently discussed Thomas’ role on the team last season, saying that he made “instrumental” contributions and that the team missed him in 2019/20.

“It was my second time coaching Isaiah and what I think people probably don’t realize is we miss I.T.,” – Malone told reporters on Tuesday. “His personality, his voice, his leadership, his presence I thought was instrumental on our team last year.”

Thomas spent a significant portion of his time in Denver rehabbing from hip surgery, which affected his playing time upon return. Malone ended up taking him out of the rotation completely towards the end of the season in order to maximize the development of backup Monte Morris.

“He handled himself with unbelievable maturity and professionalism and all our young players really benefited from him being around,” – Malone added. “[We] definitely miss having him and more importantly, I’m happy that he’s healthy and back playing and playing at a high level.”

Isaiah Thomas ended up leaving Denver in the summer, signing a deal with Washington Wizards. It looks like this was a good decision, as he is playing really well early in the season. Thomas is currently averaging 12.0 points and 5.3 assists.

Isaiah Thomas was one of the NBA’s best players in the 2016-17 season, only a couple of years ago. He scored 28.9 points per game for the Celtics, leading the team to one of their best seasons this decade.

That season seems like a long time ago, however, after two unproductive and injury-plagued seasons have limited Thomas’s production and have brightened one of the NBA’s biggest stars.

However, Thomas isn’t ready to give up yet, and he’s joining the Washington Wizards on a one-year deal to try to reclaim his place as one of the league’s top point guards.

Thomas joins a Wizards team that was looking for a point guard after John Wall suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon earlier this season. In steps the 30-year-old Washington alum, who completed a long and grueling rehab process in February after a hip injury.

The point guard expects his newly-healed hip to allow him to prepare for this season normally, a step that Thomas considers to be very important. He explained that “Now I can go back to being a gym rat this summer, work on my game again and build my body back up — my muscle mass, my leg strength — all like I had going into the 2017 season.”

Thomas only played sparingly for the Nuggets last season, as he was unable to break into the rotation for one of the league’s top teams after being sidelined for most of the year.

Now, he’ll have a fantastic opportunity to re-establish his worth and become the perfect option for the Wizards for the duration of Wall’s absence.

Isaiah Thomas has had a couple of rough seasons following his MVP-worthy campaign with the Boston Celtics in 2016/17. He struggled with injuries and never managed to get to a similar level during his stints with Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets. But, this doesn’t mean Thomas will stop trying.

“Nobody knew what to expect with me coming off hip surgery last year, and two summers of rehab,” – Thomas recently told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “Now I can go back to being a gym rat this summer, work on my game again and build my body back up — my muscle mass, my leg strength — all like I had going into the 2017 season.”

Thomas signed with the Nuggets last summer and ended up spending the first part of the season rehabbing from the hip surgery. The 30-year-old guard made his debut with Denver in February and was expected to be a valuable contributor.

Still, as the Nuggets established themselves as a force in the West, Thomas saw his role being reduced to a bench warmer and fell out of the rotation. He ended the regular season with only 12 games played in which he averaged 8.1 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 rebounds. Despite this, however, he still appreciates the chance Denver gave him.

“Denver allowed me to take really as much time as I needed, to get back to 100 percent health,” – he explained. “When I look at it from the outside, I understood it. I missed 50 games, the team was having a hell of a season, and it wasn’t easy to just squeeze me in there when so many guys were playing so well. They didn’t want to mess up what they had going. I understood it.”

Now Thomas will try making a fresh start once again and is focused on finding a team that will give him a chance to return to the top level.

“I’m going to get back to a level that I was playing at,” – Thomas added. “I’m excited to show what I can do again.”

Denver Nuggets’ coach Michael Malone decided to remove point guard Isaiah Thomas from the rotation as his team is getting ready to make a final push for the No.1 seed in the Western Conference. Isaiah was DNP-CD for Tuesday’s game against Minnesota Timberwolves, and this might become a common occurrence for the final stretch of regular season games.

“Oh, you definitely talk to him (about the decision), and I’ll keep that conversation between IT and myself,” – said Malone. “(It’s) not an easy conversation, but that’s my job.”

Malone stated that the reason Thomas didn’t play is because he wants to have a smaller rotation in the upcoming weeks.

“Obviously, 16 (regular-season) games to go, (we’re going to) try to find a rhythm,” – he added. “And a rotation that I feel gives us the best chance to win now, and into the playoffs.”

After being traded several times and dealing with hip injuries for the better part of the last two years, Isaiah Thomas hoped he could resurrect his career with the Denver Nuggets. Thomas signed a minimum one-year deal in the summer with the team, wanting to prove he can still be on his MVP-candidate level from 2016-17 NBA season and get a lucrative long term deal this summer. Let’s just say things didn’t exactly work out that way.

Thomas had to undergo hip surgery in the summer and didn’t make his debut for the Nuggets until February 13th in a 120–118 win over the Sacramento Kings, when he scored eight points. He played a total of nine games this season and average 8.6 points and 1.7 assists per game.

Isaiah Thomas will try to resurrect his basketball career with the Denver Nuggets. According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thomas will ink a one-year, $2 million deal which will see him reunite with Michael Malone, who coached him with the Sacramento Kings.

Isaiah Thomas met with Malone and Denver’s president of basketball operations Tim Connelly in Las Vegas recently where he discussed his role in the team. Thomas was reportedly promised to have significant minutes from the bench and that he will be tasked with significant playmaking and scoring role. Prior to this, Thomas, who is still recovering from hip surgery, was reportedly in talks with Orlando Magic.

Before this offseason, Thomas expected to sign a max contract after he averaged 28.9 points per game for the Boston Celtics in 2016-17, was named an All-Star and earned second-team All-NBA honors. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old aggravated an old hip injury during the 2017 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, which sidelined him for more than six months. During that time he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After returning from injury, Isaiah Thomas struggled with the Cavs and was eventually sent to the Los Angeles Lakers. He managed to play a total of 32 games in the last season while averaging 15.1 points per game. In late March, Thomas decided to undergo a hip surgery which ruled him out for a season.

Isaiah Thomas was selected as the last pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by Sacramento Kings. His NBA career averages include 18.9 points, 5.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Los Angeles Lakers’ Isaiah Thomas will want to forget the 2017-18 season as soon as possible. The 29-year-old point guard struggled with hip injury for the better part of the season, which limited him to only 32 games. Thomas then decided to undergo an arthroscopic surgery to his right hip in late March, deciding to focus on his health and prepare for the next season.

It looks like Thomas has made the right decision since he gave an update on his health on Wednesday via Twitter saying that he is “finally pain free.”

According to estimations, Isaiah Thomas will need four months in order to fully recover from the surgery and get back to his full form. Quick and efficient recovery will be crucial for Thomas since he is set to become a free agent in July and NBA teams will most likely be cautious about signing him to a long-term deal. He might end up staying with the Lakers but that will only be the case if they don’t manage to lure LeBron James and/or Paul George.

In the 2017-18 season, Isaiah Thomas played 15 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers in which he averaged only 14.7 points and 4.5 assists. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on the trade deadline but didn’t manage to have more success there. Thomas played 17 games for the Lakers and contributed with 15.6 points and 5 assists per game.

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas opted to undergo a surgery to repair his right hip and will need four months to recover. The Lakers announced that Thomas had a surgery on Thursday and confirmed the recovery time.

Isaiah Thomas has been struggling with a hip injury since the 2017 NBA Eastern Conference finals when he missed the Boston Celtics’ final two games of the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then joined the Cavaliers in the trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston, but he didn’t play until January, trying to rehab his hip. After returning to the basketball court, Thomas couldn’t replicate the performance from the 2017-18 season, when he was one of the MVP candidates. The Cavs then decided to trade Thomas to the Lakers, when he showed progress but was still far from being an impactful player.

Thomas is in the final year of his contract, and it is hard to expect that there will be a team ready to give him a long-term contract. He will probably sign a one-year deal and will have to prove he can get back to his old form. The Lakers might be the team willing to offer him that short-term deal, but just in case that they are not able to get LeBron James and/or Paul George.

Although he was viewed as a disruptive teammate in the Cavaliers locker room, it looks like Thomas was on a better behavior with the Lakers. The team’s head coach Luke Walton recently even praised the 29-year-old for his attitude.

[Thomas] never complained,” – said Walton. “Every time I asked him how he was feeling, he said, ‘I feel great coach.’ Obviously, he was in some pain and had some discomfort. I didn’t know about it because he was always saying how good he felt. He really helped our team with obviously the way he can score the ball, but the things that does from a point guard position where he was constantly telling guys where to be, how to set the screen, where to set the screen, which is valuable for young players. I was very pleased with the time that he spent with us.

After struggling with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 15 games he played with the team, and being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, guard Isaiah Thomas finally started to remind us why he was one of the MVP candidates in the last season. In his first game with the Lakers after the trade, Thomas recorded 22 points and six assists, doing all the things he failed in Cleveland.

I wanted to bring something to the table,” – said Thomas about his performance. “I felt like I got my powers back playing on this team.

Although Thomas had six turnovers in the game, including throwing away a ball late in the fourth quarter, Lakers head coach Luke Walton was happy with what he saw from team’s newest acquisition.

He brings another dimension to what we have,” – said Walton. “When he is able to control pick-and-rolls and get people shots, obviously we couldn’t run a ton of stuff because he has been with us for one day, but he was good.

Isaiah Thomas joined Cleveland Cavaliers from Boston Celtics in the offseason, in the trade that sent Kyrie Irving in the opposite way. Thomas was injured at the moment and didn’t recover until January. After he returned to the action, he wasn’t himself averaging 14.7 points. Also, there were rumors about Thomas affecting the locker room in a negative way, so the Cavs decided to move on.

I was shocked,” – Thomas commented the trade. “It was a surprise, but at the same time, I am happy to have a new start, I am happy to be here with the Lakers, happy to be with a young team that is exciting, that likes to get up and down. That’s my style of play. I am here to help in any way possible. It’s a fresh start for me. I am excited.

Isaiah Thomas was one of the NBA’s best players in the 2016-17 season, only a couple of years ago. He scored 28.9 points per game for the Celtics, leading the team to one of their best seasons this decade.
