Veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas still hasn’t given up on playing in the NBA again. Thomas recently told Yahoo Sports Chris Haynes that he is “in communication” with multiple teams and looking to get back on the court.

Thomas last played with the Washington Wizards early in the 2019-20 NBA season. He was traded to the LA Clippers in February and was then waived shortly after. The 32-year-old guard failed to find a new team and decided to undergo hip surgery in hopes that he would be injury-free in 2020-21.

Thomas made 37 starts last season with the Wizards, averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

While the injuries and inconsistency tarnished Isaiah Thomas’ reputation in recent years, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he landed a roster spot in the near future. Plenty of teams around the NBA are in need of quality depth due to the coronavirus and injuries, and Thomas might be a valuable bench piece for most of them.

Thomas had his best performances in a Boston Celtics jersey, making two All-Star appearances with the franchise. He was especially productive during 2016–17 when he was an MVP candidate and averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Isaiah Thomas’ stint with Denver Nuggets in 2018/19 was all but successful, as the veteran point guard played only 12 games for the team in the whole season. Still, it seems like he wasn’t without meaningful contributions to the Nuggets organization despite warming the bench most of the time.

Nuggets head coach Mike Malone recently discussed Thomas’ role on the team last season, saying that he made “instrumental” contributions and that the team missed him in 2019/20.

“It was my second time coaching Isaiah and what I think people probably don’t realize is we miss I.T.,” – Malone told reporters on Tuesday. “His personality, his voice, his leadership, his presence I thought was instrumental on our team last year.”

Thomas spent a significant portion of his time in Denver rehabbing from hip surgery, which affected his playing time upon return. Malone ended up taking him out of the rotation completely towards the end of the season in order to maximize the development of backup Monte Morris.

“He handled himself with unbelievable maturity and professionalism and all our young players really benefited from him being around,” – Malone added. “[We] definitely miss having him and more importantly, I’m happy that he’s healthy and back playing and playing at a high level.”

Isaiah Thomas ended up leaving Denver in the summer, signing a deal with Washington Wizards. It looks like this was a good decision, as he is playing really well early in the season. Thomas is currently averaging 12.0 points and 5.3 assists.

Isaiah Thomas has had a couple of rough seasons following his MVP-worthy campaign with the Boston Celtics in 2016/17. He struggled with injuries and never managed to get to a similar level during his stints with Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets. But, this doesn’t mean Thomas will stop trying.

“Nobody knew what to expect with me coming off hip surgery last year, and two summers of rehab,” – Thomas recently told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “Now I can go back to being a gym rat this summer, work on my game again and build my body back up — my muscle mass, my leg strength — all like I had going into the 2017 season.”

Thomas signed with the Nuggets last summer and ended up spending the first part of the season rehabbing from the hip surgery. The 30-year-old guard made his debut with Denver in February and was expected to be a valuable contributor.

Still, as the Nuggets established themselves as a force in the West, Thomas saw his role being reduced to a bench warmer and fell out of the rotation. He ended the regular season with only 12 games played in which he averaged 8.1 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 rebounds. Despite this, however, he still appreciates the chance Denver gave him.

“Denver allowed me to take really as much time as I needed, to get back to 100 percent health,” – he explained. “When I look at it from the outside, I understood it. I missed 50 games, the team was having a hell of a season, and it wasn’t easy to just squeeze me in there when so many guys were playing so well. They didn’t want to mess up what they had going. I understood it.”

Now Thomas will try making a fresh start once again and is focused on finding a team that will give him a chance to return to the top level.

“I’m going to get back to a level that I was playing at,” – Thomas added. “I’m excited to show what I can do again.”

Los Angeles Lakers’ Isaiah Thomas will want to forget the 2017-18 season as soon as possible. The 29-year-old point guard struggled with hip injury for the better part of the season, which limited him to only 32 games. Thomas then decided to undergo an arthroscopic surgery to his right hip in late March, deciding to focus on his health and prepare for the next season.

It looks like Thomas has made the right decision since he gave an update on his health on Wednesday via Twitter saying that he is “finally pain free.”

According to estimations, Isaiah Thomas will need four months in order to fully recover from the surgery and get back to his full form. Quick and efficient recovery will be crucial for Thomas since he is set to become a free agent in July and NBA teams will most likely be cautious about signing him to a long-term deal. He might end up staying with the Lakers but that will only be the case if they don’t manage to lure LeBron James and/or Paul George.

In the 2017-18 season, Isaiah Thomas played 15 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers in which he averaged only 14.7 points and 4.5 assists. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on the trade deadline but didn’t manage to have more success there. Thomas played 17 games for the Lakers and contributed with 15.6 points and 5 assists per game.

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Isaiah Thomas opted to undergo a surgery to repair his right hip and will need four months to recover. The Lakers announced that Thomas had a surgery on Thursday and confirmed the recovery time.

Isaiah Thomas has been struggling with a hip injury since the 2017 NBA Eastern Conference finals when he missed the Boston Celtics’ final two games of the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He then joined the Cavaliers in the trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston, but he didn’t play until January, trying to rehab his hip. After returning to the basketball court, Thomas couldn’t replicate the performance from the 2017-18 season, when he was one of the MVP candidates. The Cavs then decided to trade Thomas to the Lakers, when he showed progress but was still far from being an impactful player.

Thomas is in the final year of his contract, and it is hard to expect that there will be a team ready to give him a long-term contract. He will probably sign a one-year deal and will have to prove he can get back to his old form. The Lakers might be the team willing to offer him that short-term deal, but just in case that they are not able to get LeBron James and/or Paul George.

Although he was viewed as a disruptive teammate in the Cavaliers locker room, it looks like Thomas was on a better behavior with the Lakers. The team’s head coach Luke Walton recently even praised the 29-year-old for his attitude.

[Thomas] never complained,” – said Walton. “Every time I asked him how he was feeling, he said, ‘I feel great coach.’ Obviously, he was in some pain and had some discomfort. I didn’t know about it because he was always saying how good he felt. He really helped our team with obviously the way he can score the ball, but the things that does from a point guard position where he was constantly telling guys where to be, how to set the screen, where to set the screen, which is valuable for young players. I was very pleased with the time that he spent with us.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently playing some great basketball, which made some people forget that they are not at full capacity still. The All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas is yet to play his first basketball game for the Cavs, but that moment looks like it’s closer than ever. On Thursday, Thomas has been assigned to the Cavs’ G League affiliate Canton Charge.

Playing for Charge will give Thomas a chance to play five-on-five and experience game situations for the first time since his hip surgery. Since the Cavs’ don’t have a five-on-five play at their practices, he will be able to experience the full court run and get in game shape.

According to sources close to the Cavs, Isaiah Thomas is targeting the first week of January to make his debut for the team. The Cavaliers didn’t want to comment on these reports with head coach Tyronn Lue saying the following:

I don’t know where that came from, but I hope so. I hope it’s accurate.

Thomas, the Cavaliers front office, and the team’s medical staff will reportedly make a joint decision about his return.

The 5.9 feet point guard has aggravated his existing hip injury while playing for the Boston Celtics in the last season’s playoffs. The Celtics decided to trade Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round pick for Kyrie Irving.

After being drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 NBA Draft as the 60th overall pick, Thomas has become a superstar caliber player. Thomas got the starting point guard role for the Celtics in 2015, and had two All-Star appearances, while being in the MVP conversations after averaging 28.9 points and 5.9 assists per game. There is no doubt that his return will make things even more interesting in the Eastern Conference.

Things aren’t looking bright for All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas or his new team Cleveland Cavaliers. It isn’t a secret that Thomas has is sidelined with a hip injury and that he won’t be able to begin 2017-2018 NBA season. But according to the latest reports from The Atletic’s Jason Lloyd, the injury is more serious than anyone guessed.

Loyd wrote the following:

“One source with direct knowledge of Thomas’ hip condition told The Athletic last week that he is dealing with more than just a tear. Some of those secondary issues in the hip he has played with for years now, such as a loss of cartilage and some arthritis, are complicating his healing process.

“No one has any idea how quickly this will heal or if it even will heal at all,” the source said. “It’s hard to predict.”

Although these claims should not be taken too seriously, the fact is that no one knows when Isaiah Thomas will step on the basketball court. Cleveland Cavaliers held a press conference on Thursday, introducing Thomas alongside Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic. Besides the three players, Cavs also obtained Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first round pick and Miami Heat’s 2020 second round pick by sending Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics. On the press conference, Cavs representatives were reluctant to talk about the injury of Isaiah Thomas but Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue confirmed he will miss the beginning of the season.

Without Thomas, Cavaliers are left with Derrick Rose, Jose Calderon, and Kay Felder as their point guards. The reality is that none of these three players can provide enough fire power that Cavs lost with Kyrie Irving and thought they gained with Thomas. Even if Thomas returns this season, no one knows will he be the same player as he was during his time with the Celtics. LeBron James may be enough to force another NBA Finals in the weak Eastern Conference, but for a Championship, they will need everything they have and more.

On Thursday, Cleveland Cavaliers have officially introduced their newest acquisitions Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and Ante Zizic. The official Twitter account of the Cavs posted the picture of players holding their new jerseys with capitation “Sharp.”

I’m excited to play here..it’s a match made in heaven. I want to be the greatest player to ever play… that’s how it was in Boston & how it will be in Cleveland” – said Thomas at the press conference.

Although Thomas is currently dealing with a hip injury, the Cavs were reluctant to comment on the topic. “To be fair to Isaiah, we’re not going to address any specifics on his hip injury” – said Cleveland Cavaliers GM Koby Altman. While no one knows how much will Thomas’ recovery take, Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue did confirm that the player won’t be ready for the beginning of the season.

The initial trade that was agreed two weeks ago saw Cavs sending Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics and acquiring Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic alongside Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round pick. After Thomas’ medical showed that his hip injury was more serious than it was suspected, the trade was put on hold. Cavaliers felt that they didn’t get enough value for Irving, and requested additional assets for trade to be finalized. Celtics caved at the end and agreed to include Miami Heat’s 2020 second-round draft pick in the package.

After the trade was made, there were lots of opposing thoughts on who won this trade. On one end, Celtics got a superstar player in his prime, who still has two years left on his contract. On the other end, Cavaliers got two starters in Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder who can make an immediate impact alongside being set for the future with a promising player in Ante Zizic and a draft pick that could well end up being the first overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. The conclusion is that both teams did a good job, but on the Cavaliers end, this will mostly depend on how well Thomas recovers from his injury.

Although there were certain doubts that the trade between Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics for Kyrie Irving could collapse, everything was finalized on Thursday. ESPN reported that Celtics added 2020 second-round draft pick via the Miami Heat to the package already containing Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round pick. This was enough for the Cavaliers to complete the trade. Celtics didn’t lose time, and immediately organized a press conference on Friday where they introduced Kyrie Irving alongside free agency signing Gordon Hayward.

I can’t wait to get on the floor and maximize my potential. I just want to be around those incredible coaches and those incredible minds and those incredible individuals, and I feel like in doing that, Boston came right at the exact time and it was meant to be that way. I trust in that, and I’m glad to be here.” – Irving said at the press conference.

The almost done deal between the Cavaliers and Celtics came in danger after Isaiah Thomas underwent his medical in Cleveland. The medical caused further concerns about his hip injury and Cavaliers felt Boston wasn’t fully transparent about it previous to making the deal. Although there were some reports about Cavaliers asking for a young star like Jayson Tatum to be added to the deal or another first round pick, at the end, they had to satisfy themselves with a second rounder.

The trade between the Celtics and Cavaliers will bring some entertainment to the traditionally uneventful Eastern Conference, but the majority of the analysts consider that Boston Celtic are not that close to challenging the Cavs for the spot in the NBA Finals. For a year, Cleveland will be, if not better, at least as good as they were last season if Isaiah Thomas gets recovered as planned and continues with performances he put up in Boston last season. Jae Crowder will bring a stability in the defense, while Brooklyn Nets pick sets Cleveland for the future in case James decides to go. If he decides to stay, the pick can be used to lure another star to Cleveland in attempt to put an end to the reign of the Warriors.

On Wednesday, Isaiah Thomas finally broke the silence and said “I am not damaged. I’ll be back, and I’ll be the same player. No doctor has told me anything different than that.” in an interview with ESPN. This came after Thomas had an unsuccessful medical with Cleveland Cavaliers making them question the trade they made with Boston Celtics. Many reporters called Thomas a “damaged good” afterward. It looks like Isaiah is determined to prove them wrong.

Blockbuster trade between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers saw Kyrie Irving taking on the Celtics jersey, while the Cavs got Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round pick. But, the trade still isn’t finalized and could collapse due to Isaiah Thomas hip injury.

Thomas was injured during the Eastern Conference Finals game 2 against the Cavs and was ruled out for the reminder of the series. He chose not to have the surgery and was expected to return to the court by the beginning of this season. However, the medical he had in Cleveland cast some doubt on that and showed that Thomas’ return could be significantly delayed. This put both the Celtics and the Cavs in an awkward situation. Celtics don’t want to lose a chance to have a superstar player like Irving while Cavaliers are now uncertain about the value they got in return if it turns out that Thomas won’t be able to play for the majority of the season. In order for Thomas to be of value for the Cavs, he needs to play the entire seasons, since he will be a free agent next year.

It has been reported by multiple sources that Cleveland Cavaliers are now asking for more assets from Celtics in order for this trade to go through. It looks like Cavs have their eyes set on additional first round or second round pick.
