Houston Texans’ general manager Nick Caserio won’t be leaving the franchise anytime soon. Caserio made this clear while addressing the rumors about his potential departure during Monday’s press conference.

There were reports in recent weeks that the Texans might shake up their front office after the 2023 NFL Draft. The changes would reportedly include Caserio stepping down from his position and returning to the New England Patriots, where he served in various front office roles for 20 seasons.

“Quite frankly, I’m almost embarrassed I have to. I feel sort of like Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘Wolf of Wall Street.’ I’m not leaving,” Caserio told reporters. “There’s never really been any substantive discussions of the sort.”

Nick Caserio was hired by the Texans after the 2020 NFL season as part of the franchise’s efforts to return to contender status. Since then, Caserio started a painful rebuild that included a 7-26-1 record in the past two seasons and saw three coaching changes.

There is a sense of optimism around the Texans, however, considering they have a second overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft that will allow them to take one of the top college quarterbacks. Also, the team hired former San Francisco defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach. Ryans is a former Texans player and is highly respected among his peers for his coaching acumen.

Although teams usually fire general managers before the offseason kicks off, Houston Texans decided to take a different approach. The team confirmed on Friday that they are parting ways with their GM Brian Gaine after just one season.

Houston also announced that senior vice president of football administration Chris Olsen will take over managerial duties until the team finds Gaine’s successor.

“After a thorough evaluation of our football operations, we have decided to relieve Brian Gaine of his duties as general manager.” – said Texans CEO Cal McNair in a team statement. “Brian is a man of high character, and we appreciate his contributions to our organization.”

McNair also acknowledged the unusual timing of the decision, given the fact that Gaine handled 2019 NFL Draft and free agency.

“While the timing may be unusual, this decision was made in the best interest of our organization in our quest to build a championship team for the city of Houston.” – he added.

Brian Gaine started his executive career by serving on several positions in NFL front offices including being Miami Dolphins’ assistant general manager and Buffalo Bills’ vice president of player personnel. Gaine joined Texans organization in January 2018, signing a five-year deal. He replaced Rick Smith, who stepped down due to his wife’s illness.

Texans finished the 2018 season on top of AFC South with 11-5 record, before losing to Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs.
