When Miami Heat somehow sneaked into this year’s playoffs as the No. 8 seed, many believed that the highlight of their postseason run would be if they managed to avoid getting swept by the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks. Instead, the Heat delivered a first-class sensation, eliminating the Bucks in five games and clinching a spot in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

The Heat won Game 5 at Milwaukee in a truly remarkable fashion. They returned in the fourth after being 16 points behind, tied the game with a near-buzzer beater to tie the game, and then took care of the business in overtime.

Facing elimination, the Bucks did as well as they could to try and keep themselves alive. They entered the fourth quarter with a 16-point lead and looked comfortable to ride it out to a win. However, the Heat never had any intentions of giving up and slowly worked their way back.

The Bucks seemed like they had weathered the storm, being up two points with 2.5 seconds left in the game. However, the Heat used their last timeout to set a Gabe Vincent inbound pass to Jimmy Butler, who scored a quick basket despite falling on the ground and tied the game at 118-118.

Both teams had their chances to run away with the win in overtime, but it was Miami who kept their calm and will now return to the conference semis for the second consecutive season.

“We just play hard,” said Butler, who scored 42 points. “We know what we’re capable of. We don’t listen to the outside noise, and we will not listen to any outside noise.”

The Miami Heat pulled off a big upset to start their playoff run, getting a 130-117 win over the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night. However, the Heat’s celebration was spoiled by the fact that their guard Tyler Herro suffered a hand fracture and will be out of the remainder of the postseason.

Herro got injured in the last minute of the second quarter while trying to get a loose ball. He landed hard on the floor and was in visible pain after.

Still, the 23-year-old player remained in the game to close out the period and even attempted a three-pointer before being ruled out for the rest of the game.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Heat’s head coach Erik Spoelstra all but confirmed that Herro has a broken hand.

“He’s not going to play the next game, and then we’ll just figure it out,” said Spoelstra. “I got the same diagnosis that you all heard.”

While the Heat managed to steal one game from the Bucks, they are facing an even bigger challenge to advance now that Herro is out. The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game in the regular season. He had 12 points in 19 minutes against Milwaukee before going down with an injury.

En route to last year’s NBA Finals, the Miami Heat embarrassed the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks and handed them a gentlemen’s sweep in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. This year, however, the Bucks are proving themselves to be a much tougher opponent.

The 2020-21 playoffs matched up the Heat and the Bucks once again, this time in the first round, and things aren’t going well for Miami so far. After getting edged out in Game 1 in overtime, the Heat also suffered a 98-132 blowout on Monday night.

The Bucks were dominant straight from the bat, pouring in 46 points in the first quarter alone, and were already 26 points ahead when the second period started. From that point on, Milwaukee kept adding to their lead while disrupting Miami’s comeback attempts with some excellent defense.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was the best player on the court, scoring 31 points and grabbing 13 boards in just 31 minutes. Jrue Holiday dished 15 assists, while the Bucks also got great production from Bryn Forbes, who scored 22 off the bench.

The Heat, on the other hand, struggled to put points on the board the whole night. They didn’t have any player with more than 19 points, while their All-Star forward Jimmy Butler finished with just 10 points, four assists, and two rebounds.

The Heat will have a chance to respond on Thursday when the series travels to Miami.

The Western Conference part of the playoffs also saw a blowout. The Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 128-109 and tied the series 1-1 thanks to a monster night from their All-Star center Nikola Jokic.

Jokic also played 31 minutes but managed to do even more damage. He finished the night with 38 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Michael Porter Jr. and Paul Millsap added 18 points, respectively.

Damian Lillard tried to keep the Blazers in the game as much as possible, but even his 42 points and 10 assists were not enough to make it close. The two teams will meet again on Thursday in Portland.

Miami Heat continued their stroll through the Eastern Conference playoffs on Wednesday night, beating the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the deciding Game 5 of the second round. With the 103-94 win, Heat completed the gentleman’s sweep over the Bucks with a 4-1 result in the series and advanced to the conference finals.

Bucks entered the game without the reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was sitting out with the ankle injury he suffered in Game 4. Despite this, Milwaukee had a strong opening of the game, closing the first quarter with a nine-point lead.

Heat immediately responded with a huge second quarter, in which they outscored their opponents by 15 points. Miami didn’t have trouble keeping their advantage in the second half and comfortably closed out the game.

By eliminating the Bucks, the Heat are now 8-1 in this year’s playoffs and have emerged as the front-favorites to reach the NBA Finals. They will meet Toronto Raptors or Boston Celtics in the East finals.

The standout players for the Heat on Wednesday night were Jimmy Butler, who had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, while Goran Dragic and Jae Crowder added 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

The Eastern Conference will be the furthest that Butler reached in the postseason since entering the NBA in 2011.

“It means a lot,” said Butler after the game. “But that’s not my goal. That’s not my guys’ goal. That’s not the organization’s goal. We want to win `it.’ We want a championship and I think that’s what we’re focused on. These next eight are going to be much harder than the previous eight. We know that. But we’re ready for them.”

Buck, on the other hand, were led by Khris Middleton, who had 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Brook Lopez had 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Donte DiVicenzo added 17 points.

Bucks entered the first quarter strong, managing to score 40 points and enter the second period 11 points ahead. However, Heat bounced back in the second, cutting Milwaukee’s lead to just three points.

The second half saw Miami taking over the control of the game and outscoring Bucks by nine in the third quarter. Milwaukee attempted a comeback in the fourth, but great defense and brilliance of Jimmy Butler carried Heat to a precious 1-0 lead in the series.
