The NFL has announced the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame nominees, with Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, and Charles Woodson presumed to have the best chances of being inducted.

Manning is all but a lock to be inducted. The quarterback played 18 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos and is considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, revolutionizing the position and bringing to it a cerebral facet that changed the way quarterback is played.

Manning won one Super Bowl championship apiece in Indianapolis and Denver, was named the NFL league MVP five times, and put up record-setting numbers in just about every statistical category.

Wide receiver Calvin Johnson played only nine seasons, all with the lowly Detroit Lions, but was the most dominant wide receiver in the league for the majority of his career, catching 731 passes for 11,619 yards, and 83 touchdowns.

Defensive back Woodson was a nine-time Pro Bowler, four-time first-team and four-time second-team All-Pro. He was also named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2009, was a two-time NFL interceptions leader, and won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The selection committee will meet on February 6, 2021, to make a decision on which players will make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Friday that the induction ceremony for the class of 2020 is set to take place from 13th to 15th May 2021. Among the inductees will be Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves great Kevin Garnett, San Antonio Spurs’ icon Tim Duncan, and late Los Angeles Lakers’ legend Kobe Bryant.

The ceremony was originally scheduled for late August, but the HOF board of governors decided to postpone it due to coronavirus pandemic outbreak. It was previously announced that the induction of class 2021 will also take part next year, but on another date.

The location of the induction ceremony for this year’s class was also changed and will be held at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

“The decision to reschedule Enshrinement into May of next year, along with diminished museum guest visitation and a very uncertain future regarding our multiple collegiate and high school basketball events this fall, has forced us to make these very difficult decisions,” said Hall of Fame president and CEO John Doleva in a statement. “Our goal now is to conserve resources so that we may stabilize in 2021 and return to our growth trajectory in 2022 and beyond.”

Besides Bryant, Duncan, and Garnett, the class of 2020 also includes former Houston Rockets’ head coach and two-time NBA Champion Rudy Tomjanovich, one of the most successful college coaches Eddie Sutton, and four-time Olympic gold medalist Tamika Catchings.

Retired running back Herschel Walker already made it to College Football Hall of Fame, but it looks like that isn’t enough for the former Dallas Cowboys’ star. During his recent chat with Pioneer Press, Walker reiterated his belief that he belongs in Pro Football Hall of Fame as well.

Walker has been eligible for Hall of Fame honor since 2003, but he never received serious consideration. This is in part due to him making only two Pro Bowl appearances and failing to play for a championship team. Still, the 58-year-old believes his stats should make the difference.

“If you look at my stats, I should be in the Hall of Fame,” said Walker. “My stats showed that I produced.”

Herschel Walker played 12 seasons in the NFL with Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, and Philadelphia Eagles among other teams. During that time, he had 8,225 rushing yards and 61 touchdowns, 512 receptions for 4,859 receiving yards, and 21 yards alongside 5,084 returning yards. His 18,168 all-purpose yards currently rank 12th on the all-time list.

Prior to coming to NFL, Walker also played in United States Football League, where he rushed for 5,562 yards in three years. If all his rushing numbers as a pro were combined, he would rank fifth all-time.

“Let’s just forget about my USFL days,” he added. “Look at my stats in the NFL. Look at my combined yards. Plus, I had 500 some catches. Those stats are good enough to be in the Hall of Fame. That’s what people need to look at when they start talking about numbers and all that.”

While Walker might have a point when it comes to his production, there is a little chance that he will get to Pro Football Hall of Fame anytime soon. He is just not that decorated like some other players of his era and the competition is getting more fierce each year.
