Veteran safety HaHa Clinton-Dix is ending his adventure with Dallas Cowboys without even playing an official game with the organization. Cowboys decided to release Clinton-Dix as part of the most recent roster cuts, announcing the move on Thursday.

The Cowboys signed Clinton-Dix to a one-year, $3.75 million deal in April, and the 27-year-old safety entered the camp to compete for the starting position in the 2020 NFL season. However, according to reports, Clinton-Dix performed poorly in practices and fell down the depth chart, which influenced Dallas’ decision to cut him.

By moving on from Clinton-Dix, the Cowboys cleared $1.5 million in cap space but remain on the hook for guaranteed $2.25 million. They could save an additional $1 million if he signs with another team in 2020.

Dallas’ will now turn to last year’s starter Xavier Woods, veteran Darian Thompson, and 2019’s six-round pick Donovan Wilson from this season. Reportedly, rookie corner Reggie Robinson should also see snaps on the safety position.

HaHa Clinton-Dix spent the majority of his career with Green Bay Packers, where he was a standout performer earning a Pro Bowl appearance in 2016. He spent time with Washington and Chicago Bears.

Clinton-Dix’s career stats include 522 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 33 passes defended, 16 interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
