The 2018 NFL season will be very special for the Green Bay Packers since it will be the franchise’s 100th season of competitive football. But, can the current Packers’ roster make it count this year? We think they can.

The most obvious reason, of course, is healthy Aaron Rodgers. After Rodgers suffered an injury in Week 6 of 2017 season, Packers failed to do anything significant with Brett Hundley and missed the playoff for the first time in nine years. The fact that he is fully fit again makes the world of difference, and having the best NFL quarterback on their roster makes Green Bay Packers an instant contender; even without paying attention to the rest of their roster.

Then there is hunger. Everyone on the Packers is hungry for success. Aaron Rodgers is looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued season. Wide receiver Davante Adams wants to prove he is worthy of his new big contract and that he can make big plays like departed Jordy Nelson. The rest of receiving core will look to prove Rodgers wrong after he criticized them for lack of effort on practices.

Green Bay Packers’ defense will be a contributing factor as well. They finished ranked 22nd in defense in NFL last season, while their cornerbacks were among the worst in the league. Packers had issues with the secondary for years, but it might be a thing of the past.

They drafted two talented cornerbacks in the first two rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft, while also signing former Arizona Cardinals’ CB Tramon Williams in free agency. Packers also used their third-round pick to get a linebacker, selecting Vanderbilt’s Oren Burks 88th overall.

Finally, former Jets’ defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson should also contribute this year.
On paper, everything looks set for Green Bay Packers to return to playoffs this year. Super Bowl appearance is also on the table since Aaron Rodgers “is a bad man.” Now imagine if Packers’ front office decides they could use few more championship rings and trade for Khalil Mack. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

There are several weeks before 2018 NFL season kicks off, so lots of things can change. But from this point of view, the Green Bay Packers can be a contender this year.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis has signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers. Lewis was released by the Jaguars on March 20, after spending 12 years with the team.  Both Packers and Lewis confirmed the deal on their social media.

Marcedes Lewis was selected with the 28th overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006 NFL Draft. During his time with the team, he earned a Pro Bowl selection and Second-team All-Pro honors in 2010. He is Jaguars’ all-time receptions leader among tight ends with 375 catches for 4,502 yards and 33 touchdowns. These numbers also rank Lewis third among Jaguars’ all-time leaders in receptions and receiving yards.

Lewis played in all 16 of Jaguars’ games in 2017 regular season, managing 24 receptions, 318 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns. Despite posting best numbers in the last four years, the team decided to move on from the 34-year-old, saving $3.5 million in salary.

Green Bay Packers will hope that Marcedes Lewis can add leadership and stability to their tight ends core which also has five times Pro Bowler Jimmy Graham and Emanuel Byrd. Packers decided they will not bring back 2017 offseason TE additions Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendrick.

The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t the only one trusting the process. Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers shares the same mindset when it comes to the moves his team is making.

There have been numerous reports that Rodgers is frustrated with the organization for lack of offseason moves, as well as the release of wide receiver Jordy Nelson and quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt. Even if that is the truth, Aaron Rodgers isn’t sharing that with the public. Speaking on Tuesday during the first day of the Packers’ offseason workouts, the 34-year-old was asked if he was frustrated about not having greater input on the recent moves the Packers made.

I know my role, and that’s to play quarterback the best that I can.” – said Rodgers. “The team is going to try to put the right guys in place — the right coaches in place, the right players in place. You just have to trust the process as we’ve talked about over the years. This process works, and it has worked for Mike [McCarthy] for a number of years. Obviously, that’s why he’s still here in his 13th season. We’ve had a lot of success here, and you’ve got to trust the process.

Sources around the league are reporting that Rodgers’ frustration is delaying his new contract with the Packers that seemed inevitable towards the end of 2017. He has two years left on his five-year, $110 million extension he signed in 2013 and which made him the highest paid NFL player at the time. Now he slipped to the ninth spot and will be looking to get back to the top with a new deal.

Like the last time, although it was large financial numbers, it was a deal that myself and the team was happy with,” – he said. “It gave us the ability to do some things and made my cap number never go above an unmanageable level. So, obviously, I want to finish my career here. I’ve said that a number of times and still have two years left on my deal, so we’ll see what happens this offseason.

The Green Bay Packers have agreed on a four-year contract extension with their wide receiver Davante Adams on Friday. The extension is reportedly worth $58 million. Adams will also get an $18 million signing bonus, and there is a $32 million payout option over two years included in the deal.

With $14.7 million per season, Adams will become the fourth highest paid wide receiver in the league. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Antonio Brown is on the top of the list with $17 million, followed by Houston Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins who is earning $16.2 million a year and Cincinnati Bengals A.J. Green with $15 million.

Tying up Adams on a long-term deal is a big move for the Green Bay Packers, especially since he became their number one option at the position in the last two seasons. Even the team’s quarterback, Aaron Rodgers previously said he hopes Adams will get a new deal.

He’s making a lot of money this year,” – said Rodgers. “Hopefully we pay him sooner rather than later. He’s a talented guy who has just proven it week after week. He’s tough to guard. It’s tough to guard him one-on-one.

Davante Adams emerged as one of the top wide receivers in NFL last year, when he had 997 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in the regular season, adding 217 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason. He continued to perform exceptionally in this season as well, with 885 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games. He was ruled for the rest of the season after suffering a concussion against the Carolina Panthers in Week 15.

With Adams getting his money, the Packers have to decide what to do with their two other receivers that get a lot of money, Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson. The word around the organization is that they could be asked to take a pay-cut or even released.
