According to multiple reports, veteran point guard Goran Dragic is joining the Brooklyn Nets. Dragic, who recently agreed to a contract buyout with the San Antonio Spurs, is expected to sign a deal for the rest of the 2021-22 season.

Dragic was a highly sought-after player recently, with multiple teams pushing for his signature, including the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the 35-year-old Slovenian picked the Nets, believing they give him the best chance to play a significant role on a contender. He will also reunite with Brooklyn’s head coach Steve Nash, who was his teammate with the Phoenix Suns.

While the Nets are yet to make the news official, Dragic’s agent Bill Duffy already confirmed the news to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Goran Dragic started 2021-22 with the Toronto Raptors, where he arrived in a sign-and-trade deal that sent Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat. Dragic played five games for the rebuilding Raptors early in the season but saw limited minutes and averaged just 8.0 points per game. He was later removed from the rotation altogether and practiced away from the team while waiting to get traded.

Toronto managed to trade Dragic to the Spurs ahead of the trade deadline, but San Antonio didn’t show any interest in keeping him on their roster. Instead, the two sides agreed to a buyout several days later.

Goran Dragic, who is best known for his time with the Suns and Miami Heat, has one NBA All-Star appearance on his resume while being named NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2014. His career stats include 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.

Slovenian point guard Goran Dragic, one of the most intriguing available free agents on his position this offseason, will run it back with Miami Heat.

Dragic, who played a big role in Heat’s trip to the NBA Finals last season, announced on Twitter that he agreed to a new deal with the franchise. Reportedly, the contract is at two-years and comes with $20 million in value.

“Happy to be back,” Dragic told the Associated Press of the deal. “That was my plan, to come back, but in this crazy business you never know.”

Goran Dragic is coming off an eventful 2019/20 campaign that saw him lose the Heat’s starting point guard job to third-year player Kendrick Nun during the regular season while also being the second-best scorer for the team in the playoffs.

After getting back his starting job to start the playoffs due to Nun’s conditioning, Dragic went on to produce his best postseason run in which he averaged 19.1 points per game while adding 4.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He could have arguably made an even bigger impact, but the left foot injury forced him to sit out most of the NBA Finals series against the L.A. Lakers.

Getting Dragic back represents a great piece of business for the Miami Heat, who’s confident they can embark on another deep playoff run in 2020/21. The Heat will have most of the NBA Finals roster back, with Myers Leonard also re-signing recently, while also having more than $10 million in cap space to add another impactful player down the line.
