The number of New York Yankees players on the Injured List seems to be growing by the day. The latest Yankee to land on it is slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who will miss at least 10 days while dealing with ankle inflammation.

The Yankees confirmed the news on social media while also announcing that righty Jonathan Loáisiga is dealing with a sore shoulder and is placed on a 15-day injured list. The New York team previously saw pitcher Chad Green and Luis Gil needing season-ending Tommy John surgery while the All-Star closer went down with Achilles tendinitis.

The loss of Stanton might be particularly hard for the Yankees considering the form in 2022. The former NL MVP has been one of their best players and had a big contribution to the team’s MLB-best 31-13 record. The 32-year-old player hit .285 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs this season.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team is optimistic that Stanton isn’t facing a prolonged absence.

“So just feel like this is something that’s going to be short and feel like we should knock it out and not mess with it, and maybe it becomes something else,” said Boone. “So hopefully he got out in front of it a little bit and hopefully it’s just 10 days.”

Giancarlo Stanton is no stranger to injuries, having landed on the Injured List in each of the past four seasons. This included a biceps strain in 2019 that limited him to just 18 games in the 2019 season and a strained hamstring that saw him make 23 appearances in shortened 2020 campaign.

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins in December 2017, has teased Yankees fans with massive home runs and some huge performances since joining the team.

Despite missing almost the entirety of 2019 with a biceps strain and a knee injury, Stanton was able to contribute a bit more to the Yankees’ success in 2020, including six home runs in the playoffs.

However, due to the uncertainty surrounding the market and his health, Stanton has decided not to exercise the opt-out clause in his massive contract which would have made him a free agent this winter.

The burly outfielder, who has 7 more years and $218 million left on his deal, decided that his current deal was better than anything else that he would have gotten on the free-agent market.

Stanton is owed $29 million in 2021 and 2022, $32 million from 2023 to 2025, $29 million in 2026, and $25 million in 2027. His contract then includes one more club option for 2028, which would pay him $25 million and includes a $10 million buyout.

Stanton, who will remain under his contract until he is at least 38 years old, will look to stay on the field and contribute big home runs for the perennial contenders under his massive contract.

New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton has run into injury problems yet again. The owner of baseball’s fourth-largest contract hit the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring after pulling up lame while running the bases on Saturday night in Tampa.

Stanton was off to a hot start this season, batting .293/.453/.585 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI through 14 games for the Yankees. However, his hot run will go on hold for at least ten days after it was determined that Stanton needs time for his injury to heal.

Since acquiring Stanton prior to the 2018 season, his health has gotten in the way of his productivity for the Bronx Bombers. While Stanton was able to play a full season in his first year in Pinstripes, the 2019 season was a different story.

Stanton missed all but 18 games in 2019 due to various injuries, including a biceps strain, a shoulder injury, and a knee injury. They were just three more in a long serious of injuries which have prevented the enormous slugger from realizing his full potential as a Major Leaguer, dating back to his days as a Miami Marlin.

The Yankees did not provide an immediate timetable for Stanton’s return, but they certainly hope that the outfielder will not miss many more than the ten required days.

The New York Yankees suffered a big scare on Saturday after starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka was struck in the head by a line drive in a live batting practice simulation at Yankee Stadium.

The right-handed pitcher was throwing to Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, who hit a line drive up the middle that hit Tanaka in the side of the head, knocking him down the ground for several minutes.

While Tanaka was able to eventually leave the field on his own two feet, he was admitted to a New York hospital for testing and put under observation for a possible concussion.

While the Yankees have yet to release the official diagnosis of Tanaka’s injury, he was released from the hospital on Saturday night and posted a message on Twitter stating that he was not seriously hurt.

Tanaka, who is expected to be one of the pillars of New York’s starting rotation this season, was at the Yankees’ stadium on Sunday though he did not participate in workouts.

The 31-year-old righty, who posted an 11-9 record along with a 4.45 ERA in the 2020 season, could be forced to miss the season’s Opening Day later this month depending on the evolution of his injury.

At any rate, both Yankees fans and baseball fans can at least take solace in the fact that the pitcher avoided a major injury.

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is recovering from his calf injury as planned. According to Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone, Stanton would be ready for spring training games if they were to start today.

Stanton was diagnosed with right calf strain last month and was initially doubtful for spring training. However, according to Boone, the All-Star slugger has been making encouraging progress in recent weeks.

“G is doing great,” said Boone in a recent interview with YES Network. “If we were to start spring training games up tomorrow, he’d probably be ready to go.”

Boone added that Stanton already got pretty close to being in the game shape: “He’s been doing really well, hitting now for a few weeks, but running pretty much at full speed outside and changing directions—doing pretty much all the things necessary to get into a game.”

Giancarlo Stanton wasn’t a contributor for Yankees last season, as he struggled with several injuries. He ended up playing only 18 games, in which he had .288 batting average with three homers and 13 RBIs. The year before, Stanton was hitting .266 with 38 home runs and 100 RBIs in his first season with Yankees.

Boone also provided updates on a number of other players, including the two-time All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge. After being ruled out for two weeks in early March due to stress fracture in his ribs, Judge is still weeks away from being in competitive form. The 27-year-old, however, is healing according to expectations and will be ready for the start of the season.

After refusing trades to St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants, outfielder Giancarlo Stanton waived his no-trade clause in favor of the New York Yankees. Miami Marlins traded Stanton to the Yankees in exchange for Dominican second baseman Starlin Castro and two minor leaguers, pitcher Jorge Guzman and infielder Jose Devers.

According to Stanton, his motivation for accepting the trade to the Yankees was the team’s young and balanced core.

They strike from everywhere, and they’re well balanced, and they’re hungry,“- Stanton said on Monday during his introductory news conference. “The city’s been waiting for another World Series and a playoff run, and they got close enough this year. But hopefully, with my addition, we’re going to advance and be a better team.

Marlins were trying to offload Stanton for some time now, in order to start with the rebuild that was announced after the team was taken over by a new ownership led which included former Yankee Derek Jeter. This proved to be a tough deal to make, since there weren’t many teams that were willing to take Stanton’s 13-year, $325 million contract which he signed in 2014. Besides this, Stanton wasn’t eager to accept the trade to just any team and had a shortlist that included Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

I had no feeling about trading him to the Yankees,“- said Jeter after the trade. “We wanted to get the best deal. Contrary to what people believe, we were not stuck with this deal. This was the best deal out of the three for us. My feeling was to try to make the Miami Marlins organization better, and that was the No. 1 priority.

With Stanton as part of their roster, Yankees are now among the favorites to collect the World Series next season. As for Marlins, their fans will have to watch some pretty bad games until things get better.
