New York Yankees decided to drop the struggling catcher Gary Sanchez from the starting lineup. The news was confirmed to reporters by Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who said that he’s hoping the move might be beneficial for the 27-year-old All-Star.

Sanchez is hitting abysmal .130 at-bats this season while having just seven home runs and 15 RBIs in 32 games. For comparison, he hit .232 with 77 RBIs and 34 homers in 104 games in 2019.

”I kind of deliberated on it a lot last night and just feel this is the way I need to go right now,” said Boone, explaining his decision. ”Hopefully, a day off or two or however I decide to do it here can help get him going.”

According to Boone, Sanchez believed he could overcome the bad form by staying on the field, but the Yankees’ manager didn’t want change his decision.

”Gary wants to play,” he added. “To his credit, behind the scenes, he’s working his tail off and wants to be in there. But in the end, I think this is the best thing right now.”

Boone is probably not only hoping to get the best out of Sanchez with the move but also to lift his team. Yankees opened the season with an impressive 16-6 record but then stumbled to current 21-19. They lost five out of the last six games and are set to meet Blue Jays while riding a three-game losing streak.

MLB didn’t take long to issue a discipline for incidents that happened in the game between Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees. It was a game full of fights, bench clearings, and ejections. Few smaller incidents culminated when first baseman Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers punched Yankees catcher Austin Romine in the sixth inning. The game ended up with a tally of 3 bench clearings and 8 ejections. The Tigers eventually took the game 10-6 in their favor. Check out all the discipline below, provided by MLB.com

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been handed the most severe punishment, receiving 7 games suspension for “inciting the first bench-clearing incident and fighting.” Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez received a 4 games suspension for “fighting, including throwing punches.” Pitcher Alex Wilson of the Tigers also got a 4 games suspension for “intentionally throwing a pitch at Todd Frazier of the Yankees while warnings were in place for both sides.” Yankees catcher Austin Romine, who found himself at the receiving end of Cabrera’s punch throwing spree, was handed a 2 games suspension for “fighting, including throwing punches.” Besides the players, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus also received a suspension. He got 1 game off for “the intentional actions of Wilson while warnings were in place.” All of them also received undisclosed fines in the process.

The fines were also handed to Yankees manager Joe Girardi, Yankees bench coach/acting manager Rob Thomson, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle and Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias for their involvement in the incidents. Yankees first baseman Garrett Cooper and outfielder Clint Frazier were fined for entering the field while being on the disabled list.

The suspensions and fines are effective immediately after their announcement, with players being allowed to appeal. In case that Wilson appeals on his suspension, Brad Ausmus’ suspension will begin the same day as Wilson’s.

If you didn’t catch an MLB game between Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees, you’ve missed a lot. Unfortunately, we are not talking about a spectacular game, but the things that surrounded the clash between these two teams. The fans were in for a series of brawls, punches exchange and ejections. Tigers’ pitcher Michael Fullmer first hit NY Yankees Gary Sanchez with a pitch, and then Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle tried to do the same to Miguel Cabrera from the Tigers in the sixth inning. Cabrera approached Yankees catcher Austin Romine and pushed him, before throwing a punch. This caused a huge brawl while benches cleared. Both Cabrera and Romine were ejected. You can check out the video of the two fighting below.

It didn’t stop there since there was obviously more bad blood between Tigers and Yankees. In the seventh inning, Dellin Betances of the Yankees hit Tigers James McCann with a 98 mph fastball in the head. This caused another bench clearing and resulted in the ejection of Betances and Yankees manager Rob Thompson. But wait, there was more. Eight inning saw Yankees Todd Frazier getting hit by pitcher Alex Wilson of the Tigers. Benches were cleared once again, and Wilson was ejected alongside manager of the Tigers, Brad Ausmus. This time there was no fighting, and everything settled with some pushes. The both teams are in for some suspensions and heavy fines. In case you still want to know the final score, the game ended with a 10-6 win in favor of the Tigers. The two teams will not play against each other again in this regular season.

This wasn’t the first time these two teams had beef between each other. Jason Beck, Tigers beat reporter on MLB.com, pointed out on his Twitter profile that the teams had issues in July when Kahnle hit Tigers Mikie Mahtook and Fulmer hit Yankees Jacoby Ellsbury.
